2011 Northern Alliance Military Fly In - Owatonna Minnesota
Northern Alliance Military Fly In - Aug 12-14 2011
Southern Minnesota Model Aircraft Club - Owatonna MN
Southern Minnesota Model Aircraft Club - Owatonna MN
Event Info:
Entry Fee: The Entry Fee is $20.00 if registered prior to August 1 and $25.00 after August 1.
This is an any size warbird Fly-In. Any Military Plane from any era is welcome, but must be an actual warbird, no modified Extras, etc. Giant Scale classic airplanes are also allowed as long as they are on an aircraft prior to 1962 and have a wingspan of 80" for single wing and 60" for multi wing aircraft. The field has a 650 ft simulated asphalt runway and a 1250 ft grass strip with pretty much unlimited air space to fly in. This is one of the best fields around.
This year we are featuring twin engine aircraft. We want to gather as many twin engine military airplanes as we can. Bring out your B-25’s P-61’s, P-38’s and more!
Awards: Numerous awards will be given out.
Concessions will be available on site. Onsite Camping is available. Nearby Lodging is also available within 10 minutes of the airfield. There is 120 volt and 12/24 volt power on the flight line to power charger starters and other various field equipment. The field is family friendly with a playground for the kids.
Our famous rib dinner will be on Sat. night followed by a bonfire later in the evening. Cost for the dinner is $13 per person and you will not leave hungry.

TWINS ARE FEATURED!!???
You guys are the greatest!
Just when I thought the Owatonna show couldn't get ANY better!
I might be able to rustle up a twin or two or six
You can bet the Iowa contingent will be there, as usual.
And thanks for the early reminder so I can begin starving myself to prep for the BBQ rib/sweet corn dinner
Will there be a trophy for the best engine-out performance?

If you haven't been yet, what are you waiting for... just let me be first in line for dinner !

Maybe I scared 'em all away with that photo of the "Iowa Contingent" in all their sartorial splendor!
Them's rib-eatin' clothes!
Did you know four of the five B-17's last year were from Iowa?
(That's jest a little poke with a sharp stick to all you proud Minnesotans! )
Maybe you can hustle up a twin or two this year, lest you be bested by your Southern brethren.

Hey guys,
Sorry it's been quiet here. We're in full swing for our electric event WATTS over Owatonna. It's this weekend and we're really excited about it. However things are also in full motion in preparing for the warbird event. Tim has a great mower that keeps the field trimmed in a fraction of the time and Karen is busy sourcing the best ribs and corn for another great BBQ dinner. We're looking forward to everyone coming back and celebrating all warbirds but especially the twins. We don't even mind those Iowa guys showing us up a little!
Balsa USA is back this year along with a few other vendors as well. Come early and stay late! We'll see you in two weeks!

Sorry, no twins[:@][:'(][&o]. All the emphasis on the twins...didn't think we were allowed here.
Hope to see you in a couple of weeks. 1500 miles one way....still tryin to work that out. Anyone coming to Florida needing a ride back?? Sounds like a blast up there!!!

Scott:
If you got a Jug bigger than you are, you don't need no stinkin' twin
Is there really a chance you might bring it??
If so, I'll bring my Fw with the radial and let you school me on the engine.
Microtel in Owatonna still had some rooms last I checked. AmericInn never seems to have any.

I am working hard on plans to make it. All things are set and I got the Microtel reserved. I do plan on bringing a Meister Jug with a little 150 radial. The BIG one will not be ready in time. Aiming more towards Monster Planes for its debut....I hope?
If I make it up there I will have the Meister Jug "RAE" and the Wildcat "Mary". Maybe my CARF Ultra Flash painted in Blue Angle colors. Not sure about the jet as it is a "Sport" jet, not scale.
If all goes as planned and I make it up there I plan to hop over to Fond du Lac the following weekend before heading back to Tampa. Got a brother in Milwaukee I like to visit anyway!
Fingers crossed,
Scott
PS: Always happy to help anyone with their Moki. Don't know all the answers but.....

Okay Ryan, it's official. I have a room for Owatonna and the time to go. Both the family and business have given me their "Okay" to go.
Anyone got a physical address I can plug into my GPS for the trip???
The icing on the cake is that my 80 year old dad has decided last minute to join me. This is the best ever news since all my buddies had to cancel due to lack of time or funds or both. I sure wasn't looking forward to the 1500 mile trip driving it alone!
I plan to arrive at the field Wednesday night to drop the trailer if possible. Hope there's no locked gate when we get there??? Then we will come back Thursday morning and begin setup with my buddy Sam Parfitt. I think we will have 6 tents between the two of us. I am very excited and hope the weather treats us all well. Looking forward to see everybody...many of which I haven't seen in a few years. Some....never! New acquaintances are always fun too.
I'll be heading to Fond du Lac the following weekend so more fun to be had making the drive more worthwhile!
See ya soon!
