I have just looked at mine Frank. Its on the rudder servo with pull pull wires direct to the horns on the tail gear...

Dave, the Vailly Typhoon and Fw 190 are both quite heavy. And I think that just because of this, they are easy to land with fll flaps.

Lots of other, smaller warbirds can be difficult to land; They almost have to be at a complete stop in order to descend.....I dont know, it could also be a CG issue.

Anyway, the Vaillys just want to go one way when you reduce throttle, and it is down. They land!

Even though their noses are pointed slightly upwards for a 3 point landing. I think its their weight that does the trick.

Wolperdinger, I struggled a lot to get the steering to work. Had to disassemble the yoke from the rest and use the dremel on both sides of the piano steel "wire" that is in there.

Otherwise the set screws wouldn't set properly.

Otherwise I have a servo operating one wire to each side of the tiller? Didn't see any other problems with it?

When the gear is retracted, the wires are slack.

Wolperdinger, I have a picture where you can see the steering arm sticking out on each side.

I think I cut off a bit of the tip, so it could fit inside the fuse;

Thanks for the photo. That is exactly the same as mine. I was a total fool though and assumed that the spring that centres the tail wheel was intended to do so in order that the tail wheel could be a self-centering castering unit. Instead, it has now become obvious to me that the spring is intended to keep the wheel centered when retracted, so that it extends straight and can not become caught up on the edges of the tail wheel shroud, I don't know what I was thinking! In any case, I will have to make some modifications to my tail wheel so that it is steerable. Should be fairly simple, although I have to get a new steering arm because I cut one end from mine as it interfered with my pushrod.

I used same sierra tail gear on my Vailly 90" Seafury. I filed knotches to allow the tiller arm to move further and give me more ground steering. The little spings also have a habit of falling out so I added a drop of glue to each to secure them.

Biggest headach is getting the air ram hooked up, I ended up running a long arm back to the tail gear as I could not fit the air cylinder in back there as it was a retrofit job.

Gorgeous model that Tiffy.

I have the Vailly Tempest waiting patiently to be built.

cheers

Yes, I use a long thick carbon tube for retraction. The servo is just aft of the aft wing fastening area.

Using a Hitec 7954 for tail wheel retraction.

I too used the long carbon arrow shaft, but used an air cylinder to drive it as my sequencer is air. Works well.

Very nice! I'm hoping to go out this evening with mine. Rather windy, though. What a pity the three of us can't get together with our Typhoons. An awesome sight it would be.

Oh yes, that would have been nice! But at least we can "meet" here. Internett didn't exist just a few years ago, you know.

The more that is hanging out under a Typhoon, the merrier.

Here is mine, dirty;

Very Nice!
Model weight?
Engine?
Did you modify the stance of the typhoon from the original plans or is it the gear positions shown on Valincourt plans?

Hi, no modifications made from the plans at all, gear positions are as drawn. If i did it again I would alter the tail incidence a degree or two but that's about all. The inner gear doors are made and ready to be fitted.

Regards,

Why changing the tail incidence?

Hi Kwik, mine needed a fair bit of down trim applied as did Franks for level flight. Im sure a degree or two on the tail plane would solve this. Nothing major and nothing that can't be lived with....

Okay, I see. I was quite surprised that I didn't have to trim anything. First time for me, hehe.

Regards,

Sheriff, I would very much like to have rockets on mine as well. While flying.

Are your rockets and rocket pylons from the Black Horse Typhoon, or did you actually make them yourself?

The rockets look great. I really must add some bomb racks to mine. 440sqn flew "Bombphoons".

I have made the rockets and pylons myself but they are only for static,. I made a balsa head then dropped it in melted candle wax until the wax had hardened, removed and cast all eight with fibre glass, so they are very heavy...... I wasn't aware black horse did them, I will search because it would look much cooler with them fitted whilst airborne.

Ah, you did a good job there. Well done!!

The Black Horse is 2 m wingspan, so perhaps the rockets are too small. And yet, maybe not?

Firing rockets or dropping bombs is something that makes this hobby even more fun!

Tiffie had three more flights today, no issues at all. Engine is coming on strong, just starting to prop howl after 10 flights on the DA at 30:1 mix.

I am hoping to install the inner gear doors soon and would prefer to use other methods rather than air pistons, anybody any ideas?
