   Radford .. congrats on the  90 kyosho.. I'm currently building one my self,  very rare bird this one, as it is no longer being made , and no spare parts that I know of . Seen video of them flying they look nice .. Mine is being powered by a Saito  120 inverted with Pitts muffler  About 5 hours of work and it'll be finished ..

I had a chance to purchase a Kyosho Spitfire 4 weeks ago at our LHS.
They had it on a mark down sale for $240.00.
I was/am working on a Hangar 9 Spitfire and thought that I would wait a bit and get it next time.
Following week when I went there to buy it........gone.
Shuks.

Sorry Andreas.
I have been working on fitting the TF Spitfire wing center section to the outer panels. The fit is absolutely terrible. Have any of you had a similar problem? I have been at it for the past 2 hours dry fitting and i am to the point of trashing the project, it is that bad.

I am getting soo close to finishing my Spit.
I finally found a design for my mirror that I like and will upload a few pics when it is sanded and painted.
I am in the process of making some
Luftwaffe Balkenkreuze shot down decals for the side of the canopy. 5 should be enoughfor the start.
That's all that is left to do.
Most of the plane is taped off for the clear finish next weekend and hope that it
will work the way that I have invisioned it.

Thanks Andreas. Sounds like your Spitfire is just about ready to go, looking forward to seeing the picture of the mirror. I am going to let this set for a day or two and give it another try. After a few hours away from it, i am not ready to give up yet.

I had that same problem with the wings. I put then aside for 2 days and then went back to them. To me I think the jig was not a big help. But with time, they did go together. Keep the up dates coming. You are doing a great job!! I still love the blue pins!!!

I didn’t have any issues with joining the outer wing panels with the center section. I even changed the wing dihedral from the4 degree that is built into the plans to6 degree dihedral,like the full size Spitfire has.

Sonny, thanks for the information, at least now i know it isn't just me. I did think about pitching the jigs last evening. I need to confirm this but i do not believe the dihedral gage, the dihedral braces and the fixtures are all in sync with each other.
Roger, changing the dihedral angle means you probably made other changes to the braces and the fixtures (or eliminating them).
Another thing that i think will help is to break lose the root rib on each of the outer panels then re-glue them while fitting the center section.

A little update on the mirror build.
I did opt for the round mirror. It kind of grew on me.
I have never built anything this small from scratch,
but I like how it turned out.
The mirror lense still has the plastic protector film on it.
I will remove it after the install when the clear coat is done.

The Balkenkreuz decal is coming along as well.
I had to cut out each one due to the white slide decal.
Clear slide decal did not work, as the colors of the fuselage
drown out the Kreuz.
Therefore no short cuts by just leaving them all together as
one decal.

I may have to come and hang out at your workshop!!! You did a great job on the mirror build. You no longer have a H9 Spit, this is your baby!!! You will have some of the scale guys look at you. Keep the build up dates coming!!

That would be nice. Hangin' out by my 3x4 Ikea building table (workshop) with my dremel and CA glue.
Oh, did I mention, the table is situated right in front of my bar which is stocked with
some cool Kokanee.

Andreas, good looking mirror. That will be a nice detail on your Spitfire.
After working on the wing again last night i came to the conclusion that the fixtures are more of a nuisance than they are an aid. I ended up turning the wing right side up and supporting the tips until everything lined up with the center section. Much better now. The wing does appear to have a bit of wash out in it. Can any of you confirm that?

Good to hear that you got it figured out and are able to carry on.
Unfortunately I can't help with the washout question.
I would suspect that if everything else lines up to where it should be,
there might be washout.
Have read somewhere that washout helps with tip stall characteristics??
If that is true, then my Pheonix4 flight simulator Spit would need looots of washout.

Hopefully somone here has an answer for you.
That would be good to know.

Hi Steve,
I did the same thing you did and the wings and center section went together with no problem. My wings did come out with a little wash out. I hope that don't hurt the way it flies!! To me that jig did not work!!
Keep at it and keep us up-dated on the build!!

Thanks Sonny, actually it should help any tip stall characteristics that it would otherwise have without washout.

really good idea for the mirror. My wife and a few guys at the field always look at me funny when I talk about improvising. My H9 Spitfire has a gunsight made from buttons and the two sight glass supports are T-pins. I just have to paint it before I mount it.

the T-pins are a good idea as well.
I'll have to think about that one for the next Spit.
This one here is already very heavy with the add ons that I put on.
Last time I weight it, it came in at 9.8lbs (imperical).
Hangar 9's upper weight is supposed to be 9.5lbs.
Should I split hairs and ask, imperical or metric lbs?
Hope she is not too heavy.

Different types of airplanes have different stall characteristics. Most airplanes are designed so that the wings will stall progressively outward from the wing roots (where the wing attaches to the fuselage) to the wingtips. This is the result of designing the wings in a manner that the wingtips have less angle of incidence than the wing roots. Such a design feature causes the wingtips to have a smaller angle of attack than the wing roots during flight. FAA Airplane Flying Handbook: http://www.faa.gov/regulations_polic...uals/aircraft/

Basically the washout causes the wing tips to continue to create lift as the angle of the wing is increased in flight as in a climb or while raising the nose during a landing. Remember the wing is still moving forward as the angle increases, so the airflow over the top of the wing starts to become disrupted which causes a loss of lift. Since the wingtips are twisted down at the ends (washout) as the wing angle increases the tips start to create better lift thereby preventing the tips from stalling at the same time as the rest of the wing. The farther inboard you go from the tip the lift is lost first as the angle of attack increases. In Steve's Words

A stall occurs when the smooth airflow over the airplane’s wing is disrupted, and the lift degenerates rapidly. This is caused when the wing exceeds its critical angle of attack. This can occur at any airspeed, in any attitude, with any power setting.

I think I am pretty well done now.
The mirror is installed. I had a little bit of trouble to make it stick to the
canopy with the small surface area of the mirror stem.
CA was too brittle and broke/snapped at the slitest pressure.
Canopy glue not strong enough and takes too long to dry.
Believe it or not Goop worked a charme.
It bonds very well to plastic, dries clear and after hardening stays just a little bit flexible.
I was able to move the plane back and forth in the foam cradle when pulling on the mirror, that's how well
this stuff bonded. Wow.
