Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi WBG,
I would recommend going with a ducted fan. They are much lighter, and are more efficient at moving air, and can be controlled with an inexpensive ECS. The one installed is a GWS DF. I wonder if this fan lets me call my bird a hybrid?

Jet22b,
Never thought the squadron would grow this fast, but it is nice to see how many pilots like the Spitfire.
As for the TF Spitfire kit. A friend needed a 2.4 RX and no longer wanted the kit, and my boy wanted to build an airplane, so the timing was right. He has helped build my stuff, and we have worked on his P-51B together, but those were built by a builder/flyer friend of ours. This one we will go from start to finish. Here are some pics of his other projects.
1. Learning how to fiberglass. 2. Our Builder/Flyer friend Ray with Jacob 2 years ago with his B model P-51. 3. His P-51B and P-40 in glass 4. Learning to shoot Water Enamels.
5, 6, 7 fabing parts, 8 helping me at the field, and 9 When he is not building he is working on his jeep.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
I was asked about my annual Warbird event by a member of the Brotherhood, so I thought I would share the info with our squadron. Everyone here is welcome to attend.
Warbirds Over Oklahoma is an annual Warbird event I hold each year. The 2012 event will be the 8th year for the event and will be held at a new location this year just West of Oklahoma City in El Reno, OK. The field is a city owned site and the home of the Mustang Field Flyers. They have a 650’ x 50’ Paved runway, and are putting in a parallel grass which will also be 650’ x 50’.
To keep up with all plans and changes please see www.warbirdsoverok.org
For other info on event fly-bys of full scale Warbirds see www.oklahomamuseumofflying.org
Weather permitting we will again have fly-bys by Miss America the Reno Air Race P-51 during our official Saturday morning event opening. One year they supported me with their AD-5 Skyraider, an L-39, and Miss A. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TYSekDbaOo

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Here are some of the most well known Spitfires, all from Duxford from my visit in 2006. Derek beat me with posting the Mk24 but I do love this shot so I post again.
I visited the museum with my wifes uncle who is actually quite old and he got talking to another older gent who just happened to be a curator of the museum so old Uncle Rod surprised me with a 'behind the scenes' tour of the maintenance hanger and seeing though it was deep winter a lot of Spitfires were at home getting some maintenance. We were the last to leave again.
Cheers,
Brad

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hey, this looks like a really fun thread! So far my only fighter experience has been on the Park Flyers & Backyard Flyers Forum front. The recent battle damage to my Spit Mk IX has been repaired and as opportunity presents itself the glory of the conquest of the sky will be resumed.
Commander Sakai has been very aggressive in the air recently; shooting me down in flames and imprisoning me under deplorable conditions. I am looking forward to taking him on in futute engagements and returning the favor.
In the meantime, I am really enjoying responding to ParkZone's order to "Take Back the Sky" flying every fighter plane model PZ has marketed since the brushed Mk II Spitfire. I just ordered a new motor for it after finding a super Lipo battery that makes it fly so well that you would swear the plane is brushless.
So, Aim High, Fly, Win!
Out.

Yes, please induct me into the SQUADRON! Target fixation, etc., must have caused a situational awareness glitch on my last post, sorry.
Out.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
"By far one of the most famous fighter planes of all times the Spitfire formed the backbone of the British Air Force during World War II. Developed in various versions from 1936 to 1947, it established its fame especially during the Battle of Britain thanks to its manoeuvrability, high speed and heavy armament which made it one of the most effective planes of the time. Starting from 1944 with the 20th group of the 51st Wing, it was one of the first allied planes to enter service in Italy with the co-belligerent Air Force which had the MK V and IX versions. In 1946, other MK IX Spits, were put in service with the 5th and the 51st wings of the Italian Air Force. The Spit on exhibit was originally flown by the Polish Group of the RAF and participated in the D-Day operations in the invasion of France. After that it was handed over to the Italian Air Force and used until 1950."
