Hi Gary-
I just wanted to say a sincere "Thanks" for taking the time to share all your tips and methods here. I have learned much from it, even though I don't own a CARF Corsair (yet...)
Would love to see you do the same for a CARF '47 one day if you happen to get a build job for one.

Thank you very much Mike. Yea, sometimes I forget that there were a couple other planes in the fight other than the Corsair LOL. Seriously though, you may not have to wait that long. A P-47 may be in our future sooner than later. Two of our customers want one. So we will see. I have already given some thought to things I would do on it that I have not seen done before. Every one of our builds is special in some way. Keeps it fresh and interesting for us and our owners.

BTW, I have adapted the canopy system to a couple P-51s on request. It can be done.

Aluminum is being applied to the wing in areas that will be weathered.

New aluminum doors for the top hinge covers on the folding wings. These replace the plastic ones they supply that are not molded to shape.

For you guys who have one of these in your future, here is a video of one of our builds. You may have seen it before, but if not, it is professionaly done and I hope you will find it to be an enjoyable couple minutes.

Wings on this one are almost ready for paint. A little more aluminum yet, and then some sanding on it. The panel lines appear winder than they are because we just have the panels slid in and not bolted.

BTW, you guys seen my scale instrument panels? It includes the laser cut aluminum panel (including the screw holes), machined aluminum bezels in all three sizes, the instrument sheet, clear plastic, and the little screws. Paint these up, and then beat on them, and you expose real aluminum.

If my nephew ever gets my web site done.............this will be easier. Maybe I should just pay the boy something.

Well, I thought I would modify my top hatch latch going forward for future kits, but I have reconsidered. I came up with a nifty push button release that mounts in the instrument panel of my P-47 build. They I realized that, in order to open the power canopy to get to the push button, the switch must be on and the radio powered up, and these are under that very hatch. Also, I'm sure that some guys will just screw the canopy on and call it a day. So, for the time being, I will just leave the hatch as I originally designed it, using the gas cap as the release.

Gary very nice stuff. Do you offer the panle for the Meister P-47?

the down and locked canopy slide looks great, is the throw adjustable and what are the perimeters (length of movement)?

Thanks Tony. I'm trying to do as much electric as possible to eliminate air altogether. So far so good on the electric canopies, thanks to my friends at Down & Locked who aren't afraid to tackle almost any challenge we can think up.

Yes, the system is adjustable. The range I need for the Corsair is 5.5", but this jack screw will do up to 7.25", and the motor can be fitted with even longer ones if need be. I don't think range would be a problem for even the largest of canopies.

On the panels, no, I don't have an aluminum one for the P-47. However, Dino already offers a very nice one (not aluminum) that is ready to install and looks great. I'm not doing the cockpit in the one I'm building right now, but on the next one I do, I'll be using Dino's. Saves me about 10 hours of work and looks almost as good

For the Meister P-47 I don't make anything to share for the cockpit. I do have patterns for all the cowl flap parts for someone who wants to add them to the fuselage as the full scale has. This makes getting the front section over a radial very easy. I also have the wing tip nav light lenses, and other lighting like the formation lights. Also have the custom length engine stand offs for the Moki 150/180 to bolt right in the P-47. A few things.

Thanks Gary, I'm sure I will be knocking when the time comes, does down and locked offer the canopy jack or is this setup custom one of a kind?

As a direct result of our work with the Corsair, Down & Locked is now offering a generic canopy system. The builder will need to devise his own method of connecting it to his sliding canopy. Due to our experimentation with various configurations, it now consists of one motor/tranny/jack screw, a threaded hard point on the jack screw, and the amp-out control box (very similar to the one for the gear). They will also be stocking my custom parts adapted to the Corsair to sell as a complete system customized to that airplane, and my canopy sliding system. You will also be able to buy my canopy mounting kit for the Corsair from them, making it the whole complete kit to slide and motorize your Corsair canopy.

NOTE..... the drive system must mount in front of the canopy. YOU MUST ACCOUNT FOR THE SPACE NEEDED when laying out the other components that will occupy the space in the nose. Everything fits nicely including the tank, but I recommend getting this system laid out and working around it.

My critical path for the fuselage is basically this, with regards the front section.

1 install the slider (fixed section removable at this point)
2 install the instrument panel (the rails go through this)
3 if using the top hatch where the main fuel tank was, install this now along with all switches and other things in there
4 now install the drive system
5 then the radio and fuel system can be fitted around these other components

Hi Ram
Beutiful work all around, a few questions please. On the down and lock linear action servo do you need a control board for the proper start, stop , reverse movement ? I tried the idea with the robart drive mechanisum and ended having to go to a Fergelli linear servo. They work without the use of any special control boards.
Second question, have you considered making the corsair interior kits for small scale application like the ESM 75" Corsair ?
Thanks
Lou
