Why does ESM refuse to produce spinners for this airplane. I would love to have one but wont buy a kit without a spinner.

I bought one last year for mine from BigPlanes.
Kwik, their website states not in stock for the spiral version and "ask for delivery time" for the aluminum 2 or 3 blade version. I don't know what that is supposed to mean as there are other spinners for different ESM planes listed in stock.

I got about 12 flights on mine last weekend. It's flying like a champ now that I have the balance where I want it. Even managed to win a plaque!

I reckon one will have to ask for delivery time then.

What balance point did you end up with?
I test flew mine a week or so ago and had the balance at 130mm. It flew quite well, but did seem "heavy" on landing. I think the balance is a bit too far forward.

Not sure I would describe what occurred as a landing. More like an organized drop! lol Furthermore, not much could be derived as to set up from such an event. Seem to fly well. Maybe next time, roll it inverted and see how much down elevator you need to maintain inverted. That will give you a good indicator of CG.

I would agree....first flight jitters did make it a bit difficult to feel comfortable doing anything other then race track pattern. Visually, it didn't seem to be going that fast on approach, but once it went by us, it was definitely still carrying a lot of momentum. I need to get it slower, but also have a bit of power still turning the prop. Its a delicate mix of that considering its a 12 pitch prop.

I will try to get it put together this week and check it. I have been moving stuff forward after every flight until I got it to fly good. The last move was my battery packs. This made the difference. I'll post is asap.

Hi guys
Had a bad maiden today, under takeoff. When i Got some speed, the left tire came off the rim.... And yanked the left retract out, That sucked!!!! How does your 109 behave under takeoff??? Any issues???? Good advice????

That must have just been a faulty tire. Mine takes off very good. I just have to make myself advance the throttle slowly to get the tail up and flying. Mine does tend to pull left pretty bad if I advance the throttle fast. But then again, mine is electric and has lots of power.
Put it back together and give it a try, this is too soon to give up!

They make that black, rubberized super glue. It works great for holding tires on rims.

So it looks like TBM isn't doing anything with ESM anymore. I hope these will make it back to the states again some day.

That is interesting to hear. Have you spoken with them, as the website does not give that indication, other than most everything is out of stock. How about VQ warbirds?

Has anyone tried to put a G62 into one of these?

i dont think it would fit without some serious cowl cutting, g62 is a large engine and me-109 has a narrow cowl.

Power wise it would be perfect probably. A DLE 55 R would be a better fit though. I guess it all depends on what you are looking for.

I have a G62 with a Toni Clark carb manifold and a pitts muffler. I will have to do some measuring.

Sorry to jump in here. New to the site. I'm building and 88" 109 and wondering if anyone is flying this airplane with the CA hinges supplied? What hinges are you using if not. I have stripped all the covering off mine and filled in the bays in preparation for fiberglassing the wings and horizontal. There is enough bite for a regular size Dubro, a CA, but not a Robart. Also, the elevator control horn bites into almost nothing. Just wondering how you guys are handling this. So far, I have added blocks to the hinge positions and used Robarts. Wondering if this is overkill.

I replace all of the hinges in mine with Klett or Dubro hinges, This is usually the first thing I do because I hate hinging, but I think it is time well spent. I almost lost an airplane due to CA hinges breaking and I don't want that to happen again.

Has anyone found a suitable at least a semi scale tail wheel for the 109?
