For the most part the heat trick worked. Only some of the edges required some CA applied with a thin strip of paper.
Thanks for the advice,

Hi Brothers,
More up dates on the Spit wings The tops are done!!! I am glad I did add the cloth. Now to let them cure overnight and seal the edges tomorrow. Like I said before, the fuse is going to be fun!!! One good tip if you use Pacer Z-Poxy finishing resin and you want to save your brushers for next time, put the brushers in isopropyl alcohol 91% and leave them in the alcohol over night. The next day just remove them than dry them off and you are ready to use them again!!

I still do that today when glassing airplanes. I keep my stuff in acetone (other thinners and cleaners will work also) and reuse, reuse, reuse

Hi Jet 22b
some very interesting documents on the below sites
http://www.spitfireperformance.com/
http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/sl-wade.html
Comparative Performance of Fighter Aircraft published 1946
By Sqdn. Ldr. T.S. Wade, D.F.C, A.F.C, R.A.F.V.R
This is the first article of a series by former O.C. Flying at the Air Fighter Development Unit in which he will discuss the flying characteristics of modern aircraft.
Comparing Spitfire XIV, Mustang III, Tempest V, Thunderbolt II and Meteor III
in summary
Speed First prize to the Meteor III
Climb First prize to the Spitfire XIV.
Ceiling First prize to the Spitfire XIV.
Range First prize to the Thunderbolt II.
Roll rate First prize will have to be shared by the Spitfire and Tempest, depending on the speed at which the roll is executed.
Acceleration First prize to the Spitfire XIV.
Dives First prize to the Meteor
Turning First prize to the Spitfire XIV.

Capstan,
Thanks for the links!!! Lots of good info!!! I still think the wings of the Spitfire came from the shape of the Sea Gull. When these bird are in the wind and not flapping, the wings look just like the wings on the spit!!!
Thanks, again for the links!!

Thanks to both of you for your great information. The top brass has already awarded our Ace Capstan five (5) stars for conspicuous gallantry above and beyond the call of duty for the above quoted post on the Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome) thread on this forum; and is considering other members of the Few for awards also. The above information also inspired research on a comparison between the F4U and the F6F reported on the Park Flyers & Backyard Flyers forum where a lot of advertising is being done for our Spitfire Brotherhood thread.
My Spit Mk IX continues to be fine tuned. Due to the hazards of flying just under destruction power when in "war combat emergency mode" (info on above mentioned Park Flyer forum) I've decided that my beautiful three bladed prop will only be for milk run missions. Today's mission is intended to find out if my F4U can equal or beat the Spitfire. If I should happen to burn up the motor, it will be replaced by a larger one that can do the job, assuming, of course the airframe can be saved more or less intact in any ensuing possible disaster. I'm betting the stock PZ F4U motor with that three bladed Messerschmitt prop will survive and that the Spitter will have a fun companion to enjoy on mild missions together with the "Whistling Death machine."
Breaking off now.
Out.

I finished installing the RCG 20 engine today. The engine and accessories added about 2.5 lbs making the final AUW 11 lbs even. The CG came out exactly where it is supposed to without any additional weight needed.
Since RCU is acting up again and you can't post pics, I added them to Photobucket.

The plane is a Kyosho ARF. I don't think it's still available for sale...I got it at a swap meet. The CG rig is called a "Vanessa" rig. Here is a link to a complete description...

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
The Vanessa rig lets your plane hang freely so that its CG always falls directly beneath the horizontal rod. The horizontal rod can rotate in the holder and as it rotates it moves the strings attached around the plane....you move the strings so that the plane's stabilizer is level (just like it is in flight). Once the plane is level, the plumb bob points directly to the CG of the plane.

Picture uploads are back and it uploaded very quickly. Hopefully it is fixed for a while. Thanks for information on the Vanessa CG device, i have seen that before but had forgotten.
C.O. and i took the plunge and ordered electric retracts from HK. Reports have been good, so it is a time will tell how they work out. Not a lot complete since the last update,,,,, honey do list is better shape though. There was a report earlier regarding the plan being incorrect with the location of the horizontal stabilizer. I agree with that, it needs to be set rearward approximately 1/4" from what is show on the plans. One would think Top Flite could at minimum add an addendum page to the kit explaining this issue.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
I put the RCG 20 engine on the test bench today and gave it its first run. I really couldn't be happier. I had to choke it a good bit the first start, but after that it restarted with no choke needed and usually on the first flip. After 8 ounces of gas through it, it was turning a 15x8 prop at 8500 rpm and idling down to 2200 rpm with no problem. I had read good things about this engine but also a few complaints too. I think I got a good one.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Looking good Steve.
Hm.. I have not built a Top Flite Spitty yet, but looking at their manual, it looks just like what you have now.
That is their picture in the Manual not from plans/drawings (if they come with the kit).
I guess your picture shows the correct distances??
I know what you mean by Honey Do List....
From last weeks run until now, I have drilled 1 hole for the fuel filler valve into my cowl and
reinstalled the fuel filter. Wow.... I got a lot done don't you think?
Probably will spend a good part of the next 3 days chipping 2" ice off of the drive way
that's going to melt sooner or later anyway.
Oh well, have to pay for not shoveling enough when it snowed and I built my Spitfire HA.
Andreas
Happy building & flying.

Please forgive me. I forgot to tell you about the stab location!! Like they say, when you hit the big 60, the first thing to go is your memory. Case in point, yesterday got all the way to my club field that is 35 miles from my house, and I get a phone call asking me did I forget a case. I said I pack everything and not missing anything!!! Well to make a long story short, the case that I receive the call on, had both of my transmitter in it!!![X(][X(] Talking about a short flying day!!![&o][&o]
I glad you saw that report and yes I agree that Top Flite should have add a addendum to the page kit!!
Again, please forgive me!!

The manual shows the tail sitting where it should. The plans do not. If you are building according to the drawing it would be easy to overlook and set the horizontal incorrectly. No problem Sonny, i understand completely.
When i am packing to go to the field for a flying session my wife always gives me the run down.
Did you load your fuse, wing, flight box, tool box, fuel and transmitter? It is a good thing....

Hey Brotherhood, after some pm's with Warbirdracer Brotherhood #1, we have decided to possibly make Spitfire Brotherhood caps available. They will look basically like the shirts in the picture below. With spring just around the corner now is the time to get them started. Will keep the cost as low as possible and determine that in the near future.
Please let me know if you have an interest.
