hello Hal, I just pack them in between layers of foam in the nose, the foam and fuel tank hold them in place, if you notice I have moved the fuel tank back to over the CofG point, bit of mucking around with the position of the servos, but it gives more room behind the firewall for the batteries and ignition unit, gets all weight as far forward as I can, plus it helps a bit with ground handling, (nose overs)

Hi Brothers;
Well today I sent a email to Troy Built Models about the ESM Retracts for the Spitfire and see if they can help!! I need some info or help on others retracts that will fit this bird. Electric or air will be okay. Like I said before, this was my first pair of electric landing gear and if Troy Build can replace the control box and the system work, that will be okay too!!
Thanks again for any input!!!

BTW: Update on the Top Flite Spitfire kit build:
Tomorrow I will be taking the Spit over to one of my club member house so his son can look it over and see if want to paint it for me. His son has a paint shop for cars and do some very sweet work. He have done some of the other members planes and they have came out very nice. If he do take on the job, I will post pictures to let the Brotherhood see his work!!!

Hi Brothers;
Update on the ESM retracts for the 72.5" Spit. I receive a new control box from Troy Build model and the gears are working!!! I like the way they open and close. To me it look like there is about .2 sec between the up and down on the gear cycle between the left and right main. I am happy now and hope to start the build in 3 months. Stay tune!!!

tevans55,
Did Troy Built ever come through on the wings for the B-25??

Sonny
Haven't heard a word from Troy Built. I guess I will have to try to call them and reference my emails. I really despise using to different communications systems when one should suffice. If they had asked me to call while we were meeting in Toledo I would have been happy to call. They asked me to send a photo so I did and now I have to follow up with a call. Oh well, nothing difficult is ever easy!

Old Scale Guy
It was great to meet you also at the Mint Julep. I always enjoy meeting the guys I talk to on RCU. I'm also enjoying the hat around the field.

I'm wondering if the Spitfire Brotehrhood can help me ID this kit. I was given this Spitfire a couple of years ago and what you see is all that I got. I would like to put it back in the air but I'll need to build a new wing and cowl.
Here are some key measurments.
Fuselage length is 48 3/8" from the front to the end of the rudder.
Wing saddle is 14 1/4"
Horizontal stabilizer widthis 20"
Vertical stabilizer height is 10"
I'm told it had an OS 91FS on it.

Thanks for your help.

Dimensions are very close to a Top Flite, except the rudder is 9". Do you know what the wing span should be?
Edit: Now that you were able to post the pictures, it is not a Top Flite but you could possibly use the Top Flite wing at least as reference.

I was thinking that itcould be one of the older top flite kits, I was told that it was built some time in the 80's. Who else may have kitted a Spitfire in the .60 size range around that time?

Dave Platt or Pica (same kit, different manufacturers) would be my guess.

After doing some more research, I believe it is the Pica 1/6th scale kit. I ran across a build log with photos and the engine compartment and cowl look nearly identical to my fuse. I also ran across an ad from 2009 on rcg fora partial kit that was missing the fuse but had everything else for $50 + shipping.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll now start looking for a set of plans or wingkit.

All I can say is: "Wow"
That is huge!
Bet there is not many of these around.
Shure would be nice to see it in action like a couple vids that are on youtube.
Somehow I think that my 1/4 scale cub is not able to compete.

Thanks for sharing.

Andreas
Happy building & flying

KaP2011

That Spitfire fuse is a Platt, I know, I had one. Although the Pica and Platt are one and the same I believe.

As far as the lower cowl goes, it was all made of wood and held on with screws at the bottem.
I had a OS90 and a Webra 60 in this plane , it flew great.

I even think I may have the plans for the wing, they will be very beat up as I got them second hand, but I can look if your are interested.

Thanks Tom!You bet I'm interested.

I've been drooling over the kit on RCG but the only way I could come up with the money for it would be to sell some of my engines.

I bought a Dave Brown spinner for the DLE 30 on my Spitfire. Does anyone know where I can find a 4mm x 110mm bolt? The bolt that came with it is too short.

Thanks for any help.

Did you get the extended length prop shaft adapter? (3" long) A long bolt by itself is very dangerous, specially at 110 mm.

Cheers,

It is a gas engine. I can find only adapter nuts for the threaded shafts of glow engines.

KAP2011Don't know about Pica and Platt being the same, take Tom's word for it. Measured my Spitfire, same measurements as yours. Mine is a Pica kit, (kit RC-1, plans and design by Jon Tanger) Unfortunately no plans to send you, just torn pieces with the Pica logo and dimensions. Here are some pictures, I'd take the chin cowl off but that is really a pain, looks just like yours though.Just had mine to the field today flying. I got it at a swap meet nearly built. Had an epoxy glass covering of some sort on it. Painted it with Warbird colors. OS 91 4 stroke turning a 13" two bladed prop, retracts Rom Air (they're over 40 years old). Heavy (glass and paint), and she flies great, realistic maneuvers. Need to paint the spinner sea foam and try a three bladed prop.Good luck, will be looking for your success. #37

Sorry Hal, Ioverlooked the DLE 30 part. I don't know of anyone that makes an adapter for a Dave Brown spinner and that engine as normally the backplate would be drilled to accept the bolts and sheet metal screws used to attach the cone to the backplate.

Cheers,
