True. I'm thinking just lightly sanding over them exposing them but the possibility of just removing them is still there. So much went into installing them...[&o] These rivits are great but would be best for an application that didn't use flush rivits..unless you didn't care.
They're almost flush now so being that this isn't going to any scale masters, I may just paint over them and call it good. [:-]
When it's all riveted, I'll sit down after case of beer and look at it..when I come too, we'll see what happened..lol

I have both SisT FW's and the surface work is great no doubt but its over done in my opinion. If you scale up the wrinkles and depth of the rivets it would make a very rough aircraft. The production tolerances for flush rivets in full scale is around +/-0.02in on the outside surface. Compared to a 1/5 model this should be basically in-perceivable if one is trying to be "scale".
This is the problem I have with most contest models.
I keep a collection of hundreds of photos of aircraft surfaces, rivets and details. Very few are glamor shots. I shoot the photos myself or search for hours online to find them. Then there are books and magazines I keep just on specific planes.
The best way to get an idea of what to spend time on and what to let slide is to stand a certain distance away from the subject in full scale. If you can see the detail or feature from 20 feet away then its worth duplicating it on your 1/5 model. The same detail should be seen at 4ft away. Pick a distance to the full scale plane then model what you see and keep it consistent throughout the whole project according to the scale of the plane your working on. So in other words scale your perspective as well as the model. You dont change in scale but the plane does.
Have you ever seen plastic model kits that are really weathered and look dramatic? Its kind of the same thing, the modeler has gone too far and it looks cool to the eye perhaps but its not accurate. So you have to decide if a project is scale or just looks scale but the two are not the same.
Anyway thats how I approach projects. All of these planes look cool, lets see more flying vids and photos!

To each his own! All of that nonsense is a matter of personal preferences especially when it comes to detailing. I've always said†if you don't like the way something is done, do it better yourself or don't complain"...My other statement, and no disrespect is.."who cares"... It’s a model..and the only perfect FW190 are the real ones…
Now with that said, shall we move forward

Here's how I veiw our models. They are actors on a stage.. Like grease paint (worn on the stage) sometimes our models are over done.. for a purpose. It becomes more about how it looks for what it is.. rather than exact fidelty to the full scale with respect to every surface, every wrinkle etc. There are those who will agree with me and others that will disagree. I've been modeling for over 45 years and I'm still learning.. so.. have fun.. thats my suggestion.

Absolutely right Bob! Sometimes when you scale down, you must overdo to focus the eye. I do agree it is a fine line between overdone and subtle. Personally I think the Sist from 4 foot nails it pretty close, if you want to "see" detail popping. Otherwise it just becomes another well painted model....with a bit of weathering and some detail.

What is the diameter of the 1/5 scale FW190 spinner?
What is the diameter of the 1/5 scale FW190 spinner?
One choice is availible in 20" version W/adjustable pitch. It has a small hub. The Zinger uses a 3 1/2" hub to secure wood blades & I would go to 24" for that option idf it would fit in the spinner.

I can run inexpensive replaceable wood blades for a 3 blade prop.
Anybody know what the diameter is of the full scale prop?
