Is this a kit that you sell and if so added to my list.

The inserts with the 2-56 X 1" drive bolts were soldered together.
Hi Gary, I see you changed the design of your rails, I wonder which to model after?????

The ball drive works better with no binding.

I was asked about the installation of the front wing hinges. Here are some pictures of a set installed at the factory on an ARF version we have in the shop.

The tool we made to set the front hinges using the main hinge anchored to the spar.

Front hinge glued it. The distance in between the front hinge and the arm is 145mm or 5 11/16". This can vary slightly as long as the two are perfectly aligned and you leave room for the outer half of this front hinge in the leading edge of the outer panel. Notice how the factory fills the area up in front of the hinge with adhesive after it is tacked in place, checked for alignment, and the bolts are permanently installed.

It is imperative to use an alignment tool. This is a critical step that must be done right the first time.

The three pictures were you see the wires is the outer panel with the other half of the hinge installed.

Glad to help Bill.

Also note the instructions in the manual about bolting and gluing the arm to the spar. This can be over-tightened, impacting the operation of the folding system by causing excessive friction. They do a pretty good job of explaining the installation and what NOT to do. This whole process is the most complex and difficult part of the build. It's all down hill from this.

I'm going to post a series of pictures and a couple videos to help those installing the gun system. I have manuals written for many of our mods, but the one for this system is not completed. Lots of time in manuals. More than you can imagine. Anyway, here are some pictures to help with doing things in an orderly and precise way.

First how to locate your wing port fairings. CARF gives you no help on this. They are sent to you still connected for a reason.

The location is ever so slightly off from scale, but is necessary to clear the structure inside as the last picture in the previous post shows. After this is done, here is what we do next. Remember, these are molded to fit each wing, so you need to keep them in order and together. We do it the following way to keep them easily in order.

Now for the "barrels". Notice that the guns are not in line with the center of the leading edge much like the P-47. This is how we insure they are straight and in the correct order when the individual fairings are cut apart and glued in.

More in the next installment. Gatta get some building done.

Oh, one more bit of help for tonight. This is a short video we made awhile back of our system before it is installed. It explains the components and some operating tips.

All this is in this thread already, but I know finding things in a long thread like this is tough, and some folks are installing this stuff now or will be soon, so here it is again.

I should also point out that, just as with the full scale 50 cals, they can be overheated. You will notice the heat sink on the CPU. It generates a fair amount of heat, so the guns should be fired in the same way the full scale were, with short bursts. DON'T keep your finger on the trigger more that a few seconds at a time. It is more realistic anyway. They typically carried about 400 rounds per gun and the 50s fired at a rate of 800 / minute. Easy math. 30 seconds and your were out of ammo. Short bursts.

Ok lets continue the gun installation. Now it is time to cut the fairings apart. All the marks you put on them help keep them in order. Next comes the install of the lights. We use epoxy for this. Here are the steps. A couple looks from inside. The wires you see in the cardboard tube are coming from the nav and formation lights in this panel.

A VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL ON THE GUN LIGHT INSTALLATION. There is a difference in the location of the guns on the folding wing version vs the plug in wing version. The inner superstructure of the two respective outer panels is different, requiring an adjustment in where you start the first gun hole. Here is a picture of each panel showing the difference.

First the plug in version. A look inside, Now the folding version. A look inside.

You can see how different the two wings are on the inside, and why the need to shift the guns toward the tips.
A few more shots of the folding wing version.

I have a question for the gurus in this thread.
I am in the process of building the Carf Corsair folding wing KIT version.
From what I've read here and other forums most people are building the ARF version.
I needed some one to explain the installation of the hinges in the ailerons and elevator.
The manual is lame for me.
Can anyone direct me to a thread that builds the KIT version of this model and show how it is done?
If I had plans it would be easier than the pictures in the manual.
I am a kit builder and all my builds were made from plans.

Cheers
Bill

A series of pictures showing the aileron hinges being installed on the kit version. Hope this helps fill in some info gaps. Couple of the flaps as well. The tape is key.

Thank you Gary. So that means that there's a rod going through the aileron to hold the hinges in place? right?
And the same thing for the elevator?

Yes. Brass rods. Elevator on the left, aileron on the right.
