Lone Star Flight Museum
On our family vacation I visited the Lone Star Flight Museum on Galveston Island. I would just like to thank everyone there for their dedication and hard work for restoring these beautiful aircraft. The museum is a non-for-profit organization that is supported by people visiting the museum and hard working volunteers devoting many hours into restoring and maintaining these flying relics.
If ever in the Galveston area I highly recommend you visiting. And if you can, you can even schedule a ride in one of them.
Gary.

Thanks for the photos - I've never visited there, even though I'm only 4 hours away. I need to fix that!
I sure hope they don't ever schedule heavy maintenance on any of those birds during hurricane season.

The PBY-4 is still there and looks to be going through the restoration process. One of the mechanics there said that the Spitfire was damaged during hurricane Ike. They had a hell of a time getting most of the flyable aircraft outta there before the hurricane struck, the last plane that took off was the DC-3 and he said there was 6 inches of water on the runway when it left. What they couldn't get out sat there under seven feet of salt water for days.

There's a post over on a plastic modleing site that says this museum has just recieved approval for a move to Ellington Field in Houston, to get the collection a little farther away from the coast.

I understand they are negotiating the lease at Houston International Airport as we speak. I think they are waiting on City Council now. They will go from 8' above sea level to 87' if I remember correctly. I think it will be about 3 years before the move begins.
