Had a great outing yesterday with four sorties flown on the Hangar 9 Spitfire.
It's amazing...every time she is in the air everybody just stops and watches.

Andreas
Happy building & flying.

Thanks everyone, it would not be a brotherhood without everyone involved. Maybe all our members can post some updates about their Spitfires.

facia, good looking plane.

Hmmm...the Pica Spit I am struggling ( to do it right) with won't be ready this year. Kind of modifying the tail surfaces to more approach scale and very seriously considering mechanical gear - have two retract servos to make it happen I think.

Question for the Brotherhood:
As everyone know I have a Troy Built 72.5" Spitfire on the build table. I am thinking very hard of going with Robart Hinges and not the CA hinges. The question is: will this be a good or bad move??
Thanks for any input!!

Hi Sonny, personally on a nice scale model i go with Robart, Klett or Dubro hinges. On a sport scale or sport model i use CA hinges which have proven to work out very well. With non CA hinges there is also less chance of problem with glue on the finished surfaces. I always use 30 minute epoxy on non CA hinges, but that could open up another can of creeping crawling little critters....

Hi O.S.G;
Thanks for the input. I just return home from my local hobby shop and the owner, ( who is also a member of my club ), said the same thing you just posted. I think I will stay with the CA hinges and don't start any problem down the road. One thing I do love about this plane is the pull-pull system for the rudder and elevator!! If I remember right, the full scale Spit's have this type of set-up!.
Again, thanks for the input!!

Not all CA hinges are made the same! Radio South sells a very good, heavy-duty CA hinge. I think Tower carries them. I have used them in up to 40cc engine equipped planes with no failures.

Lifer;
This is why I went to my local hobby shop today, to pick up some better CA hinges, but he was out of stock and his next order will not be in until next week. I did not like the ones that can with the arf. They may be good, but, I am running a 36cc gas engine in this plane.
Thanks for the input!!!

Everyone knows you use canopy glue on nylon hinges for the strongest bond. Boy did you open the can all the way up this time! LOL

By the way I hope you are able to come down to Warbirds over Louisville, Oct 12 and 13. There will be a few Spitfires there this year also.

Chad I like your comments about the Top Flite ARF (page 106) and also help me to decide the way to go if I want one model in order to fly before I get my design ready, could you please comment about the Ziroli Spitfire Scale and if you can about the Brian Taylor 1/5.3 Scale?, I was doing some reviews at the Brian Taylor and I think is the closest to the real.

Thanks in advance

Hi Jetjockey, are you sure the vertical stab is from a Spit ? It looks different...

Landed hard on a very squishy grass runway and ripped out a retract. again. I think this is the 4th time, twice for each side.

I don't deserve a spitfire... (I swear, it wasn't THAT hard a landing...)

Sonny, strongly advise you avoid the ESM tail surface hardware as it is not up to the task. I personally would go with 4/40 carbon pushrods for both and a high torque 88oz class digital servo servo to maximize surface control of flutter. I like the DS-821 and the Fut S3152. If you want to stay with pull/pull, then please invest in the Du Bro 2/56 or 4/40 pull sets (4/40 definitely for the elevator). Also, I would be very careful with the mfr indicated CG. Seems too far aft to me, and ESM is notorious for this. I'd start at 25% of root chord for the maiden and move back later if you want. I have kept my Spits at 25% and they fly great. Also, reduces balooning with the split flaps, as does running at least 60 deg full flap. The real ones came in with almost 90deg.! Marc - Spitfire brother #147

Sorry to hear that Dave.
Is this on your Kyosho 50?
What landing gear are you using?
Maybe the retracts are too stiff and transfer the shock right into the retract mount. I love my robart oleos, Very forgiving and I fly off of grass as well.
I am using the e-flite 60-120 electric retracts on my Hangar 9 Spit.
My landings are far from perfect. :-( , but no problems after initial nose overs so far.
Hope you are able to fix it.

Andreas
