Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)

If somebody want to have training warbird or quarter scale warbird the seagull is the best choice. This ARF Spitfire is very light warbird if you use only the kit parts. For the better storage you can have two half stab and elevator. But itīs mean the servos in the tail. Now I see, that these servos are the biggest problem during balancing. Original tail wheel is not bad, but too heavy.
Wings really huge with high air profile and two halfs. Perfect and large access to the board equipment. No problem to use some electric, gas or glow engine.
Only extra parts I used are the fibreglass parts Iīve already appointed. No problem to make some more parts for the others.
Also added some details as tail strut and antenna mast, cockpit parts, flaps gear bay.
Hereīs the link for my project. There you can see uncovered fuselage, wing, stabilizer, rudder...

Here are some pictures from Duxford museum. I took some pictures of the life vest, googles and leather helmet, for those, who wants to paint his scale pilot. Comparison with my scale pilot.

E-flite Spitfire Mk XIV - THE GUARDIAN of GREAT Britain
Tally-Ho, Spitfire Brotherhood,
Prekin and I both have a "last project" (?) Spitfire to talk about. In my case at least there may someday be yet another "last project Spitfire," especially if I move into a larger house that would have enough extra space for hanger use. My Eflite Mk XIV Spit is the greatest airplane "eye candy" I have ever owned. Although in pure stock form the Mk XIV looks really rakish with its stock 5 blade prop, final experiments have demonstrated that a slightly modified MASTER AIRSCREW 13 X 6 three blade prop with rounded tips looks and performs beautifully.
Final test flight was performed in 91 degrees F, 22 MPH plus wind at 2500 feet Density Altitude conditions and I couldn't be more happy with it.
Britain's best buzz bomb beating warplane is arguably the most beautiful "form follows function" fighter plane in history. The brute power of the Griffon engine made this machine the most desirable for catching and destroying the infamous V-1 flying bombs and for use in short range dog fighting activity.
My model Mk XIV is so impressive that it is being enjoyed as a piece of art and will not be flown until after I show it off to my modeling buddies next week. Everything works perfectly including that impressive five blade prop that provides surprisingly high thrust for such a low diameter prop. I've ordered spare stock props for low altitude flying and might modify one of my spare spinners to enjoy superior high altitude performance with my nice looking larger diameter three blade props. (I was having PC problems on Park Flyers forum where this was originally posted.)
So, aim high, fly, fight, win!
Out.

I have a problem with robart retracts variable rate valves 167VR . Out of 10 valves I have only had one that worked and I don)t know for how long. When I called them on it I got no where .By the time I would send it in they would charge for an inspection then the cost to repair it plus shipping .That cost more then the valve even when I told them they were brand new. This really ticks me off. Has anyone had this kind of a problem?

Yes I have had problems with the Robart valves. The seals have a tendency to bypass and leak air until they have been cycled a few times. Personally I have switched to the BVM air valve. They don't have a variable rate but with a set of inline restrictors you get the same affect. The BVM valves also vent the air differently so when one retract comes down before the other it doesn't put the back side of the cylinder in a vacuum which makes the first retract bounce back up slightly until the pressure builds up. The only other way to stop that is to put an air valve on each main retract.

if you want to fix it go to the local autoparts store and buy ac lube it comes in a can that screws into the std ac recharge hose. I hook the hose up and drain enough to cover the bottom of a paper Dixie cup. this oil has a gas in it that will recondition (soften) the 0-rings. the gas makes the oil bubble like soda. once the oil stops bubbling the reconditioner is gone. so while it is bubbling paint everything with it, once convinced you have everything painted work it for 5 or 10 minutes then set it down for the night.
next day hook it up and see what leaks, investigate as to which parts did not get enough of the reconditioning oil and coat that area well. eventually all the leaks will go away.
this oil softens and expands the O-rings. if left around the O-rings to long it will turn them to mush so it is important to let the gas escape after the overnight. by the same token the gas escapes even the can it came in once the seal is broken (I have only been able to get a opened can for maybe a week, usually only a day or two). so over night it is important to trap it in, then you want it out and everything oiled well. once the gas is gone the oil left is the best stuff for air retracts.
I avoid robart retracts with a passion! infact that is the only reason I do not have a flop tite focke wulf cause the retract setup is robart only. if I want to make things retract slow I use a spring air valve then cover the air tube with aluminum tubing then put a wheel collar over that. the aluminum sleeve will prevent the set screw from cutting the tubing for a while. remember the speed is controlled by how fast the air exits. so you need to adjust the exit line not the charge line.
hope this helps

BHi Bill,It's been a while since I've seen a member list with assigned numbers, and my PC is acting up badly enough that I can't search for the list at the moment. So, If you would like to have a member number you might search out the last member list and assign yourself the next consecutive number assuming, of course, that such a presumptuous action would be acceptable to the Brotherhood.I hope it is not too late for you to join. I'm sure we will be told if it is. Once I can get past the hackers that have been bad about strafing me with malware I hope to be able to enjoy Spitfires like they were surely intended to be enjoyed!

A Brotherhood member might be able to help here. I tried to scroll back far enough to find it but as I said earlier my PC is performing very badly at the moment so I must break off the attack now.
Out.

Hi all. Yesterday Iīve passed maiden of my last project: Seagull Spitfire 30 cc remake. For this remake I use my parts: fibreglass spinner, cowl, chin scoop, cannon blisters and cast resin exhaust set.
She is still in one piece after the maiden, but the landing gear pins are so weak. It wasnīt my best landing, but no so hard. It seems she still has too heavy tail.

Anyone building a Phoenix 30cc Spit? Thoughts in the quality? Tower sold out in 2 days before I could pull the trigger and now have to wait till al least mid Nov.

Hello Spitfire pilots and builders. I have been in the process building my TopFlite Mk IX since Oct '15. This is my first balsa scratch build and could use the in site of those that have gone before me and learn from your experience. Also I would like to join the brotherhood too.

Hi hawms1, welcome to the brotherhood
The TF Spit is not exactly a scratch build, its a popular kit with very good instructions and LOTS of online reference information. Just do a search in Warbirds section and you'll see what I mean
Enjoy the build
