Hi Paul,

This raises my concern. I thought you fixed the gear issue by making the knuckels have a "over the center" travel. Does your gear still collapse with that fix?

I had two large Sierra air tanks. I was able to hold pressure both up and down for several days. I ran 110lbs of pressure before flights and landed in excess of 100lbs. I was not able to determine why it would fail one time and not the next or I would have addressed it. Thanks for asking..........

I will call Ray Labonte tomorrow. This looks like a defective design. I hope Comp ARF and Sierra stand behind their products.

I doubt Sierra will stand by anything, his Miester P 47 gear upper door collar is out of position. It is NON-FUNCTIONAL. He refuses too make it right. His loss.

Perhaps Comp -ARF can get somewhere with Sierra.

I just looked at some new Robart Corsair gear that I have (1/5 scale), and it has mechanical locks both in the up and down positions. I'm sure Darrel is capable of doing the same, if he has a mind to, and it looks like it would not be that hard.

Given the size and investment in this Corsair, he should have a mind to make this gear as good as it can be, IMO.

Good Luck on flight #2. I am down to checking the fuel system for function and leaks. Put the prop on and check CG one more time.

Following the landing gear issues some are having, I will double check mine again.

Did you break in your engine on a test stand or on the Corsair?

Well guys, I just got home from the fly-in and it went GREAT!!!!!

The wings worked good, the engine ran good, she flew great, THE LANDING WAS WITHOUT ISSUES, and the gear worked flawlessly.

I brought it in tail high, and planted the mains firmly so she couldn't bounce back up. It went great.

A friend got video of the whole flight. I'll post with it as soon as I get it. I also have some stills to post.

Bob Brown (AMA President) was there, and I got to have a nice visit with him. He is a fan of these giant war birds as we are.

Thanks to Larry, his crew and wife for such wonderful hospitality and a great day of flying.

Hello Vern. We ran the engine in the plane, not on a stand. (4) runs prior to the first flight. Checked it over and re-tightened the exhaust nuts after each run. They are loose again after the runs today.

As for the gear, we aired up just before we flew, and I didn't do a down and dirty slow pass. Worked great.

I used the recommended throws with 60% expo on ailerons and elevators, and 70% on the rudder. For taxi, I have my dual rates set max throw on the elevator. I have my brother remind me to switch it down before take off, lest I forget.

We are going to increase the flaps another 5% from 30% to 35%. May go to 40% later.

Glad you had a fun day and thanks for the excellent report.

Glad to hear about the radio setup. I seem to always over correct on the flare and cause a small roller coaster effect. I usually set my expo to about 35% for most things. But will follow your lead on radio setup.

I will keep an eye on the exhaust nuts. I researched the AN900 GASKETS. and they are asbestos filled copper rings. We use them at work, and our procedure is, turn the nut finger tight and then tighten a further 1/16 to 1/8 inch turn. It is reusable until you get no further crushing of the gasket.

Worst case, try some of this, ANTI-SEIZE Sealant Tape, Ceramic, 1/2 x 600 In .ealant Tape, Poly Temp(R), Size 1/2 x 600 In, Temp. Range -450 To 2100 F, Characteristics Ceramic Filled with PTFE, Application Specifically For Anti Seize Applications Typical to Food Industry, Standards MIL SPEC T-27703A, CID A-A-58092

Well we finaly got the pleasure to see Zombie and that beautiful Corsair in flight.

The drive to Grafton only took 3 hours and well worth it . But on the way back we seem to aquire a speeding ticket ,.,, ooops.

The best part of the trip i finaly got to meet my friend Gary.

I have never heard a Moki radial before and i'll tell you it is sweet .

The people at the field were great and very friendy not to mention all the tid bits of info i came back with.

Gary i will put all the video i have on a cd of Zombie and the Corsair and mail it out to you, sense the camera my brother-in-law and i used only records in HD , the files are to large to email.

The way you landed her sure didn't look like the second flight ,, i think you got it down pat.

Thank you Dan. I'm glad you made the trip and had a good time (sorry to hear about your driving award) and thanks for taking the video. I'm anxious to see it and learn from it. Yes, we try to learn something from each flight, and I learned a lot about the Comp Arf Corsair that first flight and this one.

This is a well designed airplane and teemed with the intended Moki 250, a joy to fly. Landing is a challenge and different than my other war birds, but not any harder, just a little different approach is needed on the final approach, touchdown and roll-out. You need a little more speed in order to "fly" it down the runway after touch down, keeping the tail high until it comes down on it's own. Stalling it to the ground will likely cause a bounce and further problems. Much different than our Meister P-47, but very cool to watch.

Thanks again for attending with your boy. I hope to see you again when we can fly our P-38s together.

Thank you. It was a good day. The first picture is of the take-off roll, no flaps and slightly nose high. I like to make a very gradual assent into the air as the full scale planes did. The second is of the landing just after touch down. The final approach was tail high, with just a slight leveling at touchdown and then a very tail high run-out, as speed was bled off. Worked great and not a hint of any gear issues.

The field is in Grafton on rt 82 west of Cleveland. Yes, that is Bernie. He was checking out our planes and flying style for possible future participation in the model display part of the Cleveland Air Show. Looks like Zombie and the F4U may be part of the show next year. It would be a real privileged to represent the giant scale war bird segment of our hobby.

It was a treat to meet Bernie, and Bob Brown at this event. Icing on the cake.
