Doing good MRadu, we have had some great fun and stories to remember at the field this year
My D7 is still airworthy, and I built a Balsa USA 1/4 N11 "electrified" so I could get good steady HD footage of the other big WW1 fighters in the club

Hi Michael, I notice on picture #4 with the new engine that you have a bit of down trim on the elevator.How much down trim do you have on your motor? If i remember you added 3 deg. on the stabilizer.
It sure is a beautiful aircraft in the air with smoke billowing.

Hello Gungadin,

You are correct I did sale this Fokker D.VII to a friend. After many dead sticks and repairs the last dead stick I landed well and rolled into a ditch that looked all OK. However, once I approached the planes top and bottom wing spars had snapped!

I then sold the plane to a good friend "AS IS"

He keeped it of long time and did nothing. He then asked me to assist me in the repairs. He wanted to simply repair the wings and patch up the covering! I could not do this. So I bought it back from him at the same price I sold it to him.

I removed the Satio G-38 and sold it for $200.00 Ouch! I paid $750.00

I then have a long story about the engine however, to keep it short I placed a DLA yes A not E 58 Way to much power but runs great!

Thank you much for your reply. Man, that is a shame that you had such trouble with the engine ! Dead sticks will get ya, sooner or later. Your DVII is wonderful. Hope the new engine stays running for you. I saw one years ago at the Joe Nall that had a DA50 in it and it flew wonderful. The pilot hardly ever used full throttle to keep it scale like, so it flew very realisticly. After hearing about your troubles with the Saito G38, I won't be running out to buy one that's for sure ! Hope you have many good flights to come with it and the new engine.

Here is a photo of how tight the fit is with my DLA 58 inside. The spark plug and cap are on top and fit inside the fake cylinder heads. There is some vibration and is looks like it is getting better each time I run it.



As Vertical Grimace stated this plane likes a large prop. I have to agree. Also it looks great almost scale.

Vertical if your still watching I have some questions about the landing gear.

As soon as the wings are covered and doped it will be time to weather her up.
i also used a DLE55 with a 23-10 prop for starters.
It was all set up for a NGH38 four stroke but from what im reading it is marginal for this aircraft. Always easier to thottle back with power to get out of trouble.
I am also making a fibreglass mould to layup the louvered side panels. We will see how that turns out. I am surprised no one has done it sooner as this is a popular aircraft.
Right now i am in fixing mode to keep flying for the summer.

You are correct in NOT going with the NGH 38. It will fly the airplane, but it is at wide open all the time. There are other planes that the NGH is better suited for. The side panels on most aircraft were changed in the field ( as I understand the reports I have read) so It would be hard to come up with a "one set fits all" pattern. But hey...what do I know? If you make a set for yourself, you may have lots of people asking for a set. Nice looking kite by the way!

Well after flying my DVII for a few years, I could not stand the look of the motor any more. It was a "nice" motor that did not take long to build. And I have received many nice compliments about it. But it just never looked correct. So I took a deep breath and RIPPED it out. The new motor has much of the old one left in it. But I think its a bit closer to what I wanted. It still is not perfect, but I am much happier with it than the old one. I guess you never finish a scale model.

Very nice Jeff! I especially like the manifold wrap. I bet she flys at least 10mph faster with that new engine!

Jeff, be careful of getting carried away with dummy engines. A few months back I finished a GTM D.VII with an upgraded engine as it was very much exposed on the example I was building.

Mainly drawn in 3D using SLS Nylon and a home 3D printer for the exhaust. 3 months of my life went into this one!!

Mr Jolly, VERY nice. I guess I will have to get a 3D printer and start all over. Or maybe I will just kept that option for a Glen T. 1/3 scale kit. If I can track one down.

That scale engine is fanstastic. Was that a 1/4 or 1/3 scale?
Also due to the time spent in making the 3D printed parts are willing to print the parts for me?

I have a 1/3 GTM Fokker D.VII with all the goodies. And I mean all the goodies. For example I have a G62 with gear reduction, two props, lozenge fabric, scale wheels and scale guns. Even a pilot.

I may sale it just not cheaply.

Also the GTM Fokker D.VII is all framed up. I can send photos if you want.

This is the engine that Proctor sells. Takes some work but ends up looking pretty good for 1/4 scale.

MRadu....Interested? Of course I am interested. But as with most of us. I have Champagne tastes and a beer budget. I would love to get my hands on a DVII 1/3 scale from GTM. But getting it here to Minnesota would be a huge challenge. I have talked with you on a few of your builds, your work is excellent and would be fun to take over and finish. I have a KCS 62 cc motor, but there is no way to gear it down. I guess I could always sell off all of my stuff to get your DVII. Or maybe sell my oldest kid, his mother would be OK with that I think. And as to the Proctor motor...I think all of the items Lou Proctor sells are First Class. But the motor sells for about $125 I think. I used broken drum sticks, scrap wire and busted clevises to make mine, Cost was about 5 bucks. Again Champagne taste/beer budget. Do I wish I could have dropped a Proctor motor in? Heck yea!!!

Been away for the weekend so apologies for not replying.

Michael, it is the 1/3 scale kit. 1/4 scale would be less reliable, but I do know someone is making a very detailed cast resin kit for a 1/4 scale engine. I will dig the details out if you need them.

Jeff. Home 3D printers are only good for the parts that can be sanded and primed. Fine detail will be less reliable than out of house sintered powder so choose your home machine carefully. Avoid the SLA (laser cured resin systems) as parts tend to go brittle after a time and vibration will shake them to pieces (don't ask me how I know!). Although I do know some manufacturers are developing newer materials all the time so hopefully that will be resolved some time soon.

Well, I have made my last addition in the area of scale Do-Dads. I added the "flap" that closes under the bottom wing to seal the fuselage. I think that is all the time I am going to spend on this plane. Other builds to attend to. OH.... and I added the rear view mirror. Gotta be able to check six! Oh... and I added the bump at the back and bottom of the motor. Crap, at this rate I will never be done!

Sorry it's taken a week or so to reply. The engine is a self build and I only used the aluminium tube from the GTM kit and the springs for the valves. The cylinders are cast, and the rest is SLS printed in nylon. Domestic printers are no use for this type of detail so close to heat from the real engine. The Exhaust is printed on a Ultimaker and the only part produced at home.

I am happy to get the parts printed for you at cost and sent over to you. But be warned SLS print is not cheap. Send me a message and I will gather details over the coming weeks.

Mike Congrats on the win at the 2016 Masters in Advanced class Running through some of the ScaleMasters posts and not finding the info on your D7 wondered if you flew the BUSA build or GTM`s plane? Building BUSA`s 1/4 scale now and changing some of the outline to my documented 5 views your input on which one helps knowing Glenn`s is very accurate Thanks.
