Everything is an alumilite product... But I think I tried some other resin in there? also, I did mix it in a sort of sugarfree coolaid mix cup :P I thought I had washed it out good though?
Its a new issue I hadn't seen before..

Michael; Am anxious to see your vinyl lettering for your wingtips and such when you get them done, Warbird Man is also interested I think. Here are a coupl of pics I took yesterday in the back yard.

Ok great. I'll make up the wing lettering and try it on mine and offer a set to all you wants them. We all may not want them if they don't come out well. :-)

I am CD of the Petaluma Canvas Falcon dawn patrol ( actually a scale flying fun competition)...I will be bringing my 1/4 Fleet but will not be competing so I can run the show.
It would be fabulous if you and M-Radu could be ready by then...or bring what ever you have vintage to fly, there will be some excellent quality modells on hand...
My SE5 will be ready next year...endless details

You will be reguired to fly 8 figures of your choice that the real aircraft could negotiate in a very scale like manner...these can be very easy manouvers also...Starting , Landing, figure 8's , descending circles, straight flight, loops etc.. More complicated manouvers being Rolls, 1/2 Cuban eights, Stall turns etc. if you so choose...but not required. Recommend reading AMA scale flight manouver descriptions to give an idea what the judges will be looking for.
Much value will be placed in how smoothly you fly your aircraft in all figures, and how well you control the engine revs., flying at scale like speeds.
So this competition is open to anything that can fly up to 1939...you will simply be judged on what that aircraft was capable of doing.
An Auto Giyro would be a big hit...definitely bring it !!!

Sounds great! Though scale contests are nerve racking they are very rewarding in the end. Michael and I are both used to doing what you require. We have competed in Scale Masters Qualifiers and this sounds much the same. Will send you an email. Thanks,
Now all we have to do is get these d,vii's done....

As Warks62 said it “we just need to get these D.VII’S done.â€
So I’m now starting to complete the engine area.
Photos # 1 - 3
Here I’m testing how I’m going to complete the fake exhaust system. I’m using copper piping and the extra weight is good. Wark62 and I again tried the balance and it very close. I still might need a little more nose weight.
Photos # 4 - 7
I sprayed lacquer to fill in the balsa wood and sanded and sprayed and sanded more. I then used black sand-able primer to check for any areas that I missed. There were more areas to work on.

I just gave my batteries a one or two pass over with some black paint just to hide them better.

Now it’s time to finish the top deck. This area just in front of the cockpit is colored olive green. So I mixed up some Klass Koat paint and extra flat powder and after masking painted away.
I used my small airbrush as I want to get an uneven look. I tried to make it look a little sloppy. I plan on doing some weathering to the entire plane later.

Shows the painting of the olive green.

These images show the side panels in black primer only. Final coat soon. Check out the brass nuts with handles that Warks62 made me! Thanks Warks62! Just need several more to complete the rest!
I like the look of the handles so much I don’t know if I should paint them. Should I paint them and if so what color? Maybe “Gun Metal
Next I’ll need to do the cockpit leather trim.

RE: Fokker D.VII 1/4 Balsa USA
Well now here is a bummer. On one of my show and tell visit (as my friends told me) don’t take an unfinished plane out to show and tell as it will get hanger rash!
Well it happen again! My tail end got broken while removing the plane out of the trailer!
The horizontal stabilizer got pushed and one of the balsa wood frame cracked! Thank goodness it was only one.
I simply had to peal back some of the fabric and re - CA the joint and re - iron the fabric.
So now with that I went on to make the under side bracing for the tail.
Photos # 1 - 3
Here I took a piece of streamline aluminum and marked it at the distance and angle of the bottom of the fuselage. Using a vise I crushed it at that line. Still in the vise I then bent it at the angle I thought was correct. Minor adjustments will be required.
On the end for the horz. stab. I marked the distance and cut it long.
Photo # 4
This image shows that I have shaped and drilled a hole at one end of the strut.
Also note I have not ironed the fabric for the broken yet now repaired stabilizer.
In addition I have taped a triangle in order to make sure the stabilizer is 90.
Photos # 5 - 11
These images show that I have drilled holes through both ends of the stabilizer and one hole in the fuselage. This one into the fuselage I glued using epoxy a 2-56 threaded rod. This way after slipping on the tail struts I can use a 2-56 lock nut to hold them on.

I have some parts in the mail for you ...Micheal.
It will take some work to make them perfect..but it should get you closer...I threw in a wooden dowel that runs down through the head part..I would try to find a piece of plastic tube the same size and use it instead.

Wow, FoodStick
Thank you very much. You are too kind. I can't wait to see what you sent! If it's even close to the pilots you sent me it will be great!

I am afraid to admit it..but I have been doing almost zero flying this year..
I have really only flown a foamie out at my moms farm this year... Since my Dad passed away a couple years ago.. I just haven't been in the mood to fly the bigger stuff ... I keep tinkering with my airplanes, but my heart just hasn't been in flying as much. I never quit enjoying airplanes, but I have been known to slow way WAY down sometimes on the flying end of things.
heck JeffEE if you are at the Owatonna warbird flyin we have probably met
I have gone up the last three years on Saturdays. I just go to watch, too much going on in the air to make me comfortable flying ! A bunch of my friends go up with B17's and multi engine planes.. Last year a good friends Black A-26 went in the cornfield on the west end..

Last year I was not there because my DVII was mid-aired weeks before the event. 2009 I was there and flew after the big thunder storm passed thru. 2008 I was going to fly my first DVII but my helper steped on my tail and broke it pretty bad. 2007 I lost my Yellow Aircraft P-40 in the corn, total loss. I have not had a very good track record there, but its such a nice event, and the food is worth the trip. I am going to keep trying.
