38000 Rivets and 2000 Dzus fasteners giveaway…
Here we go, Fritz Dezings gives (19000) now 38000 Rivets and 2000 Dzus fasteners away for the interested modeler.
The will be split up in a group of (10) 20. That means each shipments contains a sheet of 1900 rivets – 24 inch wide – and one strip of 100 Dzus fasteners.
I ask the recipients to post here their experience good or bad.
The process to simulate rivets with an soldering iron takes a long time and the results are so-so.
Flush rivets on full scale airplanes are not totally flush. There is still material on top of the aircraft skin. To simulate that, these vinyl rivets are a good choice.
How it works,
Pic 1, this a sheet of 1900 rivets and the 100 Dzus fasteners without the application tape.
Pic 2, primer applied on the surface – like you would do regularly.
Pic 3, Panel lines applied to chart tape.
Pic 4, cut your rivets from the sheet using a scissor or a exacto knife.
Pic 5, the adhesive of the vinyl and application tape is pressure activated. To part the vinyl nicely from the backing sheet run a credit card or a squeegee (I use a short ruler) over the strip.
Pic 6, the parting of the backing sheet and application tape with the rivets attached.
Pic 7, application tape down.
Pic 8, now you need to do the same like in Pic 5. You can use also your fingers.
Pic 9, pealing away the application tape. The application tape don’t leave any residue on the surface.
Pic 10, same method with the Dzus fasteners.
Pic 11, closer shot of that piece.
Pic 12, if you want double rivet lines just cut two rows – that simple. Good for left and right of panel lines.
Pic 13, done – time for primer. BTW: you can apply the rivets before the primer of after. This vinyl takes the paint directly and the paint will adhere without problems.
Pic 14, result after one coat of primer.
Pic 15 – 20, olive drab applied. These are shots from different angles and light conditions.
If you are interested to try these rivets out go herefritzdezings.com/index.html and email me. I need a name and address. No strings attached, all what I’m asking is to post your honest opinion about that method.
(I’m working right now on a flite metal solution)
Those look awsome and much better than messing around burning into primer with the old method you mentioned. I want to order some. How do you think they will look on my Monster Corsair as far as size?
Thanks,
Barry
Thanks and fill me in on the details by email,
Barry
The first 10 received yesterday the USPS shipping confirmation - these are on their way as of 4.30pm.
Now I have to cut more rivets for the increased number, this takes time - I will be able to ship the second round on Saturday morning. You will be notified by e-mail of the shipment, one of the reasons why I ask to send me an e-mail over the Fritz Dezings website.
As for scale, should work with the most airframes. The simulated vinyl is 0.065 (1/16th) inch in diameter and has a spacing of 0.315 inch
Sean here, we shared a few drinks at Monster Planes this year! Please send some along to Frank's shop and we will give them a try.
I will send you a PM with address.
Thanks!
