Default sealing up the top of a Robart air tank?

I've been chasing an air leak in my TF giant scale P-47 and I finally found the problem. The air tank leaks where the brass nipple goes into the top of the tank. Any suggestions on how I can seal this up? Can I heat it up and flow some solder in there? It was a real pain to get the tank out of the plane and I am looking for a permanent solution!

I've had those leak at the very same place. I have a few spares around and do what Peter recommends. Dan.

Have you asked Robart to replace the tank?

Convert them to electric and never worry about an air leak again, Oh, and forget about carrying support equipment to the field.

If the metals are different than solder on the brass nipple will not fix the leak. I suspect a puddle of epoxy might but I would replace the tank. Done right the first time is not doing it again and again.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to replace the tank because when I tried to solder, the torch melted some kind of plastic or rubber seal that is part of the top! LOL. Oops. As far as going electric is concerned I am very interested in the announcement from Robart that they will be releasing electric conversion kits for their retracts.

I realize the original poster is replacing the tank, but I am curious if anyone has ever tried JB weld to fix this particular problem?

I fixed one with an epoxy not well known outside of the aviation industry.PR1422 fuel tank sealant from the 1 to 1 scale airplanes. It is some what runny when first mixed. It WILL destroy anything you don't want it touch, clothes, paint, throw them away.On skin, it stays for 5days or more. don't rub your nose. Jb weld might do it however only within the first minute or so as will flow around the part. $.02
