Default Grumania Me-262A-1a Build

Last week I received what I think to be the best birthday present one could ever get - a Grumania Me-262. The Me-262, in my opinion, has got to be one of the sexiest jets from WWII. The Grumania kit sold by Vogelsang here in the US comes very well packed and there was no damage to the kit. After unpacking the plane, I was impressed by the quality of work in both the level of detail on the plane itself and the landing gear. After comparing the outline of the kit to the three views I have, this has to be the closest scale outline that I have seen. The gelcoat is nice and clean, no holes, dents or blemishes. The Wabo landing gear is nice and sturdy and looks as if it can take alot of abuse. Here are a few pics I snapped the other day. More to follow.

I started off with a little work on the cockpits today. The basic cockpit looks great without doing any work to it at all. I just figured I would enhance it a bit based on the images I have here.

I built 2 of the C1a versions...they fly nice. What are you powering them with? They'll be at Warbirds Over the Rockies in 2 weeks.

Hey Ryan
Your two birds look great. I am going to do mine in edf. I know I am going to get a lot of flack from a few friends of mine but not every club I go to for warbird events allow turbines. So I am going to do a pair of Schubeler fans and motors in each. I am hoping to meet up with both Ilja and the guys from Schubeler next week at Jet Power in Germany to get the exact combo need for the birds.

Can't wait to see them. The 262 was one of the treats for me last year. I had never seen one fly.

Hope you get some more vid of your bird Ryan. Quick question for you how is she on landing? My Airworld 262 always came in a bit hot. Does this one slow down any better or are you still carrying a good bit of power.

Landing is fine. They are well behaved and I have seen no tendancy for tip stalls so far. There is washout in the tips if u look.

Was in Hahnweide this year. Got to see a 109 and a 262 together for the first time in 66 years.

It was quite special.

(I myself got no pictures; Was busy watching planes, drinking beer, looking at the girls serving beer and eating Wurst.(priority in that sequence))[sm=tongue_smile.gif]

Unfortunately none of them landed....that was a great disappointment.

Landing is quite easy and slow with flaps. On this flight you see the plane using just the inboard flaps at about 25 °.

Good luck guys. I will be watching your build. I think TB learned a few lessons from our 262 project. I am curious on what you go with on the fans and what LIPO/ESC combo you go with. Mine is still working great on 12S...but really excited to see how far you take it to the next level.
