Default RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)

Our fighter squadron of Spitfires has now grown to 70.5 pilots in the Brotherhood[sm=shades_smile.gif]

If there are any other .5 Spitfire kids out there, let me know. Making them a small part of what you do can make a big difference.

She's in paint! Pictures as promised.

Disregard the wrong spinner shape. I have the correct one coming any day now from my pattern. A true Mk 1 shape.

Might have some to sell. PM me if interested. It will be a limited supply.

More pics to come soon.

You always do great work Chuck but the Spit is particularly nice. I am a bit biased so it might have something to do with the subject matter but that is a great looking model. Can't wait to see it all finished up. You just know it's going to fly great too!

jet22b,

I am glad you mentioned that. I have been thinking since our flying season is in sight we should be cleared for the option to plan a Spitfire Brotherhood Squadron remote sortie. We can all pick a three day timeframe consisting of a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday that we all can go fly our Spitfires. We can capture ourselves and flights on photos and videos, and afterward I can gather them all up and produce a squadron video for us to load on RCU and You Tube.

Everyone start sending 2 or 3 possible dates that work for you, and I will catalog the dates and see what works for the squadron.

Hey Brothers,

Been contemplating engine choices for my Dynaflite Spitfire and thought I'd check here to see of suggestions.

Got a RCS140, MVVS26 and a Saito150 on hand without a mount . . . . . any ideas, comments or suggestions appreciated.

Strictly Sport Scale, altho I'll probably use retracts . . . . and mabey flaps.

Many Thanx

Mine`s pretty much a scratchbuild loosely based on the Dynaflite outline. OS 1.08 engine and Century jet retracts ( that work right way `round) It`s never tipped on its nose landing yet. It`s at least six years old now. Still airworthy but hasn`t had an airing in ages - must rectify that ...

Can I, can I join the Spitfire brotherhood too? I really like Spitfires, that’s why I have five of them ranging from 39” to 89” WS. My latest is the TF 63” WS Spitfire kit, covered with flat Tan and Olive drab Monokote and fitted with robart air retracts, powered by a Saito FG-20, 4 cycle gas engine, all up weight is 9lbs 8oz.

>>

The only problem I encountered during the build was matching the paint of the cowl, canopy etc., with the Monokote covering. Unfortunately Lustrekote no longer makes matching Tan and Olive drab paint. I had to mix paint to match the Monokote colors. With the naked eye it looks like a very close match, but when a digital photo is taken the color difference stands out. I still think it looks good, it’s a Spitfire!!

Concerning engine choices, I like the Saito 150 as an option too.

However the 2 others may serve you well too.

I figure you are referring to the MVVS26cc Gas. Years ago I had an MVVS 26 glow on a Morris Fun-Fly, and it was a powerhouse. If the gas is as reliable and strong, it would really make the Dynaflite Spitfire cruse.

Now as for the RCS 140/22cc Gas I am not familiar with this engine.

1. So I ask, do you want to rid yourself of a glow driver, electric starters (possibility), and 15 to 20 dollar a gallon fuel and have the field convenience of gas?

2. Or, are you flying other glow aircraft that voids the first question?

For me, I am slowly converting to gas for the fuel savings and the field convenience. With the market filling with low cost reliable smaller gas engines, this is becoming more affordable.

Hey All,

Thanx Flyntruk & Warbirdrcer for the responses, most all do love the 4-strokes, and i certainly agree. Most videos I've seen of full scale, the Saito would better match the sound.

Glad to hear of your experience with the MVVS glow, believe the gasser might be a little less, but understand it is still a Hoss! Think the RCS is actually a MOKI in deguise . . . very fuel frugal, but . . . smaller.

In that size range am trying to mostly stay with gas, altho that doesn't rule out putting on a CH ignition & running gas or E85 thru the Saito.

Again thanx much for your input, guess I'll check to see which will fit better under the cowl

jet22b,

I wish I had the resources and time to travel, that would be great. This is why I recommended we pick a 3 day timeframe, all travel to our local fields, shoot some photos and videos, and report back to this thread with our remote sortie fly-in results. Consider it a multi continent sortie, and we all have one mission to fly our Spitfires at least once during the selected 3 day mission.

However flytruk, if anyone would would like, I invite all to attend my annual warbird fly-in here in oklahoma. For info see: www.warbirdsoverok.org

Thoughts??

ForcesR,
I just order this one from Tower Hobbies http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXHU87&P=ML and looking forward to building it. The last time I build a kit was in 1992. I am way over due!!! As for power I may go with gas or a nice four stroke, but that is down the road.

flyntruk,
I agree with you on a central location!!
