N8622t, Those are nice graphics. I have a guy here in this area to do them. He's worked several planes before. I'll probably stay with him cause I can go back and forth to work out the minor details with him before we print the final decals. He uses dry rub ons. works out nicely.

File sent LBJ. I ended up with some slightly different measurements than what you provided but we can make any adjustments necessary. Anway, it's all explained in the email. Hellcat is looking great!

An automotive paint supply house will have the thin tapes in green for fairly low tack. You should be able to get them as thin as 1/16 inch. Chart tapes will be found at an artist's supply house. Some office supply houses will have them. Hobby shops also have some thin striping tapes. Usually quite a bit more expensive though.

A modeler friend told me to use white or gray primer over the dark blue parts. Not doing so will likely cause the orange to come out much darker than with a lighter primer. I was able to find a new product. Rustoleum has a White primer that is wet or dry sandable. Got the parts primed and will let dry all day or so. In this 100 degree heat, won't take long to have the solvents flash out and dry. Primer goes pretty quick anyway.

Capt G the rivets look great...I have to get my order in with Fritsderzings. How much rivet material do I need to order for the whole plane?

Two sheets will do it without the bottom of the wing. Check out post #368

Pete....Thank you very much.....I am working on WH Hellcat now.....I'm putting down thin tape and your rivets, covering with 2-3 light coats clear/matt...then I'm going to weather. I will most likely finish this plane and sell it. I also have a ready to cover that I am going to cover with solar tex and I hope to add a lot of detail using the things I've learned on the first one....again thanks and would love to hear any ideas....B7

Starting to get there! Lowe's did a good color match of the ST Orange. That's about 5 coats. Takes a while to build up. First few coats looked like baby do-do yellow. I thnk that's enough for today. I'll let it dry, knock off the rought spots and paint another coat.

It all depends on how many you want to put on. If you do all the lines as the full scale the whole plane will be covered with rivets! I did about 1/3 to 1/2 the lines and I ordered the 3800 pack of which I still have about 1/3 left. I may add a few more possibly.

Right now, I have almost everything I own as far as R/C tools in storage. Everything I need to mount the engine, servos, etc, are not here. I am doing the covering and paint with borrowed tools. haha. I am selling the house and there's not much I can do about that. Gotta keep it fairly cleaned up around here. So, nope, won't be finished and flying any time real soon, unless the house sells quickly. After the fuselage is done, I'm gonna get on the wings and get them covered. I'll put it all back in the big boxes and take it with me to an apt to work on later.
Jimmy, that look better? haha. I thnk I have enough paint on there. Looks good outside inthe bright light so took off the tape. I don't like to leave tape on things too long anyway.

Thanks, Jimmy. I was surprised the paint didn't bleed out onto the clear windscreens. Sometimes it will if you don't get the tape pressed down well. I added one S&B just to see how she looks. I like it. The decals are glossy so I'll have to dull coat them after panel lines are added. Lookin up.
I guess I coulda just posted one pic, but once I got started on the decals, I couldn't stop. hahaha. I'm done for tonite. Gonna work on repairing the Telemaster I wrecked at today's fun fly.

LBJ...Very nice....where did you get the decals? Well I've done most of the panel lines and rivets, and covered with about 3 light coats of clear matt.....I lightly sanded the cowl to take off the gloss..if I don't sell this one I'll do some weathering and staining to get that inservice look......the next one is the ARC....Thanks to all for the info on this thread...B7

B7, that loooks great! Lines and rivets came thru nice. I like the look. It'll be hard to part with that one. I'll tell ya, that's a lot less work than total covering.
A local guy here makes the decals - Fusion Graphics. He does rub ons that can be laid on with some Windex to get positioned then squeegied out. Chad V was gracious enough to send me some templates to use for the exact outline which really helped nail the look. He even sized them to what I determined was the right size (although I think I'm slightly oversize - about 10 percent large on the Star and Bar at least). I passed those onto Mike @ Fusion Graphics to do the final work. Two things I hate to be too small on - pilots and decals. I'd rather be too big than ANY small on either one. I hate to see a nice plane with a pigmy in the cockpit! hahaha. These decals are going to need some dull coat after I'm done with any panel lines etc. I still have LOTS to do to finish but work on it when I have the mood over me. Some days I just don't have it. haha.

A bity of Sunday morning progress. I kind of dreaded this part as it is rather difficult for me to get straight paint lines straight. Again, the stripes are not quite perfect, but pretty close. I measure off the 3 view and came up with 14 degrees off dead level. Not TOP GUN work, but Fun Scale work. I got one set of rub on numbers wrong on the opposite side, so will have to get another set and reapply them. No big deal, maybe $5. It's hard to get both sides perfectly matching, for me anyway. I guess for right now, it's on to covering the wings.
