Casey
Hi Casey, I got this one along with batteries for my glider and a few other bits and pieces.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=17982

I still have not decided on batteries for the Spitty. 5000 10s for sure but what ones I dont know.

Cheers,

Brad

Hello Brad, I recently got the 160 amp delux to run the rotomax 1.60 and the esc was not working properly. It would not go past 75% and would shut off until throttle was reduced. I went throug all the electric forums on all the sites andtried everything but no luck. I then got the Turnigy K Force 120amp esc from H.K. and worked spot on out of te box. I wasted over $100- on the Dlux, I should have read all the reviews and feedback on the bottom of the product page. I hope yours works out. Cheers and im looking forward to the build. Trent. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...hless_ESC.html

Trent sorry to hear about your bad luck with the controller but good to hear from you again. Did you drop off the planet for a while??
Yes I think it is a bit of 'pot luck' with the good ol' HK but I am willing to try this one I have picked out. I should have waited until Hobby Lobby had the Castle Creations 120 ICE in stock and ordered it as well as my motor as they do not have it at the moment and if I wanted to get it while the Aussie dollar is so good I would have had to get it from Towers and pay an extra $70 to get it here as this is what the motor cost to post from Hobby Lobby. Man postage from the States used to be good. Now it is putting things out of reach again and this really sux.[&o]

So steady steady with this one mate, I'll have to check your latest on your threads. Good luck,

Brad

Hi Brad, I have seen a lot of negative stuff about the CC Ice esc on line andi am unsure if it has been resolved??? I have been very quiet re warbird building and even moreso with posting anything. I have been assembling a Pilot 40% Super Decathlon with a DLE 111 up front which has been slowly progressing. I have been playing aroung with Plug and mold making with the aim in producng a 85" P-51 mustang. I have completed the horizontal stab and covered the balsa with Aluminium panels with simulated rivets from punched brass tubing which has been fun and a great learning curve. I have not decided if I will do the aluminium panels and simulated rivets on the fuse or panel lines only?? Keep on trucin and lets see some building on that spitty. Here are a few pics of the molds and plug. Cheers Trent.

Man you have been busy. Love the look of those moulds. Got right into that ay? I have not had the guts to try mould anything with my gear. Been busy too.
As far as the ESC goes, yes maybe it was not my greatest modelling decision so I'll just have to see how it pans out.

Cheers,

Brad

Did they send it Priority or Express? Otherwise I see that shipping should have been about $30.00 US for a first class 3 pound package, based on the HL site saying that motor weighed 35oz. Express was $75 and Priority was $60ish.

Castle Creations has fixed all the ESC problem they had. They had a recall to fix ones sold, and now offer the V2 or version 2 of their ESC's...

Never had a problem with mine, and I have 5 of them...all are CC 120HV V2.

my first esc was from HK....it lasted about long enough to test it, then straight to the trash.

Casey

Brad, I personally don't try to go a lesser route with the electronics...I tried, but it never has panned out, so now I buy the "good stuff" and all works like advertized.

Hi JeffH, the only options I had for postage were the $70 for UPS or $125 or so with FEDEX. This was to Western Australia. I so wish it was only $30.

Cheers Casey, yes I usually go with the good stuff but like I said things just were not lining up.

OK, just a quick update to keep things ticking along here. I received my (rather large) motor and speed controller. This motor even looks like it can spin my 3 blade prop even just sitting in it's box Looks great.
I am still r e a l l y angry that I had to pay $70 postage for this to arrive to me but I will get over it. I will not buy off Hobby Lobby again because of this unless it is small stuff with reasonable postage.
Next is to get into the plans and order my balsa. I will soon buy batteries also so I can do some testing.
I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Brad

The 5345 has maximum of 75A
the minimum you need is 20C (with some extra buffer)

So 40C are more than adequate

90C are for EDFs

Please correct me if I´m wrong

Brad,
I know a lot of folks swear by the Turnigy NanoTech batteries. I've had one nanotech and six of the regular Turnigy batteries that I use in my electric heli (TREX 500). The only battery to go bad was the nanotech. Just a thought.

This is correct
More C the battery has more peak consuption it can provide without demaging it.
Just 90C seems to me bit too high. It is 450A you are not able to get more than roughly 180A trough 6mm bullet type connectors or 150 trough 5,5mm

BTW guys try to get the anti spark connectors from Jeti, they really work
I made a reduction 6-5,5-5,5-6mm as I do have 6mm on the large packs

This is more good info Gents. Thank you very much. I'll look for the Jeti anti spark arrestors.

With all this talk on antispark, is there a difference between a regular small size connector soldered to the + lead and the special one shown in previos link?

I understand lol , but that is why i went with Deans years ago , so now I am flying the bigger packs and mortors and when I have two packs together and I go to connect , I do my best to line it all up , incert and the spark is small but still exist .
I would like a simple fix but not one that means changing connectors

This one you just add in line mate, no changing of connectors required.

Ok gents, I received my spark arrestors in the mail and have ordered the balsa wood and hard wood for the rest of the build. I have been reading about building the wing and it looks (pretty) straight forward but don't leave me yet,,,, there will be questions.
I am so wanting to get a Solo prop like one of the guys on another forum but the only one I can see is a wide chord type on Solo's web site. Does any one know the info for an acceptable 3 blade prop for a Mk V Spitty from Solo?
I'll keep gathering stuff for the build and just go ahead and surprise you one day with some progress.

Cheers,

Brad
