RE: olive drab for p-47
The Olive Drab on my P47 was matched from the Military Aircraft Color Guide which Frank Tiano had made up and sold a few years back. Im not contending it is perfect or correct but if you like how it looks and want a formual to have it mixed in Behr Exterior Latex I will send you a picture of the can and of the formula lable on top of the can. The picture in the air is how it came out of the gun before weathering etc. The picture in the trailer bunk is with a flash and brightens the actual color a bit. The burnished look and weathering is just the paint itself after being steel wooled.

I matched colors as a profession, for over 30 years. When I needed RLM colors for my Stuka, I went with Warbird Colors.
Comparing the WBC, to my certified RLM color chart, I found the WBC to be an excellent match.
I found no spec for the whitewash used for Winter camo, on German planes. I used the RLM white (can't remember the spec number) used for the white markings.

Tom,
I'll never get sick of seeing your beautiful Stuka....it has to be one of the best ever done...
Seriously....WOW!
As far as paints go...I just use Model Masters.....but Tamiya has a nice rattle can of OD green, but god it does stink! As much as I am pleased with the Model Masters paints, I will use the Tamiya OD green on my 80" Jug.

I understand there is a loyal group that doesn't mind going to the big box stores, for the small amount of material your buying it doesn't hurt to get the best you can buy,my personal brand favorites are Benjamin Moore,Sherwin Williams,Dunn Edwards, there all quality materials and spray well through a gun

OK here goes ... I know that painting duck decoys is not the csame as planes but ... I'm trying to fool mother nature .. So I took a one of my mounted ducks to HD for a paint match . kinda weird walking around with a stuffed duck but any way the paint guy at HD did a excellent job on the match . I bought those small sample cans .T hese paint work well when thinned down for spraying .D on't be afraid to t ry. But I did make sure I went to the same guy evry time

Thanks for the compliments, guys.
Working in the paint manufacturing business provided me with an eye for things like color and gloss. I really feel that WBC, Model Masters and Tamiya are the best options when painting our warbirds.
Something that may interest some of you; A friend of mine sprayed his Fiesler Storch with the oil based Model Masters. He added an automotive hardener to his paint. The belief is that the paint is now fuel resistant to 15%. That is what his testing revealed.

Here is another link to the many colors of OD: http://www.rcmf.co.uk/4um/index.php?topic=53296.0
It is talking about B-17, but has some great references to the ANA and FS colors used over the years. Just FYI, Reply No. 13 on the link has some color JPGs that show the different green to brown changes.
