    Hobby People had this thing on sale for $299. I couldn't resist and my finger clicked "Order". I'm planning on installing a DLE 30 and Spring Air retracts with Wheels as large as possible for our grass flying field. I will give up a little scale accuracy to have a good flying airplane. I had a warbird, Top Flite kit built P-40 which was very scale and heavy which flew like crap. It was so much work to fly that it was just not fun. After 120 flights without a crash, I don't know how, I decommissioned the plane and put the hardware else where.

    The $299 price is what attracted me also. I liked it when it first came out, but wasn't going to pay $499 for it. It is a nice semi-scale plane for the sale price, I think you will be quite happy with it. I'm not sure how good the included retracts are, but you stated you are putting in Spring Airs anyhow.
    Do it right the first time, or not at all!

    I have one of these planes powered w a dle 20cc and it flies perfect with that. I like the plane but it is cheaply made, the retracts are starting to get real wobbly after about ten flights, no hard landings. I have had ram planes and the quality of them is much better than bh, and so is the price. I would rather have the esm over the bh.

    Yes there should be. I just havent painted them on yet. Should be a white and black dual stripe.

    Which Robarts did you use? I have tried the eflite retracts with the original struts but no joy!

    Ill have to check, bought them from someone at the club. I used the stock struts w the Robarts retracts, testing tommorow and ill report how it goes. So far they are much sturdier w no slop, and were real easy to install. I just had to cut a very little wood in the retract mount and they dropped in.

    Guys, I find the CG as described in the manual, a little tail heavy. The plane tends to want to bounce on landing and porpoise in the air. Does any one else feel this way? As I have moved the CG forward, the plane handles better and settles in more nicely on landing. I would appreciate any thoughts with folks who have many flights on this airframe. Most comments on this thread seem to say that the CG is right where the manual says.
    I am running a Saito FG-30 gas on this model and the combo is fantastic - great sound, power, and looks!

    First thing is to do the math. Won't be the first time the numbers are off. In the case of this model the numbers are correct. I set mine at 27%. If your using the supplied landing gear assembly replace it with an aftermarket. I installed a set of modified "Robart" oleo struts and you should also replace the tires with "Robart" low bounce units. Last but not least land on the mains for wheel landings. This plane flies and looks great.

    Landing gear is the original struts used with eflite 120 size retracts. One side is a bit problematic and I need to make some adjustments - one retract just doesn't lock up well and binds a bit.

    Some trimming going on in the early part of the flight! A little down elev, right rudder, and some aileron trim as well.

    Flight time was about 7 minutes but I still had fuel to go for another 10+ minutes!

    My friends got to fly the plane as well so you have at least three different people at the sticks!

    Great video. I just got mine in from Hobby People. Planning on using a DLE 30 which I already have and 85 degree Spring Air retracts which I already have. I think I will be able to use the kit struts. I agree the stock retracts don't look like they will hold up very well, especially on our grass runway. It looks like 4" wheels will fit so I will try to use them as I already have a pair.

    Ive just about got this thing ready to go. Used a DLE30 as that is what I had. I had to move the cowl 1/2 inch forward to have enough room. I want to use a three blade prop. Found a 17-8 three blade but can't find the correct shaped spinner in 3.25" diameter in uncut or three blade. I used Spring Air retracts with the stock struts. 4" wheels. CG is 135mm back instead of 140mm as in instruction. Control throws set as per instructions. Total dry weight 12.4 lbs. which should be ok. I have a KMP Hurricane this size at 13.1 lbs and a CMP Zero 71" wing span at 15.9 lbs and they fly ok. Also have 74 degree trunions ordered from Spring Air to convert gear to look more scale but they are not in yet. I'm also going to block part of the cowl intake. Flaps 15 degrees 1/2 and 35 degrees full.

    Any advice before the test flight regarding this plane?

    Looks great.

    My CG is at 135. My flaps also are set up like yours. I blocked the air intake as well to better streamline the airflow.

    DLE 30 should be plenty of power! Good luck on your maiden!

    Had the maiden flight today. A bit windy with off and on shifting cross wind. Took off ok, only about 25 ft at half throttle at most. It needed right ailron trim and down trim. Seemed very touchy in pitch. Retracted gear with little trim change. Flew around to trim some more. Put gear down and half flaps, maybe a little pitch up. Slowed down and had a good landing a quite a slow speed. I'm going to reduced the elevator control throws and add more negative expo. Not sure if I want to move the cg further forward or not yet. I never got over half throttle as it was twitcyh enough at slower speeds. Its a worst cross wind forcast for tomorrow so maybe later this week. I think this plane will fly fine, just needs a little tweiking. The DLE 30 is plenty of power. Turning a 18-8 two blade prop at 8,300 rpm.

    Is the plane tunring or rolling to the left. If it is rolling then you have either a horizontal empanage misalignment or wing alignment. The wing and stabilizer must be aligned to oneanother. I just purchased a H9 Taylorcraft ARF and the fuselage was built with the mounting platform of the tail group incorrectly. I ended up shimming the left side to level the horizontal stabilizer. Not saying it is in the empanage it could also be in the wing saddle. The wing and stab must be aligned to oneanother. If it turns to the left I would check the vertical stabilizer for alignment. I addressed the CG issue and that is a matter of choice but I initially always start at 27%. The plane should not be pitch sensitive unless you have deviated from the factory setting by increasing the elevator throw. I fly mine with no expodential with the CG at 27%. There is a UTube posting of this plane powered by the same engine you are using and it ended up crashing due to an aft CG. I had the left airleron servo tray break free from its' mount just after take off and had no problem bringing it back safley using rudder only. This told me that it is a very stable airframe and would bring the pilot home safley. Check out my post on this site for my review of its' maiden.

    I found elevators not quite even. I adjusted. Also reduced control throws and added negative expose. Plane flew great. Did all the war bird manuvors, no problems. Plane was stable at full throttle and slowed nicely for landing. I put in 2 per cent up elevators with gear down and 5 per cent down elevators with flaps down. Seems to be about right. Still needs some right trim but not as much. No tendencey to snap out of tight turns or pull ups. No trying to roll right with throttle reduced. No more mixes needed. Lands nice for a warbird. Take offs are easy, only a little right rudder needed. I angled the gear forward with 1/8 inch ply on rear gear flange. Taxis ok on grass and no nosing over on take off. The DLE 30 is plenty of power, but not grossly over powered. This plane is a keeper.

    I want to do something about the shiny finish. Some folks say use Scotch Brite on it. Also I want to put the nazi swastika on the vertical fin. I'm sure this was left off intentionally because it is illegal in Germany where some off these are imported. The some light weathering, exhaust stains and gun smoke smoke streaks etc.

    Appears you have it dialed in. I also added the swastika for added realism. Have you considered adding a cockpit interior. I installed a Ty manufactured one and it takes if further torward the realism factor.
