He, thats a good tip, Blake! I have a DL-50 on the shelf, and this DL-50 is running like a little monster-machine.

Will try the DL-50 carb now....

Update; YES, running now!

So, end of fault finding revealed;

1) Use new CM-6 spark plugs.

2) Replaced Carb. with a DL-50 Carb.

Puh !
Glad you got up and running. What you experienced is typical of some Chinese engine manufactures, I.E. faulty carbs, inferior spark plugs.

G'Day,

Foster's is an Australian Beer and it's sold here but we don't drink it, we drink VB in Queensland, and the Victorians, where VB and Fosters is brewed don't drink either they drink Melbourne Bitter because it is't VB or Fosters....lol... if you follow rugby league you drink XXXX (Four X) - We can't spell...

Other parts of the country drink Southock - A South Australian Beer with a subtle hint of salt water and leaves you feeling sick. Western Australian's - Sand Gropers drink Swan for some reason...

Personally I preferr Bud....

Hey Dave hows things, Whats the weight of the pilot set up.
By the way enjoyed your vid of the flight great videoing editing & also enjoyed the music.
Cheers Steff.
Hey Steff,

Thanks mate! long time since we crossed paths on the forums! I'll put Major krauer on the scales and let you know. i should have done that I'm expecting to be better than 1/2 the original weight. My other pilot figure that I have made a foam body came out at about 1/3 of the original weight but that didn't have the animatrontics.

Hey Kwik,
That's great news on the XYZ !!! I ran the engine once with the plugs that came with it, but replaced them with the RCxel Iridium CM-6's almost straight after that. My order of Amisol Sabre oil has come in and If I get a chance to fly this weekend I'll expend my stock of fuel so I can mix up a new batch. fingers crossed the weather play's nice for a change this summer.

Thanks

dave

Hey Tic what mix are you running that Saber? Just curious I always ran Saber at 80:1 but switched to Redline 50:1 oil and mix it at 40:1 No thats not a type error 40:1 is what Desert Aircraft recommends for their engines and if they say so...thats all I need so thats what I plan on running on my XYZ as well. Just FYI

Amisol guarantes engine lubrication at 100:1, and MLD USA in now not only recommending amisol at 100:1 for use in their engines, they even supply you with a small satchel of it to run the engines in with!!

I will try it out at 80:1 , 90:1 or there abouts to see how it goes. no point buying high quality oil that is recommended for lower oil:fuel ratios and then mixing it like cheaper oil... I'm also going to mix it with 98 octane[8D]

I've almost finished installing the cockpit, but have come up against a road block in regards to the the placards in there.... pic's soon. I have been busy with customer work of late so I hope to get back onto my models soon.

Also, will post some pic's of some "must do" mods to the gear doors.

thanks

dave

Hehe ! Maybe as a Rolex with a Timex inside....

Folks, I made the XYZ 53 cc boxer run with the cylinders rotated 180 degrees.

Made a new video with the one above at the beginning, then at 02:00 minutes, with "rotated" cylinders;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83lbf...ature=youtu.be

When turning the cylinders 180 degrees, I think you must rotate the pistons too.

As you know, the piston rings are split in a certain point, otherwise you would'nt be able to slide them onto the piston.

This place, lets call it the ring opening (Sorry for my not-up-to-standard english), this ring opening must be positioned at a certain position. There is a small "hump" in the piston-ring "track" in the piston.

This is to avoid the piston ring to start rotating in there all by itself.

Why? To avoid the piston-ring opening to be situated over the exhaust port opening.

Imagine that part of the piston-ring moving up-down at 6000 rpm over the exhaust-port...would not be good in the long run...

So, when rotating the piston, together with the cylinder, all is well.

But beware , there is a needle-bearing for the cross-pin...so...you dont want the needles all over you when taking that out.....

Hey Guys,

Since there are probably more twin 53cc engines owners here than any other place I can find I thought I'd ask if there would be any advantage to a installing "Cross Pipe" between the two mufflers? I've heard other systems change in sound or smooth out by tying the two sides together.

I know NOTHING about exhaust on these motors and am curious. My goal would be to get a more mellow sound and less weed wacker like. Although I have to say from everything I've seen the 53cc sounds the least like a weed wacker of any 2 cycle motor I've heard.

Would there be any sound benefit to installing a connector?

Joe

Could someone who has the aileron and flap control rod installed give me a measurement of rod length?
From control horn to servo arm.
Thanks much,
Troy

Hi,
There is a 57cc Saito twin 4 stroke in the forum somewhere, it has a 2 into 1 into 2 for the exhaust and also a number of youtube uploads, quite a good sound, u
se the ESM / 50cc corsair or F4U with the saito tag and you will find it, oh he made the exhaust himself from copper plumbing pipes...

Hi Again,

Here's the link, there is a difference between the 4 and 2 stroke, obviously, but the balancer pipe will increase the volume of the muffler and if the design is correct then it will help with scavenging of the exhaust and help draw the new fule / air charge into the combustion chamber, how to design and build one for a 2 stroke and also get it to work at optimum RPM is the reason motorcycle race tech's get paid big $$$$ and boat racers spend big $$$ but the idea is worth looking into,

Those SD hobbies spinners do look good. How well balanced are they though? I would hate to have to try to balance one that is way out.

There CNC machined and as well balanced as my true turn spinner’s im committing myself in saying this I would say "BETTER" made. If you find its unbalanced ill be the first to bend over so you can shove it back to me lol (hopes he doesn’t get one in a million) Must say I bought one from YT for my smaller FW was shocked how it was made but it ran ok .So buy with confidence there the ideal match for the cowl as they allow air in ive run my 52 up with the spinner and clocked the outside just because im nosey was very impressed. On a lighter note Santa brought me a jet cat p80 se for another project that’s cooking in the back ground hope you guys had a good Christmas and hoping you have a safe new year cheers Frank
