Default WARBIRDS OVER DENVER, June 10-12

We're getting close to the kickoff of another awesome summer flying season in Colorado! Warbirds Over Denver is scheduled for it's usual long weekend, the 10th through the 12th of June. We will again be honoring a group of our local Vets and providing all who attend the hospitality and camaraderie to which you've grown accustomed. We're also keeping the Pilot's registration fee at $25, providing an event T-shirt and including a complimentary lunch on Saturday and Sunday for all registered Pilots. If you haven't flown off our recently resurfaced runways, you're in for a treat! The field is looking great and hopefully the winter weather will stay away this year! Go to the WOD website if you'd like to preregister. We're looking forward to seeing everyone there!

This is a surprise. I don't remember where I got my information, but I had it scheduled for Mid september. Is there more than one event?

Doug, were all looking forward to being there. This year were bringing our life vests and inflatable dinghies! Well at least our dinghies.

This event has always been the 2nd week of June at Chatfield State Park. Perhaps you are referring to that "other" event.

Hey Larry and Ron! Great to hear from you guys. Wished I could have made it to Pueblo last weekend...it's that time of year when I dust off some of the "event" planes, do some maintenance and some pre "Warbirds" test flights. Everything checked out well. I hope you fellas had as good a weekend and that the "maidens" went well! Lora's back in town with the Meister Zero, fresh off it's major repair from the incident a couple of years ago. I have to say, I had my doubts as to whether she was repairable or not but Phill in Minnisota performed a miracle! I'm hoping to have her airworthy by your event. She needs to be finished and re-engined, but just to have her back in the fold makes me feel all warm & fuzzy! I wouldn't want Ty's build of an original prototype to be put to rest!

Just a note...we'll again have a group of Vets from Fitzsimmons at the event...great bunch of guys. And just for good measure we're working to have some full-scale flyovers including "Aluminum Overcast", which is scheduled to be in town all that weekend. You just can't forget the look on these guys faces when that lovely B17 rumbled overhead! Countin' down the days!! By the way...THANKS PHILL! YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Those Minnesota guys are builders extraordinaire! We're really looking forward to having you guys out this year. Can't wait!

Glasair
There at least four warbird events in Colorado scheduled for this summer. Colorado has always been a mecca of great warbird entusiasts.

The first event is Warbirds Over Denver, scheduled fo June 10, 11 and 12.
The next event is Warbirds Over Colorado Springs, scheduled for two week later. June 24,25 and 26
Then Publo event is over Labor Day September 2, 3 and 4
The last event of the season in Colorado is Warbirds Over The Rockies. September 22,23 and 24.

There were a couple of smaller events held last year, but I do not know if the Arvada club or Mile Hi RC will host their event this year. All of the warbird events have a slightly different flavor, and all are a lot of fun to attend. One thing for certain is that the organizers of all the events are warbird pilots and know how to put on a fun safe event.

Love air in Ft Collins also puts on a nice jet event May 20,21 and 22. Although not a true warbird event, there a lot of scale warbirds in attendance.

Here are web sites for each.

HEY DOUG,
We had a great day. Wind stayed down to a light breeze and we got some awesome Warbird flying in. 4 new warbirds showed up for their maidens. As is normal for Giant Scale warbirds, problems prevented two from their maidens, but two got er done! Rob Pike after a year of building and slaving over his TOP FLITE GS P-47 kit, brought her out for the third time and this time, WALLA..........PUT HER UP! All Went well Rob did a great job. You'll see her in Denver. I put the second flight on my new TF jug. All went ok I guess. Still trying to get 'er dialed in... My landing was hot and long so I rolled her off the West end of the runway and took some landing gear damage. She also will be in Denver. Sam's bring a new Giant Scale Hell Cat he's been working on for a year or so. Larry's bringing a new Hurricane, John Fay's bringing a new GS Corsair. Brent will be bringing the Ziroli Jug again, Along with all the old standbys...........We'll have quite a showing.........

CAN'T WAIT..............I'M FEELIN THE NEED FOR SPEED..........

Ron,
Glad to hear the weekend was a success! I think we'll need to get a gaggle of giant P47's up. My Vailly jug has been flying quite a bit and I should be able to keep up now that the engine is getting broken in. I'm really looking forward to seeing all the new planes...especially Larry's Hurricane. Who's the manufacturer? What's Duane bringing...Corsair? Jug?

Hey Ken! We're glad you can make it...it's always a blast to fly the L4's together. I'll bet you can get Lora to take the sticks if you get after her enough! Me, I'd be happy to give her the xmitter...then I could tape you two flying in formation...COOL!

Bruno, I just got the air system all installed...found a leak in one of the cylinders. Damn! I tried the oil fix but don't know yet if that'll work. I may need to order another cylinder from Yellow...I'll find out tonight. Lora will be out of town the weekend before the event so either it's ready for the maiden on the 28th or wait 'till the 10th of June! She's decided on the "Desert Sand" paint scheme. OK, no ribbing me on flying a pink Spitfire! I'm actually almost convinced it'll look pretty cool. We'll see...only a month to go before the event!

Here's a couple of shots of my B25 that'll be there.

Just heard from Cal...only 10 guys from Minnesota coming? The rest must be staying home to fly their Extra's right? No really, we're thrilled that such a large contingent will be on hand. Without the Northern Alliance, the outcome of the battle would be in doubt! Two weeks to go...the field is looking good with all the rain we've been having. Lora's been working hard on all the behind the scenes organizational stuff. By the way Jeff...if you have some obscure 40's dance music, bring it. We have quite a collection but I know you somehow have access to some of the more "interesting" stuff.

I just got confirmation of SOME full scale flyby's. Also, the B17 is again at Centennial over the weekend and I wouldn't be surprised if...... The pilot shirts are in, a very cool design by our resident artist...Corsair Eddie. We decided to make them collared this year, I think you'll like them and would advise the purchase of an extra or two before they're history! I wanted to put a pic up here but Lora has decided to make you wait!

Ron, I'm thinking a big Jug gaggle might be in order, a reenactment of the Battle of Bastogne perhaps!

One week to go!
