Y/A P-40 Warhawk maiden flight vid
Here is my maiden flight on my Yellow Aircraft P-40 that I built last winter. She has a ZDZ60 for power. I have 10 flights on her now but she can be a handfull on pavement with that short fuse.

BTW the gear stays down in the video because on that day I had a slow air leak and didn't want to chance a belly landing.

Nice flight Joe. Good flying plane. Looks like it would prefer a smooth short grass field huh? Rolls real easy on the tarmac surface there. Can see how it would be a little dicey on pavement.

Looks like a very nice flying model. If you get a chance could you post some close up still shots of the model. What's the weight of the P40 and what brand/size prop are you running, it seems like a great match for the airframe. Cheers

Yes it is markedly better flying off the grass. Out of 10 flights I have 2 on pavement and 8 off of grass. I have broken the prop twice, can you guess which flights they were on?
In the video, the nose over at the end cost me the first carbon fiber prop. It is a 3blade Biela 20x10. I am guessing the weight is about 26lbs

Thanks Joe,
Looks awesome. I'm building the ESM P-40 (I know not the same league as the Yellow) which I have a DA60 in. I have a Biela and Mejlik 22x10 3 blade for it but I was also considering the 20x10 3b which I used to run on my DLE-55 . I've test flown the DA with the 22x10 in my Yak and wasn't overly impressed with it, hence thinking the 20x10 might be better allowing the engine to turn a higher rpm and produce nearer to its rated power. Trouble is the engine was turning 6900 with the 22x10 3 blade and it's not even broken in yet so the 20x10 may be too small. What rpm do you get on the ZDZ? Cheers,
Dave

I like your color scheme choices Joe. P40's look good in base OD. Nice weathering effects too. Hurts busting those carbon props I know. Finishing up a Ziroli P40 at present. Motivating to see nice work.

Hey man! It looks great! Congratulations on a successful flight! I love the color scheme. Much different than the usual P-40.
Have fun with her!!!

Thanks guys.... The prop was actually a 20x12 and I was only getting about 6500 out of it. It's fast enough to keep with the pack and the sound is very good for a 2 stroke.
I am getting things ready for builds this winter ..... 1/3 scale Nieuport 17 and a 1/3 scale Siemen Shuckert.... Got to build up the WW1 fleet
That's what you need PJ ... A WWI aircraft

Joe,
I know. I've been hounded by several people about that. I want to attend some of the Dawn Patrol stuff. Sam Parfett has been at me on getting something. I like the 1/3 Nieuport. May have to look around for one.
