Evil Thanks for posting the pic of the Bf109E. Like to see more if you have them. The first R/C plane I purchased was the BT Bf109E4 back in 1978 as a plan pac. Didn't build it right away because at that time I was only learning on a Sig Kadet. It took me 8 years to get the nerve up and have what I deemed enough flying experience to build and fly it. What a sweet plane. It wasjust a monokote monger with a head and shoulder bust, no cockpit. When I first took it to the flying field one of the old timers told me, "you can't fly a 109 here because they are too dangerous with the narrow undercharage, Club Rules." Needles to say, he got my immediate attention. I looked over at what he was flying and it was a J-3 Cub. So I told him that based on what he said he was also gorunded for the same rule, narrow undercharage. It got a big laugh and he confessed he was only pulling my leg. Building one now (slow progress) 81" BT Bf109E7. E7 because ot the spinner.

Nope, I wasn't talking you you. I was replying to vallawyer who said the Bf 109 image I posted doesn't look anything like a Bf 109.

It even says I replied to him...

My bad.
I am glad to see this thread because I have wanted to get a good "realistic" WWII sim.
Cliffs of Dover looks pretty good.

IL-2 was good, but had its issues with the flight models.

Damage models could be decent on better modeled aircraft, and downright horrible on others.

What made IL-2 so good is the user community which does LOTS of historically accurate skins, and the fact that some got so good at it that Maddox Games basically handed off future patching and upgrades to the guys that made a free add-on for IL-2 serveral years ago. They keep adding more models, some of which are HIGHLY detailed not to mention unusual. Like the Slovakian stuff added in 4.09.

Hey Evil, I got Version 4.10.1M. its awesome, and as you said, made by community members.
anyways love those pics.. can hardly wait for Dover. as for skins.. yep, you can't beat IL2 members
contributuions.

@ casey,

with the mods for IL2, the flight dynamics get much much better ie: way more realistic. dare I
say, almost the same as flying the real thing(?). In the pic below, I flew threw some debris
& fireball from an exploding B-17.. had to make a belly landing. throttle control got me down..
I never bail out lol!!!

If you are going to do a WW 2 flight sim, go all out and get fully immersed, Track IR, controls with pedals, join a squadron that uses Teamspeak it's a riot! I even got my Yellow Aircraft P 47 skinned into the game " Little Chief"

That should be fun considering I have my gaming computer attached to my 52" Samsung.

I have a great HOTAS set up (the Logitech G940) and two monitors, one big one and a smaller one for the cockpit, as well as trackIR.

I do need to get a bigger main moinitor and a good chair.

I've been watching Ebay for years looking for a decent, early ejection seat to convert into a gaming chair.

Cliffs of Dover looks awesome, but I can't believe that they didn't extend the timeframe into 1941 to include some early FockeWulfs and Mustangs, and the Spit 5. I hope the add-on comes quickly thereafter. Also, Battle of the Atlantic would be an interesting theater for bomber buffs.

I just got a new computer, and use a 47" LCD for my monitor. If you go this route, be careful which HDTV you choose as input lag can be an issue with newer TVs. Generallys, you want a 60 Hz SuperIPS panel. The 120 Hz TVs add input delay via the signal post-processing. I bought an LG LD450 series, and I love it for flight sims. The only catch with this setup is getting my track-IR positioned correctly. Trying to work up some sort of tripod approach.

The pics from Cliffs of Dover is very impressive. Very.

But, alas, I think I must resist spending any more hours of my life on games.

Every hour spendt on that will subtract hours from building and flying. Cannot have that.

Thats because they wanted to focus on one small time frame to do things the right way, in incredible detail... and save stuff for $$$ add-on packs and updates.

Kinda like what Rise of Flight does with its birds. You get 5 or 6 out of the box, but if you want the other 12 or so, you gotta pay for them.

The title "1946" refers to the secret aircraft designs that didnt fly and the first generation of operational jets included in the game not a historical ref. at all. More of a suggestion of what came next after the war ended than anything else.
Ive played this game for about 10 years and had a blast playing online. These skins are great for historically accurate paint schemes you can look to for your projects. The guys that spend the time to make them do the research and take pride in that fact and provide the data as well, pilots name, unit, dates, etc. Cool stuff and a wealth of info especially when your stuck trying to pick "something different" to paint on your warbird.

The new BoB game looks awesome cant wait to play that, you better have a rockin machine to play that I bet.

Another great sim if you like WWI is Rise of Flight. Tons of historically accurate paint schemes to look at. Just buy it for that library of info. There is more info in this game than you can find in ten books.

Great resources and Ive talked about this on RCU forums before so I'm glad its catching on more and more.

For you guys that play if you ever want to meet up and fly combat send me a PM or lets organize a small squad to mess around with. It gets pretty intense!

And a newer one showing some WWI action, remember there are no AI planes in this game. Every one is controlled by someone flying it.

As you can see the graphics have been improved
