Cheers Casey, I could do you one!!?? heres a few pics of the finally finishd paintwork. A wash brings the details out nicely. Even though its modelled on a restored, well looked after example, muck still gets in the nooks and crannies.

Ian.

Hi Dirk, on this I used a well worn and almost smooth Scotchbrite pad, and rubbed the access away with a cotton cloth. Finally got a bit more time to finish this off (darned marionettes getting in the way again) Glassed a chunk of lead in the nose, after casting said chunk to match the nose. There is an extra cowl support and mount more than 1/2 way forward so I'm not worried in the slightest. This weight is probably nearly 2 lb which seems to be about right for the standard versions of the model. I'll get the AUW tonight.

Couldn't live with the crappy glass u/c doors after I'd foolishly fitted them, so I took them off and made some new ones, a very simple job with 1/32 ply and thick lithoplate. Anyhoo, heres a couple of pics showing the doors and retract covers etc.

Ian.

Ian,

I can only wish I could have you do me one. I don't have a problem paying for such excellent services...its the damn shipping that would kill the deal. Your mates are lucky to have you close!

Thanks for the kind words Casey, very much appreciated!!! Weighed the model, balanced and ready to go and it tips the scales at 24.5 lb, about the same as the standard ARTF so I am very pleased with that!!

Any upates Ian.......flying or otherwise?

Also a question. I am thinking of doing mine in the same scheme, seen I am across the pond. Do you have the paint colour codes for the roundels or somewhere I can get them from.
I already have a silver that I will use. Thanks in advance for any help....

I wish I had the time and patience to do the riveting like yours but the scheme change will have to do for me

Thanks Tim

Hi DB,

You are one lucky guy...... Wish I had someone that could finish mine for me like yours.

Hope all goes well for the maiden. I'm sure it will be all good. One of the guys I fly with has
one and it flys beautifully. Has a DL55 in it.

I'm going to fit a G62 with an electric start mainly as it needs the weight anyway.

Hopefully Ian can get back to me on the colours

Cheers and good flying.

Tim

Hi Tim, I can't be much help with the colours unfortunately, the paints use for the roundels on this Spitfire are simply RAF Roundel red, white and blue. I altered the colour of the blue since the Dutch used a lighter blue than RAF blue, the orange I simply mixed up with red, yellow and a bit of white. Somewhere in this thread is a link to an excellent set of walkround photos, about 200 which are a superb reference for anyone doing a Dutch Spitfire, I'll try and find the link again.

Ian.

EDIT, heres the link, enjoy!!

To Tim:
On the colours I have found this: http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazin...colours_03.htm

Ian: Lovely work! Most times I see people trying to scale-up an ARF, I think the would be better off building from plans. But this one looks like a good base model.

Regards
Lars

Well after a couple of weeks waiting for time and decent weather to coincide, the silver Spitfire took its first flights today. Hopefully pics and vid will appear shortly. No issues whatsoever, masses of power, no cooling issues, radio hatch stayed shut, canopy opens and shuts fine in flight, nothing loose or fell off!!! No trim changes with the flaps or gear down. Full flap landings are a pleasure. Happy bunny.

Ian.

Yes now that the wings are in the same location as the Fuss :''
We put her together and checked the motor, happy all was OK and placed the cowl on. Fueled her up did a Batt check and Range check all OK.

Ian took her down and taxid ready for first take off.
Up she went and I think Ian put about 1 click left Al and 1 click up Ele, tested flaps not pitching at all.
As some have shown concern about the Cowl and heat we had not issues, firts flight was up about 5 - 8 mins and then landed. We changed the amount of movement on Elev, put some gas in, checked Batts, put cannons on, Ant and started her up.
Once again up she went with no problems :af I took some pics on my phone and then did some Vid. I just need to edit it and then can put it on :af

Big thanks to Ian, job well done, pat on the back for me gettin wings and fuss in same place :''

Cheers

Beautiful and inspiring work on that plane. I'd love to see a bit more detail on your techniques, from reworking the control surfaces, your great surface detailing, how you made your strut covers, and painting. I know this question was asked once before, but I did not find an answer: What kind of silver paint finish did you use?
Thanks and congratulations,
Sam

HiChris,

Yep no heat issues

Ian assured me that all would be OK, where the exhaust stacks are he has left them open so we have exit there, I will take a photo and put on for you.

Prop is a 24 x 8 wooden.

Cheers
