RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
I got mine at Hobby Town, but HH was advertising that price...........unfortunately, most places are now sold out of them. I couldn't believe it when the owner of my local Hobby Town offered it to me for that price; he had two. I bought one and the guy behind me bought the second one on the spot. Such a great warbird, It's interesting why they would be discontinuing it.

Dang folks, this Spitty goes quickly. I should have the wing ready to paint with control surface control horns installed, servos mounted and gear installed in under 6 hours, leaving just the gear doors to fiddle with. I wish I hadn't waited so many years to get started on it. HAving the gear mounted I went on to install the control horns.
The pictures are in order of:
1. The manual has you lay out some tape and lines to mark where the flaps and aileron control horns go. it gives you all the dimensions.
2. The control hornes are provided in the kit. All you need to do is break them apart and scuff them for installation. I also drilled a small hole to act as a rivet with the epoxy
3. Using a Dremmel tool with a roto-zip bit, I make the 1/8 x 5/8 inch pocket, about 1/4 inch deep into the aileron.
4. Leaving the tape on, I filled the pocket with 5 min epoxy mixed with milled glass and let it set-up. After cured I used a Zona saw to clean up the glue area.
5. Flap is layer out and marked the same way, except the horn it to protrued with about a 1/4 inch showing on the inside of the flap pocket. Tack CA the horn in and then make
up a small fillet of 5 min epoxy with milled glasss mixed in.
6. Both wings had the hornes installed in umder an hour.
Next I will get the servo pockets cut in and servos mounted.

Played racquetball alst night at 8pm, so didn't get much done on the Comp-ARF Spitty. I was able to get the servo pockets all measured out and marked per the instruction manual. About 45 minutes here. Then I went back and worked on the Ki-45 a bit

Jeff,
Question...are you married? LOL
I am and I have to hide my free time as work. If the wife finds out I have some free time to work on a plane (she dont consider that "real" work) then she brings out the dreaded HONEY DO list.
The spit is looking good.
I like the carf stuff, but, too pricey for me. I got this old CJM lead sled that Im gonna stick with for now .
Just bout done with the Yak 9 build. Ill put a picture or two up when done. Maybe they might have flown missions together with the Spitfires since tech...they were allies????

Yes Noticed TOP FLITE will be comming out with their version, my concern on this would be if better to go with Monokote covering of the TOP FLITE and (deal with Wrinkles) or if better on Fiberglass from ESM 50 version.
I know for a fact the TOP FLITE is really excelente quality and the components firs class, but then again ESM 72.5 and the 50 look promesion with that fiberglass finish (Very Realistic ). I haven been looking for sometime on the ESM 72.5 Version which would go nicely with a SAITO 1.25 that I have sitting on a shelf. Still undecided if I should go up to 50 cc looks beautiful on that Video..

I have both the H9 Spitfire and the ESM 72.5 Spitfire. They are both great flyers and I recommend them both. I have no experience of the ESM 50size.
Cons with the ESM is the building manual and some of the building solutions. You need to use your own head to build it. The hardware is crap and needs to be changed. Pros are the flying characteristics and the finish. Personally I would not put the Saito 125 in the ESM, rather a Saito 180-220, due to power and weight. I use the OS 200 and ended up with an additional 400 grams up front.
Cons with the H9 Spitfire is the shiny appearance, flap installation and the landing gear (to week for a bumpy grass field). Pros are the building manual, easy assembly, the hardware kit is okay (not perfect) and the flying characteristics. I would use the Saito 125 in this bird with a 3-blade 15x7. I have an OS-110FS with a 3-blade 14x7.
Hope you find the information useful

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
I dont have any experience with the spitfire spring airs, but, Ive used them in other planes with mixed results. Seems with the planes with shorter struts, they work well. Planes with longer struts like the P51, have had issues with them coming down in a high stress turn or dive or any maneuver that puts alot ot G's on the airframe. Thats my only issues I have had with them. I have a set right now thats going in an F20 jet I have. The plus is, if anything goes wrong, they come down automatically

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Left wing panel is framed up far enough to remove from the building board. The frame up went well, i did replace some of the wood due to weight and hardness of what was supplied in the kit. A couple of things i did that varies from the instructions was to add the shear webs prior to the sub leading edge, that allowed easier glueing of the shear webs to the spars. Secondly i cut the top spar about 3/4 way through at the outer three rib bays to allow the spar to bend downwards into the ribs without adding a lot stress, after the wing panel was removed the board i added thin ca to the cut areas. I hope that is clear enough to make sense. On to the right panel after a couple of "honey do" items are finished....

Steve,
That was a very smart move to add the shear web all the way to the tip. I did the same thing and I was happy I did!! Just finish packing the SUV for a day of flying. We have blue sky and a temp of 47 and lots of sun!!!
Keep the up dates coming and I hope you can get some flying in today!!!
