Default ESM Mitsubishi J2M3 Raiden

There seems to be very little about this kit, so I thought I'd try redress the situation Built almost from standard kit stuff, the only things not used are the cables for the closed loop and the horns for the wing surfaces. I made my own flap horns from glassfibre sheet since I wanted the linkages to be fully internal. The cowl mounting was different too, again since I wanted an invisible set up. The cowl is secured from the back, under the cowl gills. I made a hidden switch, charging and air hatch too, since these are my 'pet peeves' on my models. The motor is a Zenoah 62, with a longer prop driver so it too stays completely inside the cowling. Standard ESM retracts and air kit are used, they were stripped before used and reassembled with grease and threadlock, and seem to be very good. Heres a few pics, plus a video. It was a very dull, foggy grey day, the vid is of the second flight. I have the spinner, but didn't have time to drill the backplate to fit it. The model will get some weathering eventually, perhaps even stripped and glassed if time allows.

I like the look of thatin the air. Something different finally and a nice 3 point landing in the end.

It really does look different in the air, sits great and has a great turn of speed on the 62. Does great three pointers but wheels on great too. I might do a cockpit since the greenhouse is enormous, but here's a pic of the bloke that fills it for now.

Ty, thats great news you are doing a cockpit for the Raiden, my mate Mudflap has just done one of yours for his ESM190D9 and it looks great so I'll be watching with interest. I did wonder if you'd do one but the interest didn't seem high in the Raiden so I thought it might pass you by. When I do a repaint on mine, I fancy a really beat up, flaking paint job, anyone got any images? Also, anyone else out there flying one of these chubby birds?

It wasn't that close Steff, or should I say we've been closer!! I cannot wait to get the Raiden out again, started to drill the backplate for screws to mount the spinner, it'll look much better with that on, I just ran out of time. Its one of those models that feels comfortable from the start.

Where'd you get the prop extension and that spinner?

The long prop driver is home made, originally for a Classic Scale 1/3 scale Tiger Moth. The spinner is actually a spare one from the rear motor on a 1/6 scale Dornier 335 Pfeil I had years ago. I think its close enough to look right, very similar to the radial Focke Wulf 190 shape though if your trying to find one thats close.
