RE: Micko P-47: build
Not worried about it. I don't plan on adding too much extra stuff so it should stay pretty light.
If my inner door idea works it will be a very light weight solution, it now I am going to leave them off for now and worry about them later.
Should have the wing all done by this weekend and start on the fuze.
I am going to try and fill the wing tips with expansion foam and use two dowels to mount them onto the wings. This will keep the weght down and make a perfect fit.

Here's a look at the rudder before I glue them together. They fit perfect! I am waiting to glue them up as I am installing a nav light system in the rudder and wing tips. I also got a gear sequencer to try to get the inner gear doors to work in time with the mains. Should be great!

Here's the motor mount. Jeff did a great job on this mount. Solidly built and the right distance for my motor to fit without adding any spacers

The cowl is mounted solid too and uses four nylon bolts to hold it on. Easy to install and remove and will not rattle loose.

RE: Micko P-47: build
I got some good ideas from RAM3500s thread on building "Zombie". Picked up a gear door sequencer so I can us a better setup than what I have now. I don't like all the exposed springs and wire on the mechanical setup I came up with. It works find, but looks horrible.
I have a nice three day weekend coming up and the family is out of town so I should get lots of work done on the plane if they dogs leave me alone
I may have to fly one day though if the weather improves. Raining like crazy today!

Got the gear doors working great! I am using a gear sequencer that can be setup for P-47 or P-51 type door sequencing. Took some work, but they work great and with minimal part visible

The model is a 1/6 scale P-47 with an 80" wingspan. Same size and specs as the Yellow P-47.
Next up - installing the retractable tail wheel

Got the cockpit mocked up and ready to do the final installation. Still have some detail work to do, but it looks like it fit well. I used a 1/5 scale kit I had laying around and it looks fine.
Also here's and interior shot of the wheel bays. I just need to add a couple hydraulic lines and it's done.

I doubt he is going to fly from CA to show us Kirk...But Micko is bringing his Hellcat right? I plan on bringing my P-40 composite kit.
Jeff you are doing an awesome job getting your Micko P-47 RTF.

Jeff,
Sounds like you guys have a great club out there. We have so many nice days we don't get much time to meet and show stuff off unless it's at the field. Lots of new stuff shows up on the flight line first
Made some more progress on the plane. Here's a better shot of the cockpit:

RE: Micko P-47: build
Did a test fit of the tail wheel setup and still have some work to do, but it looks nice.
The mounting areas is slightly radiused so I need to make formers to get it to fit right. If it was flat I would be done
Looks like it will work great!
I need to run the air lines, rudder and elevator controls too to make sure they fit right before I glue it all in place.

Yeah, Jeff...what we lack up here in nice weather we make up for with camaraderie.....
Seriously, a better bunch of scale modelers you couldn't ask for.
Things are looking good, keep the pics coming!

Got the wing light lenses in stalled. Had to make a form and mold them in the oven. I have them installed and working on the wing now too.

RE: Micko P-47: build
Used the cutout piece from the wing tip to make the mold with too. It worked great and the fit in nice.
The lights are pretty bright and I think should be visible from the air in daylight too. It will be cool to have them on in-flight. I will be putting then on a switch so I can turn them on / off from the transmitter.

Excellent there Jeffrey! Nice looking wing tip lights! I did the same thing when I made the lenses for my Hellcat. It's the little stuff that makes all the difference.

The lights are so bright
Installing bomb drops next and then with wing is finished. Still having issues with the inner gear doors. I have to go with a larger servo as my little 322 is just too wimpy. Still, seems to work fine. Just need to tweek it some more and it should be fine.
Time to get the alerons and other control surfaces installed and then bolt on the engine and balance. Then remove everything and pain
Getting closer

Ok, made some major progress on the build. I have the plane pretty much ready to paint. Here are some progress photos:
