Your Tiffy looks great! Excellent job!

Just re-finishing my Vailly Tempest for Top Gun 2015. It flies awesome for all of you thinking of doing the Tempest. Here is a pic of mine b4 refinish, a bit rough around the edges but still flew great. Had 12#'s of lead when I bought it!! which I have reduced to 7#'s by adding a shelf similar to yours....3w75 for power, 45ish pounds now

Wow 12lbs.... That is some weight, mine has approx 9lb up front in total even very with being very weight conscious throughout the build.

Keep us updated on the Topgun entry, thanks for the input,

Frank

Very nice Frank. I know what you mean. Too much looks like, well, too much. I think yours looks spot on. Flying will add lots more dirt and grime anyway! I have my engine issues sorted out (I hope), and should be committing aviation with mine on Friday.

Very nice kwik. That give me inspiration to fly mine. I've been having some carburettor issues, so I now have a new one installed. I will do some test runs, and hopefully fly it very soon. I'm looking forward to seeing your model after painting.

Yes, landed with 85 deg flap. It is scale max deflection I believe.

I maidened my Typhoon last night! What a great flying model. I've never flown anything this big and heavy before, so was very surprised by how gentle and honest it is to fly. I can't believe it's a 48lb model. I had some engine issues, because I was too lean and had some sagging, so immediate landings were in order. By the third flight I had the engine rich enough that the problem was gone. The first two flights were very short (3mins) because of the sagging. It was hot outside, too. Over 30C. On the third flight, I noticed my starboard main gear door fluttering badly, so I landed again. A sharp eye noticed something falling from the model, which turned out to be the door liner. It had broken loose which explains why the flimsy fiberglass door was fluttering. Anyway, don't mean to hijack the Sheriff's fine thread, but it seems to be the place to tell of Typhoon glory!

Well done Frank,..I can now relax after being on tenterhooks waiting on the carb issue to be sorted..... and sorted it is, fantastic. They fly easier than expected don't they!

Mine also requires down trim, just as yours does,

You are welcome anytime to hijack my thread anytime, the more "Typhoon Glory " the merrier I say.

A sincere well done and take a beer my friend.

Do any of you other fine Vailly Typhoon aficionados have a steerable tail wheel? I have the stock set up with the castering wheel and spring centering. It works, but I find it can get a bit squirrely on the ground sometimes.

My plan is to go for Erik Haabjoern's (Erik Håbjørn) Typhoon.

http://www.609wrsquadron.co.uk/Archi...0Haabjoern.pdf

(It isn't correct that "Haabjoern was lost on a flight from Canada in the late 1940’s". He disappeared between Greenland and Island in 1953.)

Mine is the Sierra steerable tailwheel tethered to the rudder, seems ok. I hoping to get some more airtime on her this week if the weather stays good.

I have the same tailwheel unit as you and Kwik, but for some reason how to make it steerable was never apparent to me. The way the tiller arm moves seems to make it impossible to attach pull pull lines. How did you guys go about this?
