Good question Ram-bro. Is he is alluding to the notion that you must have served in the military to talk about military history? Definitely not required or even matters. I have my DD214. Bottom line is the Tuskegee Group were incredible in their performance and served our flag and country proud.

I'm curious as to how many on this forum have ever been issued a 214.

Well my father had one, his father had one, I have one, and each of my two younger brothers has one. Now, tell me what that has to do w/ the discussion here?

My Great Grandfather had his, along with the purple hearts....WW1.....My Grandfather had his along with a purple heart...WW2 and Korea....My Father has his.......Vietnam......I have mine......Gulf War.....and my Son will get his one day......Signed up to join the Marines Corp. after high school next year.
Oh, and if the Tuskegee Airmen lost 25 bombers, that's a whole lot less in the same amount of time than the other fighter groups, and they would have been on initial contact, not after.
I'd say that's a pretty good record in the era of the 262 as well.

Are you stating an opinion or fact in regards to there bomber loss record. Get your facts correct before spouting off. As far as shooting down ME262s they did that while the jets were making landing approaches and not in aerial combat.

Dr. Daniel L. Haulman (Air Force Historical Research Agency):
«The admirable record of the Tuskegee Airmen needs no myths to bolster it. During World War II, 72 Tuskegee Airmen shot down 109 enemy aircraft, including the best of the German fighters. Members of the 332d Fighter Group downed at least ten airplanes on four separate days in 1944 and 1945. Two of the Tuskegee Airmen, the 99th Fighter Squadron’s Captain Edward L. Toppins and the 302d Fighter Squadron’s Lieutenant Lee A. Archer, each shot down four enemy planes. On most missions, the group escorted heavy bombers of the Fifteenth Air Force on raids against targets in Germany, Austria, and other parts of central Europe. Rarely did they lose a bomber, and then it was usually to enemy antiaircraft artillery rather than enemy airplanes. The Tuskegee Airmen proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that African-Americans were capable of flying the best of the Allied fighters to victory against the best of the enemy fighters. They earned an indelible place in the history not only of their service, but also in the history of their country and of the world.»

I just saw Red Tails.
It was fun! I enjoyed the artistic license that allowed everything to be crammed together in any one image. I loved the P-40's and P-51's landing at a 15 degree angle (very steep and very short). The rendering of the P-51 gear seemed off in the landing scenes, the gear was not angled forward. The barracks tents, fuel and aircraft repair all within a wingspan or two of the runway seemed a little reckless but screw it, it was a fun story! I loved the way they tied in scenes from "The Great Escape" into the story.
I'll be painting my P-40E as RayGun for the next flying season! Does anyone have some stills of the nose art?

Would rather be watching the "Blue nose *******'s" not a bunch of brothers that have been in 10 other films about racism...
By 1944-1945...There wasn't any decent german fighters left....Just a bunch of enlisted men, that flew delapitated planes that were in dire need of a overhual...
Wouldn't take much to down them...
That being said...there were plenty of great pilots no matter there skin color..

They were still turning out planes to the end, despite our boys and your boys bombing the cr*p out of them day and night. In the last weeks and months of the war the shortage of fuel rather than airframes and pilots grounded the Luftwaffe.
But the Luftwaffe were overwhelmed by the sheer number of allied aircraft that they faced, and before the end we had not just air superiority but air supremacy in place. Nonetheless the struggle was a hard one and no one should underestimate the sacrifices of the allied airmen of all nations, creeds and colours who helped bring an end to the Nazi regime.

Hey! It’s a movie for Pete’s sake; it’s not a history lesson. Its based on some facts but made for entertainment so don’t get your shorts in a bunch. My grandson asked me to go with him and we both enjoyed it immensely. I thought the computer animation of the aircraft scenes awesome and any aircraft fan will really enjoy it and that’s what a movie should do,

As for the movie, I am looking forward to seeing it. I love the subject, and I love that Hollywood takes WWII on in computer generation. Without this technology, these movies would be impossible to make, given the dwindling availability of the full scale war birds. We should anchorage their efforts anyway we can. Certainly with support by buying tickets, IMO.

RE: New Trailer for
I love it when a new aviation movie comes out !
As far as I remember, the last really good one was Flyboys. A little ridiculous at some points, (i.e every enemy fighter being a bright red Dr.1), but still a great flick.
I'm going to see Red Tails some time this week once exams are over. Can't wait !

Kochj,
Yes, you sound very ignorant indeed. The allied bomber loss rate wasn't because of enlisted men in dilapidated fighters. As far as 'brothers' who've been in movies about racism, that comment makes it sound like you probably weren't the demographic they were aiming for in the first place. Don't look now, but the point of the film (and of the Tuskegee story) is precisely that there were great pilots of ever color but the policy forbade the Black ones from serving. That's your country's history, whether you like it or not.
That having been said, I cringed at the awful writing and comically silly dialogue the whole night. It felt more like a Bazooka Joe comic strip or "Leave It To Beaver" than a war movie. I'm bummed they squandered an opportunity to give a real portrayal of such a remarkable group of men. I guess it's always good to see Mustangs in films, though.

I just saw an interview of one of the principle actors in the movie. He also starred in the HBO production 'The Tuskegee Airmen', which he said focused more on the racial discrimination the group faced during their training. He relayed that a couple of the the original Airmen, now in their 90s, were on the sets as advisers. I'm sure they helped with the facts.

Sean, maybe they should put an asterik next to every plane shot down and every pilot lost because you knoe it wasnt really a war and those werent real bullet. Every time the topic of the Tudkegee Airmen comes up, there is someone out there who refuses to give credit where crexit is due. I am embarrassed by some of "My Fellow Americans" attitude. Its fnny that during the war women could be ferry pilots, German prisoners had more rights thn Americans of Japanese and African descent. Today its a no never mind and is taken forgranted that these guys changed the way wa as Americans see our rights and freedoms. Before Martin Luther King there were the Tuskegee Airmen and it appears to some the experiment is still on going. God Bless America
