Default What Color Grey?

I am finishing up framing my TF P-47 and in anticipation of the painting process, I would like to order my paint from Warbird Colors. Does anyone out there know what grey was used on the bottom?

Thanks!

It's not grey its sky. The 78th repainted their planes with RAF colors, Dark green and sky unders. I have a good library of info on the 78th.

That's the confusing part to me BobH, This plane was painted Olive drab unlike the rest of the 78th.

Note for Modelers: Unlike most of the 78th FG's repainted P-47's this particular one was painted in olive drab and not the medium green associated with the unit.

Gary, I'm not sure I believe it was painted OD. I have Garry L. Fry's book Eagles of Duxford, The 78th Fighter Groupe in WWII. There is only one mention of Eaton's plane. This concerns the artwork. The picture is of his wife done in 8AAF tration of red and yellow.

I would find it curious to understand why the plane would have differed from all the rest? Doesn't make sense. It's not like it was an older razor back but a newer bubble top. Those planes arrived in natural alu and were painted in theater.

If indeed the plane was OD and gray then I would guess that it's neutral gray.

I don't know how reliable that littlefriends website is either. That is the only mention that I could find that says it was OD.
I would like for the paint to be correct though.

I think you can use the RAF colors and be pretty confident in your choice

If you intend to compete, just make certain your specific model matches your documentation. Remember though, photos and artwork (profiles) are usually the LEAST accurate sources of the actual colors. BUT, if an inaccurate color scheme depicted in a painting is the only thing you use in your documentation package, it's what the judges must use when scoring your entry. A written description with actual color chips, are the most reliable and least "challengeable". I personally feel that, in serious competition, the documentation packages submitted should be scored also. They frequently appear like rushed afterthoughts rather than having been collected before the model was even built.
