I ordered the muffler directly from Jtech. They know the correct one when you tell them which plane and engine you have. The muffler is $129.95.

RE: Top Flite Giant Corsair ARF Disappeared.

OK. This is what i came up with for the gear doors. Keep in mind that the computer aided design was with the computer between my ears which is old and tends to lock up a lot. So this was trial and error - mostly error but by the third change was working. The mechanism is essentially a "U" shaped wire which I made out of fairly soft 4/40 music wire. Two hardwood blocks are glued into the bottom of the wheel well and the wire is secured with nylon landing gear straps so as to be removable. Brackets are soldered to the wire in position as shown Too close to the front and there is not enough trave - too close to the center and the wheel will bind. The U is attached to the door with two 2/56 ball links connected with 2/56 all thread and attached to the door with some leftover cowl "L" brackets i had on hand. Springs are added on each side to keep the U centered and to let the doors pop open. I had to use fairly weak springs because i am using electric gear and don't want the resistance to "amp out" the cuttoff mechanism. After fiddling with it all day, it seems to work ok. I still have to glue the hinges into the wing - it's a lot easier to work with if you don't glue them in first. The dimensions of the U are : 4 1/2" across the back with 3 1/2" sides and 1" attaching arms for the LG straps.

I like what you have done. A simple mechanical driven actuation. No servos or delays to set-up or stop working. The KISS method always seems to work best for me. Thanks for posting your pics.

Thanks for the kind words. Springs still need tweaking (weakening). It's all about the spring rates. It will work fine inverted but hangs up right side up. However, gravity helps the doors open . Here she is up on her feet for the first time. First time with center wing mounted for a fit check - fits perfect. Still lots left to do - install fuel system. front gear doors, cut cowl openings etc.

Looks good. What mods did you do to the tailwheel and tailwheel doors? It looks much better.

I originally extended my tailwheel but couldn't get the doors to work properly.

I had to cut a semicircle out of each door where the wheel axel passes thru to prevent hangups. Also shortened the supplied spring by about 1/4". I'm using the electric tailwheel and it has worked without fail about a dozen times. BTW - your cowl flags are in the mail.

RE: Top Flite Giant Corsair ARF Disappeared.

I received the recommended Jtech muffler for the Corsair. I noticed in one of the exhaust stacks they have welded some sort of restrictor in the stack. Anybody else notice this and is this sort of restrictor suppose to be there. My other Jtech mufflers do not have them installed in the exhaust stack? This is on a DLE 55.

I'm running the recommended J'tech also. I don't see a restrictor in mine. Can you post a picture?

also reinforced the cowl cutouts with some carbon fiber since the f-glass is kind of thin there.

RE: Top Flite Giant Corsair ARF Disappeared.

Well, I was tired of watching the plane drag it's ass and decided to do something about it. It may not be the best solution, but I'm happy with it.

I took the tailwheel retract apart and added washers and a wheel collar between the fork and retract unit. This lowered the tailwheel 1/2". That may not sound like much, but it raised the tail of the plane by 25%. I've had trouble with the gear doors hanging-up (even in flight). I bit the bullet and cut them. The doors are solid and the edges were touched up with paint.

Thats what I did but I also restricted the tailwheel from retracting all the way. A portion of the wheel extends below the fuse when retracted giving some what of a scale appearance.

It's electric and I placed a wheel collar on the jack screw where I wanted the retract to stop. I tried to take a picture of it but I can't without taking the retract out. It's only 4 screws so I can if needed.

That's what I was looking for, an easy mod to improve the tail wheel height. The real bird sits high, the ARF doesn't sit(look) right.

You might give this a look http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/ TF 20B It's for the Giant scale Kit TF Corsair. I have one and it looks as if it will work and it has the cowl flaps but I haven't done any mounting of the engine yet.
