Thank you Spitfire Brotherhood. Pictures and comments are appreciated more than you might think. My Mk XIV Spit has been successfully modified to not only continue to look great and land normally under good conditions but now can be safely hand launched and belly landed on areas where landing gear will not work well. It works as well in the promotion of modeling as my smaller "park flyer fighters" do in smaller park size areas.
The vulnerable scoops are protected with carbon fiber reinforced thin aluminum skids that don't detract from the appearance of those huge radiators under the wing. The front scoop is carbon fiber reinforced with "Velcro" pads to allow easy and effective hand launching missions. My Spit will be a perfect partner with my also modified "Blondie P-51" that provides great "ultimate WWII dog fighter plane" history/science modeling promoting teaching aids.
Please keep up the good work of keeping the Spitfire alive.

Hi all,
I have purchased a Top RC Spitfire and have a problem locating the right spinner size for it. The manual says 4.25" so I ordered a spinner from Prekin, but that is too large by a few mm. Tower specs list 4" . Any one out there with this model can shed a light?

Thanks, w1nd6urfa, but that spinner is 110mm (4.3") which is larger than what i currently have. did you mean this one? https://www.lindinger.at/en/airplanes/gasglow-powerplants/spinners/topmodel-spinner-100-119mm-gfk-m.aluplatte-mbl or maybe the 105mm?

Raphael, if you want some 105mm spiiner for the Spitfire I´m going to make this size for anoother guy who is flying Spitfire. Also will be available pre-cut for 2 and 3 blades prop.

Here are a couple pictures of my TopFlite ARF Spit that after 227 or so flights, I brought in for some maintenance and glass, the Engine is giving me fits and will be getting another carb in the next day or two. Graphics are from Callie's Graphics. I got in a couple of flights since the paint and glass, this added a couple of pounds and I need to move the cg a tad further forward. The lesson I learned here is to balance the plane before you start work on it so you know exactly where to cg it once you are done.

Hi everyone. I'm currently building the comp arf spitfire, I have built about 20 comp arf planes and recently have built four planes from air world, so was glad to be building from composite arf again..... until I got to the wing, this is my third day on the wing now and am getting annoyed with the amount I have to carve away just to fit the retracts that were supplied from composite arf, firstly to get the retract body in the piston hits the wing block inside, once it's in and I have all the blind nuts fitted and the body sits lovely I can't get the leg to line up with the wheel well, the wheel well is so far out that eventually after cutting and carving I got the wheels to go in but if I were to put the covers, when the legs are out, they would be way to far fwd and would look stupid. The trouble is I have another spitfire build after this one.
Has anyone else had the same problem? And do I have to look fwd to the same crap on the next one?

Don't use blind nuts for the gear, just use sheet metal screws. That way if you have to add wood or change the angle it is much easier to do. First I would just use two screws per retract until you get them fitting right. If the holes are pre drilled I would fill them with dowel and epoxy. As far as that particular plane, sorry I have to built one. Pictures would be nice though.

I just founbd this thread thanks to Skylark's complete list of brotherhoods, Clubs, etc. on RCU. I have been toying with the idea of purchasing a Spitfire kit for some time. Since you guys are died in the wool Spitfire aficionados I thought I would ask a some what loaded question, what Spitfire kit in 1/7th would you recommend and why? I am open to a full kit as well as a short kit and plans.

Finally finished the assembly of my ESM 50cc Spitfire, only need to do the break-in of the DLE 55RA and it will be ready for the maiden. Total weight is exactly 29lbs before addition of fuel; the CG is set at 142mm compared with ESM recommendation of 153mm.

I used the 25% - 30% MAC rule to decide where to place the CG for the maiden. There were two visitor at our wardbird fun fly last summer each had the ESM 50cc Spitfire. The one that flew very nicely had the CG at 137mm, the one that flew erratically, very pitch sensitive was at ESM's recommended CG 153mm. I talked to the owner and he was not very happy with the way the Spitfire flew. I asked him if he checked the CG position using the MAC rule, his reply was, "what is MAC" ! On this ESM Spitfire, 127mm CG is at 25% MAC, while 153mm CG is at 30% MAC!

Hoping for some help here as my sources vary. When did the Spitfire go from fabric covered ailerons to all-metal ailerons? If it was in the middle of the MK.I run, does anyone know when?
