Casey,

Forgot to point out that the Isreali bird has the fixed tail wheel and pointed rudder that you were looking for earlier as well.

Hmmm yes....it is nice. And I must say I'm tempted. Kinda has a "race" theme going, not really my style, but it does as Chad pointed out have the configuration I'm looking for, and a simple paint job...

Hmmmmmm

thank you Chad!

More to think about lol

I figured they would sell quick...that was a great deal for sure.

My motor arrived! What a MONSTER! I think I'll have plenty of room up front. Now I can think about the mounting and firewall. Here is the weight of the motor, my 10 cell battery's, and the 8 cell....not as much weight lost in the battery's as I thought, oh well.

Here is a shot of the belly tank that I got from Jose also...a very nice one off! And the tail feather cores that Chad supplies with his cockpit kit.

Brad you asked about what size prop I might spin earlier. I'll start with a 20-11, as suggested by Ron101(he has this setup in his GS P51).

I forgot about this vid...If I remember right from his build,(on another site) he's using a 24" 4 blade from solo...not that I will, but it does look great!

So I'm out working on my 109F, and my 4 year old daughter Bella comes out and see's the Spitfire fuse sitting here bare. She come's over to me and say's, "Daddy, this plane is missing something...paint! I think it should be pink!".....

So...I am now considering it...geesh! Women.....

LoL

Got out the plans and all the stuff to start the tail feathers tomorrow. I'll jump to a build on Chads cockpit set after that, as some bulkheads need placed early on in the build.

Ok, I considered it...and in the process this caught my eye.....whatcha think Brad?

I could do it with Model Masters Chrome Silver. I've seen methods of painting different panels, different shades first. Then applying the Chrome Silver paint, and bunishing it out with steel wool with great results. I think it gives a very realistic looking aluminum finish, a somewhat oxidized look. Perhaps this is the way I will go as I've always wanted to try this method. It is a simple scheme with a pointed tail(and as I'm not planning on competition with this one)I could cheat and have a non-retracting tail wheel.

does that look like Captain Morgan on that plane to anyone else.....LOL

I'm not 100% certain but you may find that the RAAF Spits were doped silver rather than natural aluminum finish Casey. Of course, if you're not competing then it may not matter to you anyway. Painted or NMF I think it is an attractive scheme but overall silver airplanes tend to dissappear on me in flight so I try to avoid them!

Ok, since Chad pointed out the problems with seeing the all natural planes. I've nixed that idea, but come to a fairly good conclusion I think...I'll stick with my original scheme of "Fargo Express", only with a non-retracting tail wheel.(I reallly want to keep this one simple and light) If I do ever choose to try to compete with this spit, the only thing I would need to change the tailwheel to a retracting type.

Final answer!

now on to building!

Hi guys, the RAAF Spitfires like this one Casey shows is actually NMF with silver doped/painted tail feathers. This was probably an easier surface to look after in the tropics and the requirement for camouflage at this stage of the conflict was minimal as Japanese air power where the RAAF were able to operate was almost non existent.

I have heard that 'silver' models are easy to loose sight of so reckon your 'Fargo Express' is a great choice Case.

With my model, Jose says everything is ready to go except that Shinden do not have my retracts in stock so are waiting on those. Just my luck, probably the first time they have ever been out of Spitfire retracts.
Any way, hopefully it will all be on it's way soon. Postage is now sitting at $550. Lucky I love Spitfires ay?

Cheers,

Brad

Sir, you must love Spits! I must admit, they are my favorite of all the allied planes flown. I know most of us "yanks" would say that the Mustang is the "sexiest" plane out there, but the spit does it for me...Now to put on some Phineus and Ferb and do some work in the shop! On my Spitfire-inator!!!

Yep, just love 'em.

Jose has emailed me saying that my kit is now complete and so it should be on it's way soon.
This is great news as I will be in Perth where it will arrive in country soon so I will be able to pick it up with my new 'Warbird Trailer' and bring it 1800Kms home up north.
This will save me at least $150 in transport. I will be down there to participate in my first warbird event with a couple of my models.

Cheers,

Brad

I've been thinking about powerplants for this plane. Some guys seem able to come out with an AUW of under 20lbs, others much higher. I'm considering either electric or DLE 30. Any thoughts on if the 30 would be enough? I've got one in an 11 lb Yak 54 and it hauls it out of sight straight up. I wish there was a DLE 40.... If not then I'll be leaning towards a DLE 55.

Yes mate thanks. I am very excited about it and it is motivating me to do many things.

Hey Daddysam I am thinking at least a 55cc so I can swing a 3 blade prop close to scale size. Well a bit smaller but a big one any way. Got a 22x10. Scale size is about a 25".
If I was not concerned about prop size I probably would have gone with a ZDZ 40. The way I am going to do my Spitfire all of my engine and spark plug and cap will be in-cowl. I am making the shorter nosed Mk V so weight will help.
Please keep us informed of your decision and good luck.

Good news is that Chad has a cockpit for me and it will be on it's way soon. Will get it before the kit I reckon.

Cheers,

Brad

My kit is one it's way!![8D]
Jose says I should receive an email from Fedex soon so I am waiting and looking each day.
As soon as I get the kit I will make a decision on the engine.

Man I remember what it was like waiting on my Yellow Spitty now.

Cheers,

Brad

GUYS,,,, I GOT MY SPITFIRE!!!![X(][sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Jose said he posted it on the 6th on this month. Wow ,,,, 10 days and I live a long way away.
I got home from a terribly hot day at work but sparked right up when I saw a big box on the back patio. On inspection I saw it was my Spitty and the box looked all in one piece so that was a good start. After a quick "hello" to my girls and one game of 'Elephants' (a long story) my daughter and I opened it up. She loves paper and boxes so had a ball finding all the bits and pieces and pulling the paper out. All was in good order with a parts count and nil damage inspection. The transport box is a piece of art. Very sturdy and packed and cushioned well. The fuselage is also an art work in itself. Beautiful glass work and very light. I got the laser cut wood kit but have not opened that. Got the chin scoops and radiator etc, etc. Now I have to get the rest of the balsa and ply and strip and sheeting. Man I thought I would have lots of time to organise that before the kit got here.[X(]
The Shinden retracts are very nice as well being some of the smoothest I have felt I reckon.

OK, so that is enough for tonight,,, you might have picked up that I am pretty excited and very happy. Well I am.
I would like to thank Jose for getting my aeroplane to me in good order.

Cheers,

Brad
