Dawn Patrol over Gilman Springs WW1 2012 (lots of cool pics)
Well, the weekend is over and i must say I still feel the sun burn on the top of my head, especially on my bold spot. I spent alot of time on Saturday standing out in the sun getting a pot full of pictures and video to share of the WW1 Dawn Patrol fly-in at Gilman Springs RC Club. I forgot to take a hat and i'm regretting it now. I have over 400 pictures and alot of video time. I am a pretty newbie to editing video so i'll work the in as i can. So without further ado here are the some of the pictures i took and more will follow as i get time to post them.

Mel Santmyers brought this excellent large scale plane. Here he is prepping it for flight.
He was having some engine problems so some friends came over to help out.
They worked on it for along time but it still wouldn't run right. Sometimes things just don't work out. Better to set it aside than risk a major engine problem in the air. It's a wonderful looking plane and i would hate to see something bad happen to it. Maybe next year it will show it's gracefulness in the air. Here are a few more of it.
So not being the WW1 expert can some one name this plane for me?

Albatross DV, colours are Richtofens'. No strut brace from the forward wing (interplane) strut to leading edge, so it's not a DVa.

Albatros DV, judging by the color scheme. The auxillary strut is a bit of a red herring. One can find DVas, DVs and even DIIIs with (and without) the strut. The easiest way the tell the difference between the DV and DVA is the aileron control cables.
Thanks for the pix!

Great pictures, Darrell. I know there were a lot of pictures being taken and was hoping to find some of them posted online. I forgot my camera other than my cell phone camera and you know those only barely verify that you were there. Ya can't see anything.
Looking forward to seeing ALL of the rest of them. Thank you for sharing.

Here is a plane that needs no introduction.......................The DR1. Whoops i guess that was an introduction. It is probably the most widely recognized plane of World War 1. The famous Red Baron made the plane legendary. The first pictures are Duane Neese's fine example of what a DR1 should look like.

Here's another fine DR-1 whose owners name i did not get. I'm really going to have to get an assistant to help with all the paper work. If anyone knows who the pilot/builder/owner is please post it.
