RE: CARF-Models P-47 Thunderbolt
Hi Jack,
You can actually mix sand with your paint (very small grit) and it will come out as non skid. Try it on a test piece of material and see what you think. You can't use an airbrush, but a large paint gun can handle it.

Looking good Jack! that will look awesome in the air
I'm wondering how your surface detail is looking with paint applied ? do the rivets show through, or has the paint covered them up ? I'm concerned with losing a lot of the finder detail with how shallow it is ...

Have to say that looks awesome you have done an exelent job on that, have to say I have chosen the same sceam,Looks like your decals came from the same place,I have been doing all my scale details such as sliding canopy/cowl flaps/ landing lights, also slide out for the rx and air gear plus axeces doors has turned out to be a slow job but very satestfing,
well worth the effort,Read in MOKI maintainance, To bend the tube they use sand and sutch ,But an old mate of mine down here used lead,Yes lead bends a real tight radius when done you just melt the lead out works well .

regarding the nonskid. 3M makes a spray on product that looks pretty good. The last I used was from one of the big home improvement stores.
I have also seen guys that lay a heavy coat of paint, sprinkle salt in the wet paint, then spray one more coat on top to dull the sharp apperance of the crystals.

RE: CARF-Models P-47 Thunderbolt
I just arrived to the island of Aruba with the family ... they wanted a break from the smell of paint, I guess.
As soon as I arrived to the hotel, the first thing I did was to go to the beach and grab a bag of fine sand !!!!! to do the nonskid.
This r/c fever is incurable !!!
Wojtek: I did not paint color over color (stars and bars were the only exception), and I paint light (grey, green, black and white colors cover very good). The surface details ware not affected at all. In fact, I can see now some rivets and stuff that I didn't realize when silver. So, don't worry about it. Just paint light. I guess the secret is not to try to paint in one single coat. I do a light dust coat first and about 10 minutes later a final coat. BTW, I am very satisfied with the Dynamic Balsa cockpit kit. I did some framing to the fuse to hold the sides and the floor. I can post some pics next week when I get back, if somebody is interested
JeffH, I will try the salt if my Aruba sand doesn't work ....LOL. I heard of salt before to do the paint chips at the leading edges. Thanks for the advise
John: glad you liked it. I really like that scheme. I researched some details and info with the people at Duxford in charge of the restoration of the SNAFU. They were extremely helpful. (They are expecting a picture of mine to post on their web page..... what a challenge that is imposing on my job.... I can't get it wrong.... .
I bent the Moki tube by hand with no problem. Now I don't know if shouldn't have[]
Out to dinner now

RE: CARF-Models P-47 Thunderbolt
To all CARF P-47 owners,
I am looking to get Revoc wing and tail bags made for my P-47. Would one of you consider filling out this wing / tall bag form?
Ihave Revoc wing/tails bags for several of my planes and they are great. Once the form filled out, it would be good to have it verified. I have the numbers verified for all the first time bags to make sure they are good for any future purchaser of Revoc since these measurements will end up being the master.
http://www.revoc.eu/
I have attached a PDF of the form.
Thanks,
John

Well I can see that they gave you some pretty good advice,Had gone through my mind to contact them and can now see why would like some shots of her,Tell my jack if you don,t mind,The green is that close to the colour of SNAFU in the shot in front of the hanger,Some say it needs a bit more brown But I like it the way it looks a bit greener.

More progress.... and still lots to do.
Dento, the green is "RAF Dark Green". The computer screen doesn't reproduce the color accurately. In addition, different angles of the full size show variations of the color.
There are good pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dwhitwo...th/5832429554/

RE: CARF-Models P-47 Thunderbolt
Nonskid: tried different methods. The best one is black paint with Microballoons . Can be applied with air brush.
Great results.
Attached is a test with more microballoons than needed, but shows results.

Hello Jack.
Could you explain us how do you have apply the weathering on the plane?
Do you have a pln for the location of the nomenclature? I have all the nomenclature but I don't know where to put it....
Thanks a lot for your answer.
Best regards.
Philippe

Hi Greg, your F-100 is just awesome. The burned Titanium technique couldn't have a more realistic look. Congrats.
I am enjoying the build of the P-47. Great kit, and combined with the Moki 250, is an state of the art toy
Regarding Top Gun, my territory is BVM JETS.
Will see you at Florida Jets?
Jack
