RE: Giant Scale P-47 Thunderbolt from Hangar 9
I looked at the manual and it does look very nice....
The wing tube wings are a welcome sight.. and is a Value... for sure...
I was a little harsh before... I appologize for that....
MY only complaint is the hardware...
THe plastic control horns. ... or the addition of TI turnbuckles...
I realize that the competition uses none of these..
At least you don't have to solder the linkages and cut your own length of turnbuckles
and not have any nice robart type adjustable linkage ends... (not sure what else to call them)
Looks good...

I looked at the manual as well.
The laser cutout servo mounting brackets are very nice.
The plumbing brackets and holes for the airlines makes for a very clean organized install.
Big improvement in allowing for mounting of solid Robart landing gear, both mains and tail wheel.
Certainly the bigger wheels are a welcomed improvement over the tiny ones on the older model.
CA hinges still? That is a serious drawback, for me at least. This will be fine for an electric or glow engine but is a big NO NO for gas. I hope they made provisions for Robart hinges inside the control surfaces and inside the wings. If not, shame on you Hanger 9.
It will be interesting to see if they can answer the question about whether there are is stock behind the hinge mounting points to accept Robart style hinges for gas.

The ca hinges are no big deal to change...
I use the Dubro brass pin hinges and is a very simple to do..
You really need a Greatplanes electric hinge cutter...
Everyone that has planes needs one of these...

The larger wheels look better! As far as the hinges, I have never had a problem out of them(on p-47 150 Version 1), I also have them on my TF Staggerwing with no problem, but I understand peoples concern. I love how they made the tail-wheel a retract option.
They did but a little bit more work into this one over the first version...

Do the wings come PRE-hinged?
I also think they did a nice job....on the retract....
On a side note....
Seagull models is comming out with a p-51 with all the things one would want w/
retracts, wing-tube type setup... ect...
500$.... is a steal IMHO....

The first version did not come pre-hinged but they did cut the holes for the hinges on the flaps and slots for the CA hinges on the other control surfaces.
I purchased my first seagull Edge 540 in 2006 and for the money and quality you could not go wrong. Right now I have the seagull Gee Bee Z on my wish list, and the seagull yak 60 on my wish list. I already have everything for them, just need the planes. I wish they would have made the p-51 in a 1.20 -1.50 size!!

RE: Giant Scale P-47 Thunderbolt from Hangar 9
I have the previous P-47 (150 size) with an SPE 43cc gasser and Robart retracts. I use CA-type hinges but add 2 or 3 to each surface. After that, I seal all control surfaces, top and bottom with strips of clear Ultracoat. Same process used on 55 and 62 cc equipped aircraft. No issues and one of the planes is over 5 years old. I have seen Robart hinges fail, and to be fair, CA type, too. I think adding the extra hinges and sealing on both sides is what carries it over the top. I always balance the prop. too.
I think it is a matter of preference, but the plane will be fine as is, but I still support doing the extra effort detailed above.

Were either of these planes running a gas engine?
