Is this the one?
My initial guess would be: YES!
It is obviously a Top Flite, but has some ARF characteristcs such as the the obviously molded (and painted) tailwheel area cover, and the cowl which is slightly mis-matched colorwise to the covering

On a positive note: the wingtips and rudder APPEAR to be at the very least: more correct than the kit version built as per plans.

On the negative side tho, it is obviously a representation of Lt. Ira Kepfords F4U-1A, which had a tri-color scheme. It also appears to be gray on the underside: only the very early Corsairs, mostly F4U-1 s, had a 2 tone scheme with gray on the underside.

Overall, IF they got the outline correct as it appears: I usually strip down ARFs anyway and apply my own finish/ scheme (wish more companies would offer ARCs).

Ok it doesn't look too bad let's hope TF gets the colors right. I would really like to see the tri color Kepford version,(Are you open for suggestions TF)I had a Jemco kit many years ago that represented that aircraft. If nothing else I hope the production models paint matches the covering better than the prototype.[&o]

Again, I think this might have been a "Pre-Production" model, as it looked a little rough, nothing like the P40, that what hanging above it!

However, letting the cat out of the bag they got us talking about it!

I might have to get one of these, more so if my maiden of my 60 size Corsair kit does not go well this year. I wish they would put out a FW-190, BF 109 or a Stuka ARF.

Yep, I talked to Don Anderson about it and he said that this was a pre-production model that they "rushed" so they could unveil it at Toledo. He was very disapointed with the cowl color mismatch and said that even though it looks right under natural light, it would be corrected before production starts.

Am I the only one hoping it has the built in hidden hatch like the stang and jug so it can be electrified?

Hmm - the engine power range is pretty small, especially for the wing loading they list. I wonder if this plane has beeen redesigned so it won't accept/hold up to 1.20 4 strokes? .90 2 strokes? DLE 20?

Engine: 2-stroke .61-.65 cu in or 4-stroke .91-.95 cu in
Propeller, fuel, building and field equipment

SPECS: Wingspan: 62.5" (1590mm)
Wing Area: 699 in² (45.1 dm²)
Weight: 8.5-9.5 lb (3.85-4.3 kg)
Wing Loading: 28-31 oz/ft² (85-95 g/dm²)

The kit specs say:
Wingspan: 62 in (1575mm)
Wing Area: 700 sq in (42.5 sq dm)
Weight: 7-9.5 lb (3180-4310g) Fuselage Length: 48.5 in (1230mm)
Requires: 2-stroke .61-.90 cu in (10-15cc) or 4-stroke .91-1.20 cu in (15-20cc) engine & 4-7 channel radio with 4-7 standard servos

If it weighs less than 10 lb as advertised, it won't need anything bigger than they are recommending. I've got a Saito .91, which I know is capable of swinging Master Airscrew 3 blade 14 x 7, and I also know that combination will be all that's needed for me in this model.

well its span is 3" shorter the then P-40's & up to 1lb-1 1/2lbs lighter, so I would
suspect TF would recomend smaller 4-strokes to cover their butts. the 2-stroke
sizes are the same. .60 & up.

Plus, OS has a new 95 4-stroke that looks pretty sweet!

Well to me if it won't handle a dle20 they made a big mistake - the kit version was well designed and easily strong enough for a 1.20 4 stroke , .90 2 stroke, or the dle20 - as the kit specs I copied show. This was one of the selling points for buying a Top Flite plane. But maybe it actually will handle this and whoever put the data up for the arf goofed - the weight shown is pretty much the same so they probably didn't take too much out of the structure.

The DLE20 and other Chinese copies of the DLE20 is going to be the engine of choice instead of the larger 4 strokes(1.20 -1.25) (except maybe the YS engines) and the 75-90 suze 2 strokes, in my opinion, and Top Flite will have a rough time competing against the other arfs if it can't handle the dle20.

But if you are ok flying this plane with the engines they now list (2-stroke .61-.65 cu in or 4-stroke .91-.95 cu in) this would be a good choice.

well if the cowl can hide most of the DLE20 ( purely for asthetics) I would imagine that there
wouldn't be a problem using the DLE20. I put one in myTF P-40. pretty easy, no major surgery.

BTW, imo, the DLE20 is a lightyearadvance in small gas engine technology.
put the26cc gassers of other companies to shame, obviously considering the
DLE20 makes more power & can swing a bigger prop & is much lighter.

Not everyone has the mindset that dictates: gas engines are the way to go. Many still prefer nitro fueled 4 strokes OR 2 strokes, and even electric power is has very strong arguments for it.

To some, fuel economy isn't the 1st priority. Keeping it light (to fly right), looks, and sound are all factors which do not favor gas engines.

Personally, I have been extremely satisfied with the way a Saito .82 powers mine. The jug does not protrude from the cowl in the least bit, the muffler can be completely concealed, and the sound is awesome. The Saito .91 is only slightly larger, but will give that margin for error that so many believe they need.

I'm thinking real hard about this ARF, I would like to see different views of it (didn't ANYBODY else get pics at Toledo?), and if it turns out the wingtips and rudder profiles have been corrected: I buy one, strip it down, and put a better finish on it, and power it with either another Saito .82 OR .91.

Here is pic of my old TF Corsair with Saito .82GK, can you spot it?

I have been waiting for this one to come out for a few years now. With the P40, P47, and P51 getting updated ARFs over the last few years, I figured it was only a matter of time. The F4U is my favorite warbird. I have a Hangar 9 hanging in my basement, but it's going to be very hard for me to resist the Top Flite version, which I'm guessing will be a little higher quality. I'd prefer the W.W. II paint scheme over the Korea War scheme.

Hey,

This looks promising, a .60 size ARF Corsair that will readily take a .120FS, Robart retracts, and has a good profile. Even the finish looks good enough to recover or glass and personalize and be an enjoyable process.

Most important to me, and I never understood the H9 version for omitting them, it has flaps. I'm sorry, but landing and doing slow fly-bys are much less stressfull with some flap dialed in on a plane that has wing loading equal to a brick.

Having built the kit version, and the P-51, a little bit of me is sad that I feel they will discontinue or inflate the price of the kits.

I like the looks as well , and you can tell they threw it together for the show , even the wheels are off the 60 size P40 lol .
Its ok , I am sure the finished version will be sweet !!!.
As far as flaps , I know the H9 would be great with them , but I have to say its one of the easiest warbirds I have ever owned and flown , light , glides for miles , no need for flaps but ............would have loved the fun factor !!!
Did Mike say it was 100% sheeted wings ?
I can see it now , panel line , gear doors , perhaps a retract tail wheel , yep !!

Wish the video would have shown a little less of the old men and more of the plane. Still can't tell, but MAYBE they got the wingtips right. Also, oil coolers look different/ more recessed (as they should be).
