CARF-Models P-47 Thunderbolt

Finally got the tail doors to open "scale like" with cylinders... I am pleased with the results.. Installing pull pull cables on the servo for the rudder and the tail wheel was a PITA... but managed to get that done too.

I also will suggest that during your final assembly of the plane. You will want to Tack-Glue the L-bends of the hinge pins to the sides of the fuselage with a dab of silicone. they will vibrate out if you don't. Do the same on the doors for the main gear in the wing also.
You don't want them to fall out in flight.

Great job on the tail wheel doors Anurag! I'm doing a Meister P-47 and just completed the doors using air cylinders. I'm not getting them to open as much as you are. I'm going to do them over paying attention to the geometry you have used. Thanks!

[QUOTE=Greg Wright;11983643]Gary P,
I have already worked with Dan Galardo from Custom Pipes RC on a set of none scale tips for the CARF p-47. If you do a scale set with him that would be great.[/QUOTE
Dan showed me what he was doing with you. A good ulturnitve to the other options out there. Hopefully I can work with a 257 which has a different exit arrangement off the collector ring. I don't think that a totally scale look will work though. I fear the butterfly for the waste gate would be too restrictive. Personally, I'd rather see the exhaust coming out the correct location than to see an exact scale dummy waste gate with cheater holes in the cowl for the exhaust. How do you guys feel about that?

Gary,
This is why i chose to just have Dan do it this way because, i wasn't sure how the waste gate would work with the exhaust. I do have this hooked up to come out of this location. i just don't have a picture of it fully hooked up. I did use a piece of the heat resistant flex pipe that runs from the collector ring all the way back to these tips on both sides.

Yes the flex pipe works just fine. I flew the plane all last season with 2 pieces of the flex pipe that where about 14 inches long hooked up to the exhaust ring. I had Zero issues with it burning thru.
I know Dan sells the flex pipe. But if you want to order it at a little cheaper cost. McMaster Carr sells it in bulk. Usually order some to have incase i have an issue with it.

A note of caution when your doors are rigged like this, its very easy for your "holder" to kick the doors and break one off when he goes to stand in front of the stab. That was an irritating event...
