Thanks for the compliment! It is not a Brian Taylor design, I designed it back in 1998 specifically to fly at Top Gun and other scale competitions. It did well for me, winning two Mr. Top Gun titles (2000 &2003) and winning the Masters class five times. And this was before the handicaps on jets and bonus for tailwheels adjustments that Frank threw in. I can still take pride in the fact that this is still the only single engine WW2 fighter to win the title of Mr. Top Gun (twice). It also won the US Nats Designer class five times.
109's just fly well....( a testament to Willy Messerschmitt) much like a heavy pattern model. The moments and areas lend themselves well to stabililty....especially with the CG way forward, which I have because it helps the ground handling. I used a NACA 2412 root airfoil and a clark Y tip for the wing (2 degrees washout) which maintained a somewhat scale shape. This combo worked quite well...very stable and you have to abuse it badly for it to snap.
At 86" span, this model is getting a little small for today's competition arena. I have been thinking about blowing it up to 30%, yielding a 117" model. Of course, this would involve two wing panels instead of a one piece wing as I have now. But on the plus side, it is big enough to make operable slats. And I think they would make a difference on a model that size. I would also have to carve a new fuselage pattern and make a new mold. Quite an undertaking. Especially with the work load I have now.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in Delaware! Should I bring my shotgun in case the psycho ground hog shows up???

RE: WOD... whos bringin what?
Hey Pete, I just went on the WOD website to register and it seems I'm already registered. With deisel prices coming down (slower than gasoline) even though our lusterous, wonderous Governor Aunt Bev Purdue has gracously signed a Bill to raise the gas tax (and is quite proud of it), I should be able to make it to Delaware cheaper than last year, cant have WOD without a Screamin Stuka. Hows the weather been up there? Its been 90's and almost 100's at times down here in N.C. I'm praying for light winds and cool temps. Oh yeah, and no Psycho Groundhogs....
