I Saw it! TF 60 Size Corsair ARF!!!!!
#727
I just pick up one of these used that has the Robart gear in it. It sounds like there not the best option. Was thinking about using E-flite but I only see the 25-46 100 degree ones. I don't really want to spend $290 on Sierras.
Any other options? I'm not looking to build a scale plane just need something that works.
Looks like I will be using an os 95 ax that I have for power. I could go electric but I think it will add too much to the total cost of the plane.

Went flying this morning with some friends planning to get 4 flights on the Corsair but Murphy had other ideas. I got 2 great flights in and then noticed the left aileron hunting center. So I grounded Skipper until repairs could be made. Not ready to head home yet I thought it would be fun to play with the camera some...

All,
Hope this reaches you in good health and spirits in the new year. Was out at the field today (1/11), flying the Sky-bolt and got a burst of inspiration to re-start the corsair. Haven't bee out in a while, so no one clued me in that one of the regulars has a .60 size zero flying. Seeing that zero in the air today was all I needed to kick me in gear.
Hopefully, I'll be chasing that zero around soon. I'll have to re-open the box tonight and figure out what I've got vs. what I will need. Thinking of either the Saito 100 or OS 95v to power it and fixed gear for now (I know, I know fixed gear on a corsair????? to many problems/ headaches right now). Any updates, or anything I should keep in mind at this point, as I dive back into the .60 warbird arena?

Mine is ready to go hopefully! Just need some decent weather around here. Robart 615 retracts, RCGF 20 cc gasser and Hitec 645mg servos all around.
For those of you that use flaps ( and Im not sure that this bird will require them ?....), did you program your flaps so that you can use half flaps then drop to full flaps on a three way switch, or do you have yours so that they just drop to full flaps at the flick of your switch ?
If doing the 3 way switch, would anyone mind telling how I would set that up do using a Futaba super 9 tx?

Hi John,
In flying my mustang, I set up my flaps with a dial and "tuned in" a much as I needed depending on how hot I was bringing her in. On a three position switch, I would set it at .25 and .50 to start and adjust it from there. Not sure on programming your radio as I fly with an Aurora, but you should be able to find a set up on google or youtube.

John - I use flaps on a three position switch. I can't help you with the programming but I remember having to set up the travel so that the flaps don't exceed the ability of the fiberglass connectors spanning between sections. Obviously the first position is flaps full up. The middle position is flaps a little less than half way (for a windy day). The furthest position from up is full flaps. Full flaps is only about 25 or 30 degrees because of the need to connect flap sections as the wing bends. The flaps are very effective so more deflection is not required (unlike my mustang that likes 60 degrees of flaps).
Good luck - Carl

Appreciate the replies guys!
Bird, Im too clumsy to use the dial so I'd better use the switch instead but thanks.
Carl, thank you...I actually replaced those triangular shaped connectors between the flaps with a wider piece due to my flaps would only drop a very small amount before they separated, I can get a good 90° out of those suckers now and they wont come apart if I needed too

Gents,
Seems like I'm loosing my mind. I must be missing something here. Putting in the flap servos, per the instructions, but it seems as if they've given me two "left handed" hatches in lieu of a right and a left. Am I loosing it? If I install the pushrods as pictured I'll have one long and short, giving unequal pressure to the control surface. If I flip one servo around, I'll hit the Robart hinge in the flap surface. Is this right?

I believe both hatches should be arranged like the hatch on the right side of the picture. ( left wing panel). There are pictures on pages 10 and 11 of the manual that show the flap linkages.

Chris,
Thank you for your quick response. I took a look a the manual and you're correct. Strange that they'd do it this way, but there must be a reason???? The picture/ drawing on this page is that way as well.

They are set up this way so that there is no need to reverse one of the servos. Reversing a servo used to be something of an issue but modern computer radios have eliminated the problem and, if it were me, I would install the servos in mirror image fashion (just as the aileron servos are done) in order to make sure both linkages are identical. You could probably take one of your hatches, flip it over and cover the other side with the appropriate covering. My .02 cents of course.

Mike,
Take a look at this thread started by Corsair Jock. It's all about .60 size mods.

Chad,
Just what I was thinking. I'm going to flip the cover and go from there. w/ the Aurora, I can pretty much set up each servo to do whatever I want it to do, as long as it has its own channel.

Update on mine,,,, I flew it Saturday for the first time, It was a bit windy but I went for it anyway It took several laps to get it trimmed out but overall it did fine. I had an air leak so I never got to pull the gear up nor did I try the flaps. All that is now fixed and ready for next weekend !! She came in fine with the RCGF 20cc gasser swinging a 16x8 prop .
Now if someone could tell me how to pull or save the video off from facebook , I would post it here although I am not the original person who shot and posted the video on FB.

John,
Great to hear that you've gotten her up and running. I believe you'll have to speak with the person who posted it and have him send it to you to post. Cant wait to see it. Please do send us a link if you can.

What a great looking bird John!!!!!!!! Thinking of the Navy trim scheme myself. Just haven't pulled the trigger on anything as of yet. Too many to choose from.

I have a TF P51D .60 size ARF and like others' have mentioned the quality is there. I purchased this ARF because I needed an airframe for my OS 1.08 that was sitting idle. The retracts that came with the plane were junk and I replaced them with EFlite electrics' coupled to Robart struts and wheel assemblies. Once completed the overall weight approached 11lbs dry. The wing loading shoved it into the heavy metal category and left me worried about its' flight characteristics. To make a long story short it flew like a pattern ship on steroids. Flying at this weight I would not recommend it to your average Sunday flyer.
