I was so excited to get my model today, ran out in the shop and started to up pack the model. The box was in perfect shape and everything was packed very well with no movement.
I pulled the fuse out first.... what a mess!! [:@] rips in the covering, dents under the covering, all over the place.... unreal. The box was perfect with nothing loose in the box. Someone packed this model like this.
Next thing I noticed is the overpowering smell, someone spilled something all over the inside of these box...very strong smell like fuel, not oil.

The wing panels laid below the fuse in there own box and baged, each wing has a big blimish right in the middle of the panel. The rest of the parts look fine but the major stuff is just crap. I have had such good luck with horizon and hanger 9 I'm shocked that this thing left horizon like this. As I said the box is perfect so QC dropped the ball big time

I paid over $800 and waited 8 months for this thing and it's trash..... can't believe it. [:@]

I love horizon and really hope they will have my back on this thing, I hate packing things up and sending them back..... so I hope they have my back
so upsetting I had to just leave my shop and get away from it....really pissed off. I'll call them in the morning and see where this goes I hope it's not a pain in my axx

This is just too bad !! Horizon should have been on the ball after all the waiting people had to do to get this plane. I took my name off the list when they kept putting off the arrival date. Keep us posted and I hope horizon steps up and does right by you. I wish you luck.

Real bummer. One would expect such a thing from HobbyKing not Horizon []

Good luck!

Spoke with Horizon and they said to box it back up, they are emailing me a paid shipping label. Once they get the plane back they ship out a new one...
So it shouldn't take to long, hope the next one is much better.

I have always had good service from Horizon. The only thing I could think of, is that they may have repackaged it into a new box and did not even check if other content got damaged. There is not reason to have the internals damaged like that and the outside of the box was perfect. You will love this plane I have the razorback and it is a joy to fly with a OS160FX

Most likely someone mixed a return back into the new stock, or a Chinese worker didn't get the raise he wanted. Maybe it wasn't fuel you smelledGlad to hear they took care of you.

So....just how could they have a return on a newly, just released plane guys? Think about it, Ron is just getting his, so how could someone else have gotten one, and had time to return it for them to box up, and then send it to Ron? I don't believe this is what happened at all. Most likely a lazy careless worker in packaging. The one that boxed it most likely did alot of that damage.

hobby king told me I was out of luck and stuck me with two bad 6s 5000mah packs.... such a gamble with those guys I stopped buying from them

Me to Horizon has always been great.... I don't it was returned plane since this one just hit the market. I think just sloppy work at the factory.

LoL.... well lets hope it was just fuel and not pee.. ... it was strong whatever it was....

I agree Casey, couldn't have been a returned plane.... I think just a mess up at the factory. I know they will get it sorted out and I will get to enjoy the plane soon
looking forward to this one

Welcome to the EU
In the $1200, you're paying the hidden tax for the country with the white/ blue flag now [:@]

Can you post a link, please, showing the price in £?

A quick Google search found it at Steve Webb Models for £639.99, which is certainly not $1200.

The CZE disti (Astramodel) has the price stated as $1000 (that includes 20% VAT)
Top Flite ARF is here available for roughly $800

Well shipping of these large ARFs is really expensive. And the duties and VAT is counted from the value + value of the shipping! If HH or Hobbico will make a stock in EU where all dealers can buy from it will bring the costs down to the customer.
But there is no will on their side I'm afraid.

So I shipped my damaged P-47 back to Horizon on Tuesday the 5th, looking at tracking it's in Illinois but will be delievered on Monday the 11th. I will still have to wait for the shipping back so it looks like it's going to be a two week ordeal to turn this around.
I have to say I'm very nervous the next will show up in poor condtion also.... also bummed that the retracts, cockpit and electric conversion kit (motor mount and battery tray) are all not in stock yet either...
So I may end up with a plane I can't finish for awhile until all the parts are avialable. Feeling in limbo on this plane, I have to get my patience up one this one

The manufacturer should not be advertising their products unless they are ready for release and sale. This goes on way too much. People see the products and want to buy them then find out that they aren't available or on back order and get a bad taste in thier mouths. I can't see how this is good for business.

So time to get my butt moving on this thing, been working lots and flying

I put together my hacker motor mount. I really like hackers cage mounts they have a nice bearing that supports the back of the motor... very strong setup. With the mount in it's second to last setting (almost shortest) and putting a great planes collet on the shaft to extend the shaft to not cause a problem with the dummy engine... I'm at 165mm from the firewall. Almost perfect... the instructions call for 164mm. So I'm real good there.

On friday I want to get the motor mounted up and the ESC wired, I have all my servos and RX ready to install. I went over the entire airframe with a hot iron and sock to get the covering down tight

I bought the full cockpit and a full body pilot (BBI 1/6) I've used these guys before and they look great... but looking at my aces of iron 1/6 scale bust pilot and just the stock cockpit floor I can save dam near a pound in weight. I really just want this to be a nice flyer and as I've found over the year lighter is always a better flyer to me.

So for now I'm just going to go with the bust pilot, no bombs are drop tank, I bought a light system but I'm not even going to use it... just save all the weight I can for max performance and flight time

Keep you posted on friday....
Ron

FYI
The motor is a Hacker A60-16L with a 20x15 prop, ESC is a ICE 160 HV2 with 12s 65c 5000 mah packs

Cut the covering for the retracts and slapped on the pylons

later I'm going to start painting my Aces of Iron pilot while I kick back

Guys
I have the complete electric power system as recommended by Horizon for this bird. That's the Eflite Power 160 motor, the Phoenix ICE HV 120 ESC and two (2) Eflite 5S 18.5v 5000mAh batteries. I have about $730 in all this and would like to sell as a complete package. If you're interested PM me and we'll see if we can't work something out.
Al

Epoxied on the stabs? The orignial ridgeback version had a removable stab, is that not the case on this one? I found it really handy to be able to take the stab off for transport. For a decent size model it becomes pretty compact with a 2 piece wing and removable stabs.

Great job on painting the pilot!
