Vailly Typhoon Build

Hello Sheriff you did very good project and pretty nice warbird!
The inner gear doors...Did you think about some small servo and any servo gear door sequencer?
I use the turnigy one:

It is possible to use it with air retract.

If you use servos, you must be careful not to let the doors hit anything in any of its positions. It will otherwise be working all the time, and drain your batteries.
I have Unitract gear on my mains. They are to weak to retract them properly. So I have to roll over to get them up......
I sendt a mail asking Unitract whether I can upgrade with cylinders of slightly larger diameter.
There was no answer.

Hi Sheriff: I used 2 HS-225 servos to operate my inner doors. I modified one servo to be reverse direction, and then used an electronic "Servo Stretcher" to make the servos rotate 180°. I also used an electronic sequencer to sequence the doors. I wanted to use 180° retract servos, but they wouldn't work properly with the sequencer. At the end of last season, one of the servos quit on me (fortunately the gear was already down), and after landing I made a plan to convert to air pistons. So, I bought all the air stuff I needed, and then a friend came over and said "Why not just ditch the sequencer, use retract servos, and put them on a different channel and use the "Sequencer" in you head? So change 3 to plan B was initiated, and I am now going to try that method.

Frank, I suppose Mirce show in this thread: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-w...step-step.html Show how does it work with air retract.
Another way is system of free door on the hinge. Here are two solutions.

More sorties today with the tiffie. I am pleased with the DA engine, it is pure adrenaline. Motor has now had 20 sessions at approx 10 mins a piece and the power is simply "awesome" with bags to spare.
I did meet a 1/3 scale DR1 whilst out..... must of time warped..

Fantastic, Sheriff! I'm now at about the same number of flights as you. My ZDZ 90 is also really coming into its own, and I am super happy with it. I must say that my last flight was a huge thrill, as I was able to demonstrate the model for the actual pilot who flew it in WW2! Harry Hardy is now 94 years old, and this past Tuesday he came over from Vancouver and I was able to put on a flight for him. It was a real honour and pleasure to be able to do so, and to chat with Harry. He isn't shy to share his experiences. To hear him recount the tale of the day that he had to bail out of Pulverizer II was really something. I had him sign the inside of one of the inner gear doors. Nothing like having your model endorsed!

Wow.... what a story Frank. To meet the pilot and to have the airplane signed is breath taking, I take my hat off to you. I am pleased the display flight went well for you, we are both aware the Typhoon is not a model for the faint hearted. I should imagine Mr Hardy was quite excited and enthusiastic to see a flying replica done so nicely.
This is stuff that dreams are made of.
A grand well done.

Good to see that you are doing so well, guys!
I had the second and third flight with mine the other day.
Damaged the wing on the third flight, but the second one was a blast;
(Don't forget sound ON....)

Very happy.
This was Maiden Flight Mk II, you could say; First flight in full war-paint.
The damage on the third flight was instigated by problems getting the wheels up, and then down again.
So, to get rid of the gear problem, I will try to replace the Unitract air cylinders with Lado 666 Jumbo units.
The rest of the Unitract gear will be kept as is.

This past weekend I took the Typhoon to Wings & Wheels at the Campbell River BC airport. In attendance was a Spitfire Mk IX (in Czech markings, Prekin!). I have a friend who is restoring a full size Typhoon, and he asked me to join him and his display. He had the cockpit section of the aircraft there. Anyway, when I first got there, it was just me and the Spitfire in the hangar, so I posed for some photos. I like the shot with the bad lighting. The colours really blend together, and even the light reflecting off the wing root fillet looks the same! It was a fun event, and my voice was quite hoarse after 8 hours of answering questions. Kermit Weeks even showed up! He was in town as he was helping to fly the Martin Mars from Port Alberni to Osh Kosh. Very interesting chatting with him. This model certainly has brought me into contact with some interesting people.
