Thanks but the EME is about the weight of the DLE 55 from what I can see from the specs.

So thats why I said you may still need to add nose weight.
I have the Saito FG60 with the Keleo exhaust ring. I put the ignition and its batteries toward the front but not in front of the wing.
With that engine it ballances fine.
Thanks for your input...

Well, at least the 2 pounds of ballast should tell something!

Yes and no... I guess my question is just too open for different variables like battery size used on ignition and rx, plus wheel type used as any plane would. I should have really thought about that prior to even posting such an open ended question. So it is hard to give me what I want unless the person will be using simular weighted items like a 2000mah nimh Battery for ignition, 4200mah nimh for the rx and a 2000 mah nimh for the retract system with the factory main wheels and a robart tail retract and similar weighted prop.

example: I had guys tell me I would need to add weight to my P-40 with a DLE 55 but with the same items above the plane balanced perfect with everything mentioned above in the factory locations with full retract setup and xoar prop.

sorry guys just wanted to clear things up so you are not thinking I am trying to be a butt.

Thanks again for your inputs...

I'm excited as Santa will bring mine so I plan on learning as much as I can from all of you. I'm going all electric and hope to have her flying in a few months. First up will be setting up the robarts and figuring out the gear doors by searching here.

Planning on rimfire 65cc and all the gear. From what I’m seeing the tail wheel is a bit of a challenge. If anyone knows of more challenges and pitfalls I need to be aware of I’m all ears. Thanks!

I have a TF P-40 GS with the same tail wheel setup as the Corsair. What challenge are you seeing with the tail wheel?

Haven’t tackled that yet. Still wrapping my brain around the gear doors. I plan to get to that next as soon as Santa let’s me open the rest of the box. I snagged the full wing section before handing it over.

Ordered the Robart Tailwheel to go with the mains. I plan to use the set up I saw in here a few posts back for the tail wheel....I hope. I'm going with linear servos I ordered from HK (slow boat from China). Ordered the Rimfire 65CC and will turn a Beila 22x10x3 Corsair Prop. Hope most are still flying their planes.

The Rimfire 65CC just came in. Wow what a beast! Should definitely help the CG along with 2x 6S batts at the firewall! Has anyone seen this in action? I know a guy over on the Hobbysqawk thread is putting together an ECM Corsair in the same size.

Anyone using the Robart 150 instead of the Robart 148?

Hi,

I think the challenge is with the tail doors, and not the retract unit itself. On the P-40, there are no doors to mess with.

Well, I got to the tail wheel and installed with some mods to try and move it so it's higher off the ground. Looking at the doors I'm not sure if I'l be able to replicate the real version without significant mods. I may try to find some middle ground. If anyone has a solution I'd appreciate it.

I used a hollow plastic tube of the appropriate diameter to extend the tailwheel height about 1/2 inch. Made a visible difference and got the tail piece out of the grass.

You can use ball links and adapt them on the retract itself. They connect the doors directly to the retract just like in Chads post. The P-51 the Corsair and other planes share the same concept with linkages connected to the retract and the door. With your length mod you should still be able to do this. It just comes down to timing. Where the linkage is placed on the door relative to the retract. The pivot locations and linkage length will need to be experimented with until you find the right length and position.
Ive done this on both TF P-51 and Corsair in the same way plus I lengthened the Corsair retract too.
The full scale Corsair tail gear doors pivot out about 180 degrees so keep that in mind.

Hi,

I'm just about ready to maiden the one I bought back in 2014! The cowl-flaps work, too.....

Chris,
Thanks. I saw that and will try to replicate. Right now I'm in the final touches of the main gear doors. Tried HK linear servos but after waiting a month for them to come in only to find out they're too darn big!

Those cowl flaps, btw, were a pain to build BUT with my temp sensor on, the degrees drop fast when you open them.

Shaun,

Is it possible to have your radio operate the cowl flaps automatically when the temp sensor detects a rise or drop in engine temps?

My bad Shaun. I should've known that there was more to the story.
