Thanks CorsairJock, for the link

Had to do mine a little different. I made my cover out of light ply only, so I can keep it as close to flush as possible. I'm waiting on some covering material to match the bottom. Then I can attach to the strut and done.

Just gotta say: the OBVIOUS choice would be a Master Airscrew 3 blade 14 x 7. Works fine with Saito .91, I'm pretty sure it should be the prop of choice for an OS .95

Master Airscrew 14x7(3) clocked 113mph on one of my H9s the last warbird flyin. OS91

Spitfire, Hellcat, Corsair have all flown well with that combination. The TF 50 size Corsair however will get electrified...

I'm waiting on spring as well.
In the meantime I'm going to replace the Robart gear with E-flite elect gear. After a buddy of mine bought the H-9 50 Corsair with Elect gear I have to change over. The Robarts just don't seem as dependable after seeing and feeling the E-Flites.
I might drill new holes in the flange to mount the elect gear as opposed to adding rails as someone else has done.

Tom

PS: it's a $200 loss (the robarts being newly purchased) but to me ,money well spent.

I finally got mine done. At least the building part - still have to set throws and run the engine in a bit.

It came out to 9lb 6oz and balanced with no added weight with the DLE20. The E-Flite retracts should work fine with the weight being below their spec too.

BradC,

The Master Airscrew 16x8x3 runs really fine on the DLE 20. Painting the tips yellow looks pretty good, too!

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll try it out. That's a XOAR 16x8 WWII prop on there now. I have a 17x8 as well. I would rather go with a 3 blade for looks but the cost for the XOAR was more than I was willing to do for the first flights until I know if it tends to nose over or not.

Good job Brad!
Are those robart diamond tread wheels? I just ordered those with the robo struts. The gear doors add a nice touch.
I also have the E-flite retracts coming.
I don't foresee nose over tendencies with the 100 degree retracts.
Happy Flying

Thanks.. Yeah, those are Robart wheels. They look better but also give more on landing than the stock ones so it's less likely to do the warbird bounce and stall trick.

Good luck with yours!

Brad: I tried to PM you but to no avail. Is there a trick getting the strut from the retracts? I loosened the set screw but don't want to force anything.
I'm at the point of installing the Robo-struts but can't get the wire from the retracts.

Tom,

I went through the same thing on mine.

At the end of the strut there are actually 3 set screws to remove and then the collar will come off. The guide pin is one of them. Just grab that with vice grips and back it out. Once that's out, you will see there are two normal set screws on either side of where the pin goes in (rotate the strut to get to them). Once the end collar is off, pull the strut out and you'll see how the spring inside has ends that set in to small holes in both the retract housing and the spring side collar. Make sure you keep left and right straight on the spring as you will have to re-tension the strut in the right direction when you put it all back together.

I just got your PM this morning by the way.

Brad..

I haven't flown it yet but here's a couple of videos of it running. I had it out to tune the engine so I taxied it around a few times. That JTEC muffler makes the DLE 20 sound really nice. Way better than the stock muffler which was louder and annoyingly raspy - in my opinion anyway.

It looks like it handles really well on the ground and sounds like it will have plenty of power.

I just ordered one of these tonight. Will be using a TT .75 and Robart 615s from and older Corsair along with the robostruts. I had good luck with them on the kit built version.

What Size (diameter, width) Are the (Stock) Main Wheels?

Also, Please measure the wheel wells, to determine what is the largest diameter wheels that could work with them.

For the record: full scale Corsairs have wheels that are 32" diameter. Since these are 1/8 scale, the correct scale size would be 4" I know from experience that fitting 4" wheels into a '60 size' Top Flite Corsair is quite a challenge. But the recommended size is 3 1/4", which flat out appear to be way too small. I have found that 3 1/2" wheels offer a good compromise of scale looks and functionality.

Pretty sure I bought 3.5" when I changed out the stock wheels. I can verify when I get home.
