Heya Robart-Joe
How does a guy from Australia like me going about ordering some Robart retracts to suit the TF FW190?
When I go to the Robart site for either electric or air retracts, it tells me that they are "Exclusive through Great Planes".
And when I go to the Great Planes site, there's nothing listed

The electric trunion is now CNC machined and uses set screws instead of the slit tube and clamp screw. These have offered much higher precision. As we use up stock of the standard pneumatic trunion, this electric trunion (double pins and set screws) will be used in both gear.

Appreciate the reply; I have a brand new 'Pneumatic' set, still in the box, unused, havn't started building my FW190, I received them from Tower Hobbies on Aug 28; I would assume has the older set up, any way to trade these in for an upgraded version or the parts needed to upgrade, or send them in for an upgrade, before I actual use them and incurr any problems?
Thank You.
Thank You.
Since Robart does not answer questions here, regarding this;
http://www.robart.com/contact-us
I see no other option but to try to order these parts via a mail to [email protected]. I have tried that now.
I have the pneumatic gear. They hold the air VERY well, Just like the ones I have for the ESM Corsair.
So, I think they will be a success, given I can get the upgrade for mechanical strength.
I know, from Tally Ho's experience that doing a turn with the plane in even the slightest's of speeds, those parts will bendt. Everyone that has owned a Fw-190 knows that the stress in the upper area is very much higher than for other gears. Because of the Focke Wulfs long legs.
Guarantied. I saw his parts myself on warbird-weekend in Trondheim.
If I am lucky, I wont have to make any turns at the end of the rollout, but, nevertheless, I know I will, sooner or later.
Then my plane is grounded. For months on end. Extremely annoying.
It is ready for maiden now, here is testing of engine, Saito FG-57;

The baffling seems to work well; I measured a temperature of 75 degrees Celcius at the top of the cylinders.
Max rpm on a Menz 22x10 was 6200

I am green with envy on your FG84. Looking forward to mine. Please comment when you can on how performs
on a slightly different note. Has anyone noticed the amount of flex the wing has near the landing gear area? If I lift the plane by the tips I can see a noticeable flex right above that area

But are you using two housings for each assembly in order to allow both pins to share the load?
As in my earlier posts.

Kwik that FG-57 is pretty sweet,it probably didn't need any mods to fit also right?I'm was thinking about an FG-84 but you cant even get one over here...I really cant figure out why.

Steve... It's because the Universe is mad at me... Karma is a b1tch! I said some mean things early this year about a Saito twin that I seized and now I'm paying for it!!! Please, lord, let my dogma run over their karma!!!

Yes, it fit right in. Very happy with everything so far. A bit worried about the ARF'ish horns on the flaps, the elevators and ailerons on such a big plane, but they will have to do, and we will see.....

Has anybody else had a problem installing the cowl? I mounted the cowl ring to the cowl per in the instructions but now I am not able to start any of the screws in the blind nuts. The problem is that the cowl lip gets in the way so I cannot start the screws because they are all going in at an angle. I have been messing with the screws for about an hour and cannot start any of them.

I had had a similar issue due glueing the cowl on with two corners bolted in. Widen the holes on the cowl ring and put washers on the screw. Make sure you thread the screws straight or those blind nuts are wasted. Good luck!

...speaking of retracts...
Are there any plans out there for a decent set of 'scalies' to suit the TF FW190?
I can machine something up - if I had some plans to work from.
The other alternative it to try and reverse-engineer from pics - something a dedicated scale-buff would probably have no problems doing. But I'm a lazy bugger when it comes to that.
With a mill, and a lathe... and some plans to work from, I'd love to have a crack at doing some home-brews that would drop right in

Ya I took one look at what they said to do and said no way. Further up in this thread you will find my mod. It's super easy and works like a champ. I made 2 brackets and bolted the cowling on through the hatch and a 3 bolt through the bottom to the fire wall

I maidened the TF 190 today, and it was a great experience.
The Saito FG-57 seems to be made for this plane. A great combination.

The plane is in my oppinion a very good flier, and the Robarts held up well. They held the airpressure for many days.
Very happy with the plane.
Regarding deflections, the only place I did'nt follow the manual was for the flaps.
They extend 55 degrees on mine.

In case someone is interested in how I did the baffling, here is how;
( There are many ways to do it, of course, and this just happens to be mine.)
First I made these two parts;
